Never played D&D before, where to start as a total beginner?

Hey guys, like the title says I have never played a game of D&D before, lately I've grown super interested in it. I watch youtube videos on the lore and monsters. I find it all super creative and awesome, and ever since I was young I've loved creative storytelling and roleplaying, just never tried it. The closest thing I've ever done is play planescape torment, and I absolutely loved it. I would really like to get into the actual tabletop game, and don't have any friends who are into that sort of stuff. So I'm wondering where to start? I know absolutely nothing, but really want to give it a shot.

Welcome! Try hopping over to "Join a Game" and look for D&D 5E (5th edition, most current and popular). Just check for games that welcome new players.  Might suggest trying a "one-shot", a non-recurring game, to get started.  One of the more popular ones here is "The Master's Vault" (since it's free) but there are several.  If you want to try for something a little more committed, might look for the beginner module "Lost Mines of Phandelver".  It's meant for beginners, usually lasts anywhere from 6-12 sessions, depending on the group and dm.  Note however that these are just suggestions and by no way am I saying these are the only ways to go.  If you find something here that interests you, go for it.  Just be sure you let them know that you're new and most people are willing to work with you.
