Hey all,
Posted the other day to see if there were any RQ6 games going on that I could sit in on. Didn't get a response. So - either there are none or my timing is bad. But I'd really like to kick the tires of this system and take her for a spin.
To that end, I'm offering to run a session (perhaps 2 or 3) of Runequest to see how she handles. It wouldn't be immediate (not this week), but if there is interest, then I can get something going for a day next week.
If it turns out to be pretty awesome, it could turn into a long-term campaign.
To give a brief overview of the system - classless, based on skills, d100, simulationist but Narrative-style friendly, GRITTY, realistic battle for fantasy (hit locations, HP per body part, chance to parry/defend, etc...). For a good review read this blog http://rpgsnob.blogspot.com/ (granted you'll have to scroll around to find all the entries relevant to Runequest 6. Entries of Sep 18th, July 8th, April 21st, and April 14th give a great overview of the game and its mechanics.
Here's what I'm looking for in players - any experience level. As this system is new to me, we can learn together. I do want folks that are interested in STORY and INTERACTION with the world. This wont be a hack n slash. I am quite bored with hack n slash campaigns. So, if you are interested, bring that RP spirit and be ready to contribute to the story. I want folks with a flare for the cinematic. Don't just swing at the orc. Lash out crying "Death to green scum" with a powerful overhand blow deftly pivoting around the half-burnt corpse on the ground at your feet. (You get the idea I hope).
RQ6 has a cool mechanic called Luck Points you can use to, among other things, help create or steer the story to a limited degree (or buy a reroll to save your scrawny butt!). So be ready to be creative. The world this will be placed in is very well developed, but I encourage ad lib as long as it doesn't break the fiction or fail the CHEEZY test (as determined by other players). There is also a mechanic called Luck Pool - if two or more PCs develop ties in the backgrounds somehow (family, grew up together, saved each others lives once, etc...) you get a pool of Luck Points.
As Skype gives me no end of trouble lately, we'll use EITHER Google Hangout OR built-in Voice. Voice only - not video. And sorry - no text-only participants.
With RQ6, there is but the one book. If you don't have the book, s'fine - buy Legend (Mongoose Publishing) for a buck (really - $1.00) and that will get you FAMILIAR with the system. RQ6 has refined certain rules. I'll help with char gen. There are many questions you'll ask me during char gen pertaining to world and what not. I'll answer all those as they come up. The magic system we will use is based off the Sorcery system presented in RQ6 with a few tweaks.
The setting will be fantasy (quasi-low I suppose). Magic items will be extremely limited - basically non-existent unless you are incredibly lucky. Races - humans. Cultures: an asian-esque culture, a middle eastern-esque culture, a seafaring culture, an agrarian/baroque culture, a nomadic culture (2 actually - one dedicated to peace, the other very war-like), few others ... this will come up during character creation actually as it is integral.
I've rambled on quite enough for now.
