looted ships

Let's say you fight some baddies and capture their ship, if there's an outstanding loan on the ship, can you just take over payments, does the ship become yours free and clear, do you need to return the ship to the owner, is there a reward? Etc. Etc.  I'm just curious what happens. How about regular vehicles?
Last time we took back a ship from some pirates the bank paid us a portion of the ships actual cost for returning it. From what I understand most ships that people have are still being paid off so generally they want the ship back.

Thanks very much; that makes sense. edit: I've read book 1 and 3 ... skimming a bunch of course because I'm not a Referee, and it's pretty neat so far.
Also, I don't understand something in the rules: Throw 13+ for a misjump.... DM +15 if within 10 planetary diameters.... and ship is destroyed on 16+ .... doesn't that mean that the ship is automatically destroyed on a jump attempt from within 10 planetary diameters?
The DMs are not cumulative.  Assuming no other DMs if the ship Jumps within 10 diameters of a world everything works out correctly on a roll of 2.  On a roll of 3, 4 or 5 the ship misjumps.  Any roll higher than a 5 means total destruction of the ship.  Total Party Kill. An anomaly within my campaign is the Adam's Moon, or Jump Moon.  I usually call them wormholes but they are in fact spherical, planet sized artifacts of unknown origin.  They are somehow paired such that anytime a ship performs a jump within 10 diameters of an Adam's Moon they will leave jump within 10 diameters of the paired moon.  This is not cannon or in the rules, this is a twist on the rules I've added to my universe.  There is a pair between Quartermark and Mensah represented by the line between the systems.
Thanks very much... in the pdf I have, the write-up says +15 DM, but the table thereafter says +10DM, and there are a few such discrepancies. I'll read all the way through before I ask again. That said, the wormholes are pretty cool.  :)  Is their primary effect to enable ships of any jump capability to get to specific destinations in a single jump?
Yes that is how the wormholes are being used.  The government of the systems they are in collect a fee from ships using them.
