You find yourself in the city of Sarvale, Capital of Maran Province in the Litzian Empire. Perhaps you accompanied a particular diplomat there from the province of Buthalpa? Or perhaps how you got there is your own business.
The south eastern region of the Empire has 3 provinces: Thenyl, Buthalpa, and Mara. A traveler might recognize that Thenyl and Buthalpa are wrought with poverty, and yet Mara's economy is booming. A Buthalpan may be shocked that the gold for a single night's stay in the inn could buy a farm in the countryside back home. A local, however, will not even bat an eye when they pay for the stay with a note from the local bank before heading off to the beach to watch the beautiful sun set over the crystal clear waters in the East.
But Mara may not be the wealthy paradise it strives to be. Recently, Lord Whitton of the capital of Sarvale has had his food poisoned, and his food taster has since perished. Normally, a poisoning would be of no issue: The priests at the local temple could heal the unfortunate lad. And yet no matter how many healing spells the priests of Ra, Gerana, or Neria would cast on him, his body would lay motionless, his heart still.
The locals aren't sure what Lord Whitton plans to do about the attempt on his life. The local guard force is on watch for assassins, but haven't found any leads. Perhaps your skills could help uncover who it was that planned to murder the Lord of Sarvale?

About this game:
I am in need of 1 or 2 players for a D&D 5e campaign. We play Sundays, 3 pm to 7 pm Eastern Standard Time. We will play by text post in real time using R20 as a forum, and discuss out of character in Discord (you may type or talk). In order to join, you'll need:
> a 4th level 5e character
> a well written backstory that proves your creative writing prowess.
> any additional creative writing excerpts you may have on hand you want to show me to prove you don't write like a 10 year old.
Players must actively try to attend each week's session. Attendance is a must.
More info:
This setting has a set Pantheon of gods, and if you have a religious character you are encouraged to pick your patron from the list.
This setting has mostly humans: Sarvale is historically a human city. However, all races are accepted here. Even though the humans used to keep the Dwarves and the Orcs/Half-Orcs as slaves, the Litzian Empire made slavery illegal 165 years ago, and most other cities have varied diversity.
This game is aimed to be mostly intrigue and role playing, but there will be some instances for combat as well.
