Detroit: Living City a Shadowrun 5e Community Recruiting - Season 1

Edited 1547093352
A city of chrome, casters and killers. Detroit’s grip rises from the coast of the great lakes to give Shadowrunners the chance to rake in the nuyen. A place where Ares sits on its throne running the sprawl inside of The Marble Wall, while SINless spill their brother’s blood outside of that corporate cage. On the neon black streets of Detroit a commlink rings.   Will you answer the call? ----------------------------------------- A person picks up a ringing commlink, as do four others as the sun sets over the Detroit Skyline. Jim Quinn has a job for the interested parties, he says it pays well but if they want further details they have to show up to the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Pub. Don't worry though, boosting rides in the Motor City is a story older than the rust on my Trans-Am. If you're interested in becoming a Motorist, look through the pre-made characters for the interview run. You will pick with the rest of the interview run team at the table: Ace - A Con Man raised by Conmen. Blockhead - A silver-age Rigger on his last legs, running for his family. Firefly - She's a Shaman of the Streets, since she was young. Oak - A troll in a corporate suit, fighting the man from the inside. Binary - An up-and-coming kid using his decking skills to get out of the streets. Aorta - A field medic turned Doc Wagon HTR team taking to the streets of detroit to hood. Showtimes (Interview Run Dates): January 19th, 2019 - 17:00 pm GMT-  21:00 GMT Slot / 22:00 GMT - 02:00 GMT     February 3nd, 2019 - 17:00 pm GMT-  21:00 GMT Slot / 22:00 GMT - 02:00 GMT ----------------------------------------- Detroit Living City is a Living Community focused on roleplay, story, and character Development. we cant create our own character?

I'm not familiar with the "living community" play style.  From the website, it sounds basically like a bunch of one-shot games but you can keep and level the same character between them?  The group of players can change in every game?

Correct. If you played in a Adventure League style of play before, it's similar to that. But in short, you build a singular character that you take from GM's table to GM's table, with the party changing more or less every time. If you play often enough you'll see the same faces and grow close with certain team mates but otherwise It'll be a new experience every table you get. Where we differ is that the overarching theme of the community has a grand plot that stretches between multiple GMs, so you'll be part of many players/gms in a large narrative while participating in smaller narratives building up that bigger whole. Hope this helps, Jesse!
Thanks for the explanation.  That's kind of what I was afraid of.  I prefer playing with at least the same core group of characters/players and building shared history and experiences.  I find it hard to get invested in a game when you don't. It just seems too ephemeral to me.  Good luck finding players, though.  Your site is well done and you seem like a professional bunch.

Hi, I'm a relatively active member of Detroit Living City and can only say good things about my time there and the people in it. I would highly recommend it. Some more specific thoughts: Setting: Detroit is 'living and breathing' because the story of the city is really being created by GMs and Players from the ground up. There's a good amount of lore generated already but really, you're on the ground floor. There's no 20 books of lore you have to know. Feel/Culture: The GMs are really creating a crazy, dark world. There's lots of threats and often hardcore shit just around the corner. Detroit is like a city under threat from bug spirits (being so close to Chicago), evil corporate interests and even Lovecraftian horrors. The GMs are really creative. Characters: Very colorful. People are trying out story/character ideas in their heads and the community is receptive to it. Not crazy for crazy's sake or ultra crazy snowflake mechanically, but the cast of characters the LC has is top to bottom super interesting. I play a gnome medic/mage who doesn't take combat spells. What makes DLC unique?: The roleplaying on and off table, collaborative writing and personal writing (from the characters' lives). Some of the reads are incredible and you can see what stories players are generating in response to their own ideas and what's going on in the world.

I will say the thing that is hugely different from adventure league & DLC is it is the same group of people. It's not random players and characters showing up like a convention. Plus the group is all together in discord chatting as friends or in character. The best way to explain this is every player has a runner they play in the community. They are in character discord chats to talk between runs. These are known as ICRP.  AT THE TABLE When you join a run it's like your character signing up on the run board though a fixer. You will see the same player characters get hired. Sometimes it is the same team as last time you were at the table other times it may be just one person, but you know each runner because of the living city aspect. STORY DLC also has a story going for 4 months at a time and the GMs use hooks to tie things back into those runs. It helps keep that shared history you are talking about. I'd say sign up for an interview run and give it a shot. It is much closer to the at home group feel than adventure league or other organized plays. Hope this helps a bit

If you had to put a number on it, what would say the percentage of same players is?  For example, would you say you see at least half of the same people each time?  I'm interested in how deep the churn is between games.  I just find I don't tend to do well when there's not at least some player continuity between games.
Would this be open to new players? I have been searching for a Shadowrun Tabletop game, and have not been able to get into one due to interest. I understand the lore of the world exceptionally well. I would, of course, be willing to learn any additional rules I am unfamiliar with. Or does this application require prior experience?

Hey Jere, it never hurts to put in an application and see where it goes! Currently we’re looking at many recruitment possibilities for the season 1 recruitment drive. With all kinds of backgrounds. So don’t be afraid to put one in.

Our community is currently less than fifty players, with constant RP occurring between individuals in chat to build in character relations. Beyond that, the ratio of familiar faces at the table is always high due to the nature of our community and how we play.

With the amount of RP that happens between characters before and after runs it's a pretty tight knit group. About 50% of the people are active a daily rate. There are between 13-20 runs a given month. This allows for flexibility of play and some great stories. Heck if a player says, "I really want to do a series of runs developing a close connection with a contact / job / player a GM will for sure help get this set up.
Perhaps I will give this a shot after all, then.  You guys seem to be a professional bunch.

The first interview timeslot is full, but we have spots available in a few of the other spots.

So the way I am reading it, there are four slots and the first one is full up?  How many spots are still available?  I've only just read through this thread and my curiosity is piqued.
Hey Peter, Thank's for your interest! We've got 10 spots available for our February timeslot, Five in the morning, and Five in the afternoon. Hope this helps!
