Introduction ========== There is nothing more you could loose - that or a similar thought must have went through your head when you signed up for the gladiatorial games. Although the arena of Waterdeep cannot compare with the gigantic Colosseum of Calimshan, it still serves the same meat-grinding purpose. The masses are being entertained for a short time by the suffering and death of a few unfortunate fools. Your thoughts veil heavy on you, as you are tightening the bandages around your fists, one of the few pieces of armor that are allowed within the arena. The masses came to see bloodshed and heavy armor would block their sight. As you are about to make your peace with your decisions and face the harsh reality of a high likelihood to soon meet your makers, the door of your compartment opens. A hooded figure silently slips into the room and uses the cast shadows in the corner to cover from the bright daylight outside. The soft-spoken voice matches the grace of his entrance as he tells you: "So, I see that you ready yourself for the battle today. Listen, for all I know there are only two type of Gladiators, those who live and die by the sword and the ones, who know when to quit. It appears to me that you might be of the latter sort." After a short pause, he continues: "I take it that you brought yourself into a difficult situation, but I can see potential in you - potential that would be wasted in the bloodshed of the arena. I could offer you a more meaningful engagement than throwing your life away for cheap entertainment. The people I work with are looking for adventurers and you seem to have what it takes to live up to that task. Think about it - there is so much more that you could do with your life - so much more you can influence." The man stretches out a hand, seemingly exited about his own speech: "I - I am getting carried away, if you like to discuss details, you know where to find me." With a nimble movement, the man slips out the door almost as fast as he entered. You are confused - why did he assume you would know where to find him? As you walk to the door and take a look into the empty stone hallway, you notice a fine line of sand - you take it as the first test of your abilities. While looking over your shoulder into your room for one last time, you start to drop your bandages and walk into the dimly lid hallways to follow your destiny. Background for me as a DM: ===================== I am an experienced Dungeon master with over 11.000 hours in Roll20 and more than 15 years of DMing experience. Being aware that a pay-to-play game needs to be worth its money, I run the game with the clear intention to exceed the players expectations. It goes without saying that all of the sessions are well prepared, usually for each of the campaigns I have multiple thousand of immersive handouts, descriptions and background information. The total world spans about 150 maps, about 500 macros for combat as well as carefully created manual content. The in-game content in many cases is pixel perfect to offer a good immersion. In order to give you an overview, here are some examples of what it can look like: http://imgur.com/a/rgjp7 Timing: ======== I would offer to run the campaign on Sundays, my current timezone is Central US Time (CDT), which is (CET -7). I am happy to discuss about starting and ending time, each session will at least last 3-4 hours per week. The campaign: ============ Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors or the Crown of the North, was the most important and influential city in the North and perhaps in all Faerûn. For this reason it was considered part of the Western Heartlands of the Realms, even though it lay 150 miles north of Daggerford on the shores of the Sword Coast. The road to Waterdeep was well paved and well patrolled. The city was the hub of trading from the mineral-rich lands to the north, the merchant kingdoms of Amn and Calimshan to the south, the kingdoms of the Inner Sea to the east, and the sea kingdoms and traders to the west. Waterdeep's authority extended between thirty to forty miles from its walls. Waterdeep was named for its outstanding natural deep-water harbor, and the city that grew up at this site became the commercial crossroads of the northern Realms. More than 100,000 people made their home in Waterdeep. The halls of Undermountain located beneath the city were a popular target for adventurers, who enjoyed the close vicinity of the city's main taverns and temples where aid could be purchased through donations. The campaign will unfold in the city and offer you a variety of adventuring options to get to know the different parts like the City of the Dead, the Undermountain, the giant City-wards and the noble houses of Waterdeep. Roleplay, Rules, Combat: ==================== Depending on your interest, I usually tend to offer immersive in-game options to follow a mix of roleplaying and combat. Since I enjoy both, it often ends up to be equally distributed. I am very rule knowledgeable and therefore playing by the rules will be no problem (I tend to give less experienced players a breakdown of their options and likely consequences). A core trait of all my scenarios is that actions have consequences, no matter what you decide, you will see an impact in the game world. Character Creation: ================== - Stats: Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10) - Traits: none - Level Buyoff: none - Templates / LA Races: none - Multiclassing penalty: none - Starting Level: 2 - Gold: 900gp, no single item for more than 50% of this value House rules: ========== I usually do not use houserules, as in my experience most of the players are reasonably fine with the rules as written content. If the group collectively has wishes to modify parts of the system, I have a lot of experience in how to do that. As for now, I intend to provide the purest DnD 3.5 (Pathfinder compatible) experience to the players. How to apply: ============ This campaign is looking for long term motivated players. Of course, playing a test session to see if this is the right thing for you is no problem at all. Generally speaking though, if I start the campaign, I would want to do it with the motivation to play regularly and for a longer period. So if you are looking for a reliable long-term campaign, this one would be for you. Please post in this topic if you are interested in the campaign and want to apply. I appreciate if you use following format. Name: Experience in Dnd 3.5 / Pathfinder: That's what I enjoy in roleplaying: Character Concept: Things that I am looking for in the campaign: As a player, I enjoy tabletop games, because: As a player, I do not like: See the listing here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/144341/waterdeep-city-of-splendors-forgotten-realms
