Map Borders

When making detailed maps having clearly defined borders matters a lot. I often find when zooming out on the maps that the set proportions seem to get messed up, extending out in one or both directions, making some of the maps take on a really sloppy look. I have 0 idea if my players see this issue too, which concerns me since I work very hard to set a certain atmosphere and buggy borders on maps really break the immersion for me when GMing.

What I do do help with this problem is to always include a couple of squares and hexes of margin beyond the edges of the map. Set your page background to black and it should alleviate the immersion-breaking. In addition, if you hide those margins with plain Fog of War, they become a handy place to hide things without mucking about with the GM layer. Example.
Thank you much for your timely reply, I will try these.

I use the same method: larger page size, build in your own padding of margins within the page and darken your in-page border areas.
