Ultramodern 5th Edition Living Campaign - Welcome to the fun! We are currently looking for additional Game Masters, World Builders, and Players! Gritty Science Fiction | Anime Themes | Lovecraftian Horrors | Mecha | Cybernetics | 18+ | Gene Modification What is Infinite Darkness... Infinite Darkness is a world set in the far future, where mankind has spread to the stars via a combination of its own ingenuity and piggybacking upon alien technology -- both that which has been traded for and that which has been discovered and is still being understood. With a gameworld containing a myriad of systems with an endless variety of planets, there's no one single thing that sessions and campaigns tend to involve, but in general you can expect to be exploring things from ancient ruins to planet-wide sprawls, struggling against the ever-present stifling grip of corporations that span across multiple systems or working in the shadows for them, working with sentient alien life or fleeing from hybridised experiments made with it, and even conducting trade missions or being involved with the Galactic Defense Force. You will need a team with a diverse skill set in order to survive -- being able to fire a gun is well and good, but you need more than just broad shoulders and a big gun. Your team needs technicians to investigate ancient, forgotten technology; it needs engineers to rig lifts or reprogram robots in subterranean complexes you're breaking into; it needs pilots to hijack that ship off the moon you're being pursued across; it needs infiltration agents to contort through ducts and slip locks; it needs slick, suited fast-talkers to broker deals with the powerful and insinuate their way into secure locations; it needs medics to patch up claw-rent limbs and laser burns; it needs biologists to diagnose the strange illness your away team comes back with upon exploring a new planet... and much, much more. Combat will be a part of what you do, but it will be far from all you do and remember that just because you can fight something, doesn't mean there's even a chance that you might win -- discretion is the better part of valor, because if there's one universal truth about the future, it's this: life is cheap. What is a 'Living Campaign'? Living campaigns are a shared campaign setting with a codified set of rules for the campaign that govern how to build and advance characters as well as how the campaign will handle rules elements of the setting. Campaign staff create, distribute, and manage new adventures in that campaign setting, and quite often administer a player database and promote various products. A living campaign lets players build and advance characters, develop their personalities, and forge relationships. Living campaign games are run at conventions, game days and other gatherings. The rules for character tracking allow a player to take their PC they created for the campaign to any of these meetings and play it in the adventures offered. In this instance, the IDLC or Infinite Darkness Living Campaign is an online living campaign centered on using the programs Discord & Roll20.net to create a living, breathing world where multiple game masters and players can come together to build a shared universe. Players can create characters and take them to multiple games to go on different adventures or explore dark derelict ships as they present themselves. Always keep in mind however that actions have consequences and those consequences can affect the world around you! What is Ultramodern 5th Edition? Ultramodern 5th Edition is a book created by 'Dias Ex Machina Games'. I will provide the book's brief description below. The mission of U5 is to present 5th EDITION rules for use in non-fantasy settings. These include pre-modern settings, contemporary settings, and those that are far-flung fantastic and futuristic. U5 presents modern and science fiction rules in a game usually reserved for fantasy. There is no established setting in U5. Custom classes. Custom weapons. Custom rules. What sort of players are you looking for? You agree with the HOUSE RULES that we're using. You want a sandbox role-playing game where player action and games are driven by roleplay and choices. You're okay with change. We're often adding in new class archetypes, races, maps, lore and other information! Sometimes this means your character might see retroactive changes to abilities or scores. We're always balancing/tweaking our game! The world doesn't adhere to 'levels'; you may very well find yourself facing down a well-armed ganger group, just because you're level 1 doesn't mean they're going to scale to you so that they become a proper challenge. It's up to the players to decide when they want to run. You're okay with guns, psionics, gun-fu, mechs, anime tropes, Lovecraftian horrors, and gritty sci-fi. You're okay with dying while playing the game. Combat is deadly. You're okay with new class archetypes and playing as a human. If you want to help us create the world while we play, the timeline and historical events of this setting are left intentionally vague. I'm looking for the players to help take part in this settings creation as we play. If you're okay with using VOICE chat and Discord. You're an adult who is okay with crude language being used at the gaming table and a little bit of OOC banter while we play. You're looking for a fun, nonserious gaming experience where the rule of cool is king. You're looking for traditional 5E combat with a twist, it's a little more cinematic and free-flowing. You play as the heroes, you're a cut above the rest. That doesn't mean you won't end up dead. If you feel that role-playing your character, exploring the world, figuring out mysteries and seeking out lost treasures and knowledge is just as fun as getting into cinematic anime-like combat sessions. Alternate Experience Points System that rewards tactical prowess and completing goals as a group. Training and inventory management as well. Meta-Game, and I'm not talking about using knowledge outside of the game to further your goals within. I'm talking about features like 'Inspiration' that has no other point of being in the game other than because it's a fun mechanic and a way to reward the players for playing their characters well. We've gone a step further and have created a number of achievements, land ownership, and a few other systems that you're welcome to take part in but it's totally fine if you don't. We do our best to put in as much effort as we can to make the campaign interesting and fun for everyone involved. If you plan on joining us, please come in with an open mind and be prepared to contribute to a massive undertaking! World building is exciting and it's a core part of what we do. XP rewards and bonuses are given to players who contribute. We use a number of house rules in our game to create a version of 5th Edition that we think is fun. There are other systems out there that might better replicate what we're going for, but that doesn't matter to us. We're playing the game we want to play. If you think you'd like to play with us too, please drop a message below! INTERESTED IN PLAYING? Please give a general concept of the sort of character you might like to play in the setting. Are you okay with using voice/text to roleplay outside of sessions from time to time? Are you okay with contributing to world building? Let me know what sort of previous experiences you have playing D&D. New players are welcome!
