[LFP] [SR5] Older gaming group looking for one or two extra players

Hello!   We are a group that has been together for well over a year now, playing two campaigns of Shadowrun 5th edition. With RL causing some issues for two of our members, we have decided to look for others to join us. We aim to play weekly, but this doesn't always work out, of course. Still, that's our goal, and if you are interested in joining one or both of the campaigns, you're expected to aim to be there every week. By and large, we are a mature, international group. Although not all of us are native English speakers, we are comfortable enough at it to use it for our games, so that would extend as well to any new people interested in joining our ensemble. Likewise, we prefer people who have seen some of the ups and downs of life. Although a strict age limit doesn't seem beneficial, we'd like you to be settled in life sufficiently to be able to adhere to a schedule you sign up for. Of course, work and health can throw spanners in the works - it happens to all of us - but let's at least hope for some consistency! It shouldn't need emphasizing, but respect for diversity is expected, and appreciation for the things that make all of us unique and often interesting is a good thing. Gaming should be a time of comfort and shared creativity, not angst and fearfulness. Rest assured that among us, everyone has a voice. The two campaigns we play are on Friday night (19:30 EST) and on Sunday afternoon (1pm EST). In both cases, these are campaigns with longer-running plots and relatively little episodic "single session heists" going on. The Friday game is based out of Seattle in 2087, and the runners consist of: Gasboy (GM), Bester (male human; adept and martial artist), Bonnie (female human; biker and shaman, and sometimes face), Zen (male dwarf; surgeon, sniper and academic), Rustler (npc, male human; ex-paratrooper and our electronics expert; Bonnie's boyfriend). Zen is on hiatus, since RL is conspiring to keep him from attending until the start of the new year. The Sunday game was based out of the Athabascan Council, but is currently in transit to somewhere in Europe - likely the AGS. It's set in the year 2069 with a slightly changed recent timeline compared to the default events of SR. It has myself as GM, with Blake (male human rigger and aspiring decker), Mr. Purple (male human adept and gun bunny) and Gjaller (male human Norse magician). Gjaller, being the same player as Zen, is likewise unable to attend much for a few months. Both campaigns have a variety of recurring NPCs, some of them more typically along the lines of Johnsons and fixers than others. It's worth noting that both Gasboy and myself are rooted in older editions of the game, and references to adventures of the FASA days, or even Earthdawn, aren't rare. It is, of course, not necessary to be familiar with any of that to enjoy the game, but having an interest in plot and backstory is likely a good thing. :) Feel free to contact me for any further information. It's probable that any likely candidates will be invited to our Discord server to get to know the rest of the people involved, before we make any decisions.
Hello! I'd be new to playing Shadowrun, but the cyber setting and group diversity that you mentioned above are both huge draws for me. I've been wanting to expand outside of 5e DND after listening to some podcasts featuring other TTRPGs, and as long as you don't mind coaching a newbie a bit during the first few sessions (I'll of course do some research on my own on the rules outside of the games), I would love to join either of your campaigns.  If you'd like to know more about me personally, I'd be happy to message you and give you more info, or you can feel free to message me. I'm not sure what you use to play, but I have a mic, webcam, Discord, and Roll20 account at the ready.
If the game I am looking at joining doesn't work out, I will reach out to you. Seems like a lovely group of people. :)

I'll happily hear in private of anyone who's interested in joining us, if you would prefer it. Posting here is still fine, too. :) We don't mind teaching the system (of which we hand-wave a fair bit, to be honest), so the most important thing will be, as always, how good the personalities click. Exposure to the setting is handy, but even that can be covered by popular media, such as movies (Bladerunner, Tank Girl), TV (Leverage), or books (Butcher's Dresden Files , Gibson's Snowcrash, Garrett's  Lord Darcy novellas). By and large, both campaigns favour continuity and long-running plots over action hero shenanigans, but the Friday one is likely a little closer to the traditional Shadowrun metier. Although not saintly, it's worth pointing out that our characters are more akin to Robin Hood and a little further from your typical hardened mercenary or criminal-for-hire than is perhaps expected by many current-day Shadowrun players. In this, we strike closer to the mood of the older editions, even if we aren't all blessed with neon-pink mohawks. Keep the posts coming! We will not pick on rapidity of response, but based on how comfortable we all feel with the people showing interest. Getting to know who you are as a person and a gamer is far more important to us than your proficiency at making a character with umpteen dice in skill X, or your ability to quote from the index.

I am the other GM (Gasboy in Discord). :)  We've both got lengthy GM experience, as Pat has let on, and we're friendly to newcomers and old hands at roleplay. We're happy to help with character background, and learning the system. Exposure to the setting is handy, but even that can be covered by popular media, such as movies (Bladerunner, Tank Girl), TV (Leverage), or books (Butcher's Dresden Files , Gibson's Snowcrash, Garrett's  Lord Darcy novellas). These movie, tv and novel worlds really give you an insight to the machinations of the Shadowrun world.  Take a distopian world, with a heavy "corporations dominate the world" feel, and throw in a dash of magic and hope.  It's a bit past cyberpunk and touching post-cyberpunk.  Science-fantasy is another way of putting it, if you want to generalize. If you've played any of the Shadowrun video games (with the exception of the Microsoft 2007 monstrosity), they were and are a great introduction to the world.
I'd like to join if that's by any way possible, ive been doing a campaign with some of my friends but we haven't gotten back into it so im looking something to keep me occupied for the time being
Hey man, I'm new to Shadowrun but have experience with 5e and pathfinder. If you guys have any openings I'd love to join! Thanks, Stefan
Hi! I'm a mid-40s player who has grown up reading the SR novels and dabbled somewhat in the RPG.  Not to mention I played the living hell out of the Sega SR game back in the day. I'm always in love with dystopian world scenarios and I particularly like the idea that your games seem to be more than just the next smash and grab.  With the wealth of potential lore in the SR world, it's frequently disappointing when games are just about the biggest gun and most damage. I'd like to throw my hat in for the Friday campaign.  Feel free to ping me on Discord; my tag is Terry#6304.  Thanks!

No promises, obviously, but once you know more on your end, give us a shout, and we'll do our best to get to know each other.

Please send me a pm - Roll20 seems to have an issue with me sending you one (I cannot create the text body, although the header works fine).
Please have patience, everyone, as I work through responses. Between Roll20 and one other forum where I posted, I've probably had 20 people showing interest, and it takes a while to reply, get a feeling for the personalities involved, tabulate interests and generally generate a conversation. New interest is still certainly welcome, but it may take me a bit of time to get around to giving you all feedback.
I'm interested, but I know next to nothing about Shadowrun.  I just assumed it was your basic cyberpunk game but your characterization of it as some mashup of sources as diverse as Leverage, Blade Runner, Tank Girl, and the Dresden Files is definitely catching my attention. I'd be interested in your Sunday session.  I'm an older gamer and prefer a group that takes their commitment to show up regularly seriously.  I've played a wide variety of games from D&D to Paranoia to Night's Black Agents/Trail of Cthulhu.  I'd be happy to talk with you further.
I am also interested. I am an old hand to Shadowrun. 1989 era and been playing since. Sundays sound great. I am in the Mountain time zone, and it would be a day off for me. I work overnights throughout the week. I've been inactive for the last few months, so an opportunity to role play is appealing. It would be a welcomed change of pace since all I did do was sit in the GM's seat a few years. Thanks for your valuable time and opportunity.
