Everyone and anyone is welcome. The game is 5th level, but even if you are new to the game, I've set up characters through D&D Beyond and all you have to do is show up! We aren't using anything "fancy" on Roll20, so you just need to know how to connect! It is a "thief" game. You gotta steal stuff and not get caught! The game will focus more on role-playing and clever use of skills/abilities/ideas. If you end up trying to do "toe-to-toe" combat in this adventure, you will most likely die. Your organization operates in the shadows, altering the fate of civilization. A long lost, ancient artifact, The Box of Shadows, may have been found. Now you must hurry to obtain the Box before it can fall into the wrong hands. The leaders of the "Shadow Society" (one of the names of your group) have arranged for Lord Sadar of the Noble House Sadar to be away from his estate for a few days. Sources say Lord Sadar recently came into the possession of something called the Shadow Key. In 3 days, the moon will be full and the Shadow Key can be activated, which is said to open a doorway into the Shadow Realm, commonly referred to here in the city as "The Shadow of Ptolus." Your team must infiltrate the Sadar Estate and steal the Shadow Key. Then, on the first night of the full moon, the proper ritual must be performed (which has been provided to you). Then you should be able to enter the Shadow Realm and the Shade Tower should become accessible. Once in the Shade Tower, you must navigate the tower and make it past whatever guardians the tower may have. Somewhere in the Shade Tower is the Box of Shadows. If Lord Sadar, or any other vile filth gets their hands on the Box, the Empire could be consumed in darkness like the time of the Utter Dark in the days of Ghul. You have 3 days... I make a lot of calls based on the situation and dice rolls. I will often just ask you to roll a d20 and then see what happens. You can use whatever form of dice you like. There are a couple of Google Chrome extensions that will allow you to roll right on D&D Beyond on your character sheet. Or you can roll real dice at your table. I don't care. We will not be using macros, Roll20 character sheets or any automation. It's a pain in the ass if it doesn't work perfectly. The adventure takes place in Monte Cook's Ptolus: City by the Spire. I use my own homebrewed version for my home games. Some maps and info will be shared via World Anvil. You will need a free World Anvil account to access those maps. This is not required, but could add to the game. Also, I'm testing some of these things for the first time during a live session. This game will utilize audio and video (but video is not required). You must have headphones and a mic (to ensure no echo). We will be using the native Roll20 voice and video so we do not have to use additional applications (such as skype or discord). I will have Discord on standby for a backup. I will be recording the session, but I have not decided if it will be shared publicly. I'm trying out recording a session for the first time. We will be using Roll20 as a "game board" but most of this game will be "theater of the mind." I have basic tokens and a few visualizations set up, but I want to keep if fairly simple.I don't personally like the "automation" of virtual tabletops. I want to focus on interacting with each other, not the interface. Don't be shy! Let's roll some dice!
