Tablet Interface or just general performance issues?

I have a 10.5” iPad Pro, and I’ve noticed that the general performance of roll20 is hot garbage. Major map scrolling lag, UI lag/delay, elements in the sidebar are sort of... out of position. I *think* I’m using the tablet interface. I have a subscription but honestly the UI doesn’t look any different, just “worse” and glitchy. I can’t get the right click workaround to work (I just get an expanding red circle), and Lordy is the whole thing slow. I have tried multiple browsers, forcing both desktop and tablet mode. Would I be better served by picking up a Dell Chromebook 11 or something? I use my iPad Pro for daily computing at home, so this is kinda frustrating. The iPad has FAR better Geekbench scores than any Chromebook I’m looking at, the same amount of RAM... but who knows. Maybe it’s something specific to roll20, and I may be willing to spend $150 to fix that. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Aaron C., You might be able to find some helpful advice on the wiki page for Table on Tablet . I have a fairly new iPad and an older Chromebook, and although the iPad is faster, the Chromebook gives a far better experience, though it may balk on very large games or maps depending on specs. If you want to use the mobile app , be aware that currently the iPad version of the app has a couple known issues that will require a complete rebuild in order to fix. You can read more about available workarounds for known problems and why we're currently unable to update the app at this time:  Workarounds for Issues with the Ipad Roll20 App . Normally I would close this thread after copying the post and redirecting responses to the above thread. However, my suspicion is that you are talking about Table on Tablet, not the app, so I will leave this open in the hopes that users who game through iPads or Chromebooks may have helpful tips or guidance.

Yeah, I’m specifically referring to Tabletop on Tablet. Thanks for the feedback and also for leaving it open! I also wasn’t aware I could play using the native iOS app. It never loaded for me. 😊

As I understand it, the iOS App is more geared toward playing at the table: running your character sheet and reading handouts, making rolls, etc. Table on Tablet is closer to a web browser experience.
Thanks for leaving this open, because I wanted to update for anyone with similar concerns that this is very much a mobile safari/apple implementation of JS issue on iOS or something. I’m playing roll20 on a 10-year old iMac and it’s humming along. Great platform, guys!
I have reported this problem on the 2nd of September. One of the late summer updates broke right click, and they (have not been able/couldn’t bother) to find and fix the issue. You are the third subscriber I see reporting this problem on this forum.

Hi Lynx, If you could provide links, I will consolidate and escalate those reports in this thread. To be clear, we are talking about Table on Tablet (not Mobile App , which got a new release for iOS today ) and using Chrome or Firefox (not Safari, which is not supported). From what I am reading, the general issues are: 1) slow performance ( aaron , could you verify that you are using a supported browser on your iPad Pro?) 2) Non-functional right-click
I've used both Safari and Chrome on the iPad Pro, and can confirm the issue with rightclick.

I have alerted the dev team.

Thanks for the URL, lynx655. I didn't see a mention of Advanced Fog of War in aaron's post, but yes, that feature is very processor-hungry. I would (personally) recommend using it only on a relatively robust full desktop/laptop.
Hi everyone, We are certainly aware of issues regarding mobile versions and applications for Roll20. It is something we are planning to greatly improve upon and more readily improve upon our support in these realms. Lynx, regarding the issue you and others have been encountering-- We definitely realize that this is a frustrating loss of functionality and are still digging to find what change caused the problem.
