Welcome to the Sword Coast, adventurers! The Lost Mine of
Phandelver is an introductory campaign designed to introduce new players
to the world of RPGs, Faerun, and D&D 5th Edition.
Over five hundred years ago, a pact was made between a
clan of gnomes and dwarves which became known as the Phandelver Pact.
Together they mined the magically rich ores within Wave Echo Cave. Human
spellcasters from nearby Phandalin joined forces with them and together
they combined their collective skills to create a forge to craft
magical items dubbed the Forge of Spells. Everything came to an abrupt
end when orcs, craving magical treasures, sieged Phandalin and the Wave
Echo Cave mine. The battle destroyed Phandalin and much of the mine as
well, causing various cave-ins throughout. Very few survived the
conflict to relate the tale. The Forge of Spells become legend and the
entrance to Wave Echo Cave was lost.
In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren
Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the
rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel
southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a
little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and
his brothers had found “something big,” and that he’d pay you ten gold
pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen’s Provisions, a
trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along
with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to
arrive early to “take care of business.”
Who I am Looking For
I'm looking for adult players with experience ranging from
Absolutely None to Some Experience. I am looking for players who are
looking to tell a fun and interesting story, get immersed in fun
characters (including their flaws), and have a good time at the table.I
want people who talk to the NPCs and get invested in the world so that they can get the most out of the game. You should be at the table to have fun!
Disclaimer: there is nothing wrong with falling in these categories, but if you do, this DM not the DM you're looking for.
Power gamers, rules lawyers, angsty loners, and wanton
murderers should not apply for this game. I do not want this story to be
quagmired by metagaming, nitpicking, lack of participation, and random
acts of violence. I want this game to be friendly to beginners and be
focused on telling a fun story. The point of D&D, to me, is not to
"beat" the other players or make the most optimized, best-est character
in the whole game.
Commitment
In my experience, this adventure takes around 12 sessions to
finish although it could vary by 3-4 sessions depending on the character
choices. Games will be occurring from 6PM to 9PM US Pacific Time on
Tuesdays. Our Session 0 will be on January 22 and will be free;
we will be mostly learning your Roll20 interfaces, getting setup on
Discord, and discussing character relationships and details. It
shouldn't take more than an hour.
About Me
I'm 28 years old currently living in California. I have been
playing Table Top Role-Playing Games (TTRPGs) for 5 years now (starting
with Pathfinder 1) and have been GMing games for 4 years with a group of
friends and a few one-shots at my local comic book stores (exclusively
D&D 5e). I started DMing and playing on Roll20 last year and am
looking to bring the skills I have gained to others!
I aim to make the game fun for players - I am your greatest
fan, and I want to see your characters do great things! This is an
adventurer meant for beginners to be a fairly light-hearted and easy
introduction to D&D 5e, so I will not be running a D&DarkSouls
game. Above all else, I want you to have fun. If you are not having fun, I am not doing my job.
Regarding Cost
This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $15 USD per gaming session
and is due at the start of the session. Roll20 is not responsible for
any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements.
You can pay via PayPal or Venmo. The fee is for the seat at the table,
so barring an emergency or an absence worked out in advance, you will be
expected to pay even if you aren’t there.
If you miss more than two sessions unannounced, I will remove
you from the game and fill your vacant seat with another player.
Absences are OK, but I do not want to plan for your attendance and then
have that plan torpedoed by an absence.
I will focus on each of you individually to make sure you get
the most out of your experience. This includes things such as: creating
or helping you create NPCs that are narratively related to you,
personalizing quests, items, and personal goals, and one-on-one
assistance if you have any questions about Roll20, D&D 5e, etc..
Character Creation
We will be using the pre-generated characters that are included with the adventure - they are:
- The Human Noble (Champion Fighter)
- The Human Folk Hero (Champion Fighter)
- The High Elf Acolyte (Evocation Wizard)
- The Dwarf Soldier (Life Cleric)
- The Halfling Criminal (Thief Rogue)
I like the pre-generated characters since it really mitigates
the work required of the players before the session and roots the
characters into the world with a Personal Quest.
How to Apply
Apply by posting in the forum post, "Player Applications" (it will have a flag marker on it). Do not make a new post.
Communications Information
We will be using Discord for voice chat during sessions as I
have had some issues with Roll20's native voice / video services. A
quiet environment is a must , and a good pair of headphones with a microphone is desired .
Outside of game sessions, I will relay lore, information, and
other messages through Forum posts. Participation in forum posts is
required - even just a quick post that says, "Seen!" is fine. I just
want to make sure that the information I'm relaying is being seen by
everyone :)
Sometimes I will ask for feedback on forum posts (they will be
tagged), and I would very much appreciate it if those got thoughtful
responses. I will reward responding to feedback posts with Inspiration
for the next session.
