Beginner wargame player want to experiment with r20

I'm looking for someone to experiment in playing wargames with roll20. What I want is really just to see if it's feasible to play wargames through this app, and learn the game while trying it out. I have some small knowledge of the Warhammer fantasy battle rules and really want to play, but none of my friends are interested in wargames, so I have to play online. My first thought with r20 was, "Oh yeah! now I can play wargames!", but then I realized while trying out the app, that you can't rotate groups of tokens. This isn't good for games like warhammer ofcourse. But, you can however change the size of tokens and/or import your own assets. So I figured that I could test if  this could work "for real". The games I will setup won't be pretty at first, since it's really just "prototype" games. But if I feel it could work, I will be looking for someone to play wargames with (and learn from). Sorry if this Post is a bit incoherent, just post any questions you have and I will try and clarify xD.
I'm currently looking to do the same thing, and the workaround I figured for the token group was to use a single token, but resized to fit the correct shape needed.   That still doesn't allow for wheeling on screen.  You'll have to use your imagination.
Awesome, Do you know much about wargaming (warhammer more specifically)? Cause as I said, I have very limited knowledge, but want to learn =). If you want to try a match out just give a time and hopefully I'm free =D. If you have skype I could PM my info too, since I'm more often on skype.
As i read this...I am painting my WFB Dwarf army lol ;)
No, I don't know, much.  I've barely gotten thru the rule book. I like the idea of playing here b/c I'll never spend the $ on it, but I do enjoy it.
Well, would you like to play some anytime then? As I said, just shoot me a PM or post here and I'll setup a game when I got the time for it (most likely on the weekeend sometime)  I would probably buy stuff if I had anyone nearby that had a nice army and good knowledge on how to play =/.
To me, "wargame" means something like the old Avalon Hill tabletop wargames. I've never played Warhammer or similar games. However, I'd be interested in trying a wargame approach to Roll20 if anyone is putting something together.
fulltime warhammer might be a little tough, but I can tell you from experience that warhammer mordheim works perfectly fine on roll20
What do you mean by fulltime warhammer and what is warhammer mordheim? xD If anyone is interested in playing any other tabletop wargame I couild go for that too, all I really want is a physical "RTS". Something like chess but more complicated (Warhammer is ofcourse a prime example).
well regular warhammer is 2 giant armes clashing each game, and warhammer mordheim is when a group of people each make a smaller warband made up of heroes and henchmen and repeatedly clash with each other and the results carry with them to the next fights whether good or bad.
so Mordheim uses normal Warhammer rules, but in a different system?
I don't have a deep familiarity with Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WHFB) or Mordheim (yet) but have seen parts of both rulesets. My understanding is that Mordheim is a ruleset for skirmish battles where WHFB is large scale army battles but both are for table top miniature wargaming. I've played Bloodbowl, Warhammer Fantasy RPG (2nd &amp; 3rd ed), and Warhammer 40k RPG in the past and all those systems have strong similarities so I would expect there to be similarities between WHFB and Mordheim with most of the difference being scale (of army size, not mini size). Most importantly, the ruleset for Mordheim is available for free on GW's website. While I haven't read through it, I made sure to grab a copy in case it ever disappears even though I did manage to score a copy of the game in print on ebay with the slick cardboard buildings intact.&nbsp; Link to the Mordheim ruleset &amp; other resources: <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat480008a&amp;categoryId=6700006a&amp;section=&amp;aId=21500021a" rel="nofollow">http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat480008a&amp;categoryId=6700006a&amp;section=&amp;aId=21500021a</a> If that link doesn't go through, go to their main page and follow the following: "Specialist Games" tab &nbsp;in upper menu, under categories tree on left look for "Mordheim Resources" under Mordheim.
Well, since I already own the rulebook for WHFB (7th ed) and as you said, mordheim seems like a scaled down version, like a demo perhaps, I would rather go for the real deal so to speak xD. I also got my hands on the "Battle for skulls pass" starter edition book, wich seems to go through the essentials for beginners, wich is very nice =D.
After reading up properly:&nbsp; <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordheim" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordheim</a> I think the main differences is that Mordheim is (canonically atleast) set in Mordheim, and that there are rules for individual miniatures in a unit
I just now encoutered a problem I didn't think of before... While probably not very significant, the sizes of the models and the scale of the battlefield are things that confuse me, wich is not helped by the fact that miniature base sizes are measure in mm while movement use inches... Also, exuse my multiple posts, but I cant seem to edit posts&nbsp; for some reason...
For base sizes I was planning on rounding to the nearest inch. Close enough that it shouldn't break anything.
the biggest difference is mordheim unlike regular warhammer carries over from fight to fight. Your warband will grow in experience, skills, and equipment unlike warhammer.
