Limiting Game Tags of LFG

As I'm writing this, every time I suffle through different game systems, there are always 5-6 campaigns that remain the same on all searches. All of them have a different purpose (Looking for X speakers, new players looking for a GM to do literaly anything, homebrews fishing for players by tagging completely unrelated games, private hangouts), but it is turning into a serious nuisance. I suggest that there should be a tag limit to each campaign or that new categories get introduced for games that still haven't settled on a system and for those that are used for many systems (like Unspecified and Various .) *EDIT* Oh, title typos! It was supposed to say "Limiting." *EDIT 2* Thank you Sarah for fixing the title!
+1. Going through the listings for Traveller this morning there are seven active entries. Only two listings are for an actual game of Traveller, one for a related game, and the remainder - the majority - are systemless entries looking for GMs/Dutch-speaking/Furry groups.
Fixed the title for you. :)
I agree with this. On a related note can we possibly get categories that are more generic in game types? Such as maybe a generic D&D/Pathfinder/FATE or even as far as saying D20 in general. I think that would help campaigns that want to use a rule system but haven't picked a specific edition yet, or even one that uses a hodgepodge of rules from multiple editions.
i would also love to see this implemented. as a (very) new player on this site, it was quite frustrating to browse through searches for, say "Shadowrun"... and be presented with a bunch of completely unrelated fantasy homebrew campaigns that simply added every possible tag. perhaps making certain tags incompatible might resolve this? ie; you can't be "Shadowrun" -and- "D&D" or maybe limit the number of tags for specific systems to say 5ish (there's 5 different D&D tags). or perhaps only allow a single Game System, and just add a "D&D (Any version)" ** tags should perhaps be less "inclusive" -- searching for a selection of all the D&D types, i also got piles of Pathfinder and other fantasy systems. now, nothing against pathfinder here, it's just not the system i wanted to get into. (also see the "category" idea below.) ** create multiple search fields. "contains these tags" and then a 2nd field for "not these tags" ** create additional, more generic tags, possibly in a 3rd search field "Category" Fantasy, Historical, Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Home-brew, Hack n Slash, Story-driven, Dungeon-crawl (sort of interpretable depending on the game).. Social -- ie, group organized for social reasons, like "how to be a better GM" or "players from [region]"... where the intent is more to gather and discuss instead of play a game. i'm sure there are lots more tags that could be added here. Heck, "Fantasy" and "Sci-Fi" could each be broken down into a dozen categories without even putting in effort. ** other threads have also suggested limiting search by "open slots". this would be a great option.. or perhaps have a "recruiting" tag, to indicate whether a group will accept more players at this time. "welcomes new players" reads to me like "it's ok if you're new to this system (or roleplaying in general), we'll help you learn it" and not that the group is looking for more players to join. anyway, awesome site here.. looking forward to seeing it continue to grow and improve. :)
+1 These are all good Ideas and I hope there will be something done about these "All-tag" Campaigns. The Lfg is really flooded with them now and you will find more of them then the actual game you are looking for if you look for less popular games. I don't mind more general groups that have no setting yet or are just meeting groups but they shouldn't show up everywhere else.
I concur with this.

(also see the "category" idea below.) To be fair, Pathfinder is basically D&D 3.75 =) Social -- ie, group organized for social reasons, like "how to be a better GM" or "players from [region]"... where the intent is more to gather and discuss instead of play a game. AFAIK, such meta-games are discouraged. I remember specifically people being asked not to use a campaign like an IRC chat for real-time LFG purposes, so I doubt a tag like this would be added. In general, though, I fully support a more comprehensive search tool! The more people can find the games they want to play, the better.
