Hey all!
I always strive to try and find ways to make D&D a little more exciting, so I have a habit of making changes to the way the system works. This time is no different! I've been thinking about doing a different kind of long-running campaign, which will cater to the creative and hopefully force you to try thinking a bit outside the box. I call it Legacies.
The premise of the game is simple: You are part of an expedition to unknown lands, where you will be expected to participate in the formation of an outpost and the civilization of the lands.
However, setting up an outpost takes time, and making that outpost into a sprawling center of civilization takes even longer. That's why we will be playing the campaign through different time periods, from the first settlers, to their distant progeny. To do this, I've put up some rules, which also introduces a bigger amount of randomization.
First Generation Rules:
- Start level: 1
- Race and background will be randomly determined.
- Ability scores will be rolled in order of Strength to Charisma, with the ability to switch any two ability scores.
- The 3 results that makes up the ability score will be written in a document (more on this later).
- Class is chosen by player (Warlocks are not an option)
- Equipment based on class & Background
- Other personal details is up to the player.
Second+ Generation Rules:
- Start level: Variable
- Predecessor character determined at random.
- Race based on predecessor character.
- Ability scores determined by randomly selecting two numbers (one from each parent) + the highest of 2d6.
--- In most cases, for the second parent, a race is chosen and ability scores rolled in order, to determine the numbers used for the descendant. - Again, the 3 results making up each ability score is kept for later generations.
- Class chosen by player. (Warlock still not valid)
- Equipment based on class, wealth of predecessor and level. Certain items may be inherited from the predecessor character.
- Other personal details up to the player.
On top of that, I have some basic rules:
- Alignments (and alignment based abilities) are either invalid or modified.
- Planar and resurrection magic is banned.
So, there you have it. The game will probably be played on Fridays around 8pm CET (Central European time) and last for 4-5 hours per session. We will be using Discord for communication.
If this sounds like something you could be interested in, tell me something about yourself below. I am looking for dedicated roleplayers who enjoy flexing their creative muscle. I will not mind beginners, but be aware that my added rules does make things slightly more "advanced".
With that, I wish you a good day!
