LFPs; HarnMaster, 3rd; Weekdays, EST. Looking for mature RPers who want to exercise their noggins, not their dice.

Edited 1548735014
I would like to form a group of mature players interested in a no/low magic, medieval setting, focused on problem solving, diplomacy, deadly combat and heroic adventure.   Me: I'm a 49yo US Army officer set to retire in about six months and looking at getting back into tabletop RPGs as a hobby.  I played a lot when I was younger and actually spent about 5 months last summer DMing a homebrew/Rise of Tiamet campaign on FG, but work interceded and I had to end it.  However, that experience taught me a few valuable lessons.  Chiefly, that I prefer roleplay over rollplay and will actively seek games that challenge me on an intellectual level, rather than my luck with die rolling.  The dungeon crawl, hack and cast stuff, was great as a young adult but my tastes are a little more complex now.  I would very much like to form a group of like minded individuals. Roll20 License: PRO Game System: Harn Master, 3rd Ed.  Harn Master is a RPG system that is super easy to learn and use.  It focuses on realism and role-playing over theatrics and over-the-top heroics.  Combat is deadly. Actually, it is just as likely you will have to retire a character for loss of a limb or disease, as out right death. Time Zone: US, Eastern Standard Time Day of week and time: Tue Planned start date: Mid FEB with a couple 0 Sessions to discuss group concensus for type of campaign, setting, goals, characters, etc. Planned Duration & Frequency: Start 6 or 7pm, 3-4 hours, weekly Term: Long term campaign Text or Voice: Voice Voice software used: Discord or Google Will this be recorded and/or live streamed? Nope Roleplay & Combat mix: Combat in Harn Master is realistic and therefore deadly, so PCs will want to avoid it as much as possible.  However, the guys with the swords are the ones who get #$%& done, so combat is usually inevitable.  Its up to the players to fight when they've properly stacked the odds in their favor or run away when they're not. Number of Players in game & needed: No more than 4 or 5 players.  Due to lethality, would encourage players to have two PCs, so party could be 5-8 in number.  I would also like to experiment with having one of the players take on the role of the villian and his/her minions in encounters with the PCs.  This person would sort of be playing their own campaign to counter the PCs, planning moves, placing forces, etc. Character starting level & equipment: Harn Master doesnt have levels (or classes), the characters are very similar to you or me.  They have skills that they have learned and get better with more use and training.  How/where the PCs start on their timelines (raw recruit or grizzled veteran) will be determined by the type of campaign we agree to play. Character restrictions: Everyone is Human, though there is a possibility of Elves and Dwarves (if the players really want that) Details of your scenario: I have a campaign/sandbox plotline in mind that has the PCs in service of one of the Provincial Governors from one of the countries making up the large island of Harn.  They are tasked with quelling a possible uprising in one of the mountain passes of the provice that borders a rival kingdom.  All sorts of intrigue, mystery, and adventure awaits the party, as they tackle this monumental task and make decisions that could have long reaching implications as to their success (i.e. survival).  However, I would very much like to first form a group and then lead a discussion, where we determine a campaign and setting that will engage everyone and stir their imaginations.
I'd be very interested.
OK, cool.  Unfortunately, judging by the number of views per actual responses, might not see much interest here.  I am trying to gen some up in the Harn forums as well (Lythia.com).
Hi Todd. After reading the reviews on HarnMaster, I can change my free time schedule to give it a try. Most likely on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. It reminds me of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance role-playing video game. I enjoyed the video game so I'm hopeful that I will enjoy HarnMaster. My Roll20 profile is up to date. Thanks.
What game system do you intend to play?
Player Name: Robert Age: 36 Timezone: Pacific Standerd Time D&D Experience: I played since high school Availability: Always available because I am between jobs. I will be presint for all games. Contact my at: Discord#2734 Play Style: I love sandbox games and I love exploration. I like having player-driven goals and I'm very self-motivated. I like being able to assert my character I want the story in an impactful way. I've been meaning to try hexcrawl. About me: I first became interested in role-play games while I was sitting in Saturday school as a young child watching satanic-panic propaganda videos in a Methodist church. I found the videos to be so hilarious and fun that I decided to try to find a game to play in as soon as possible. I later decided to experiment with the Mormon church and found a group of gamers in the priest group. The guys in the priest group and I became friends quickly and I learned that they had a D&D game running and I asked to join. My first game master was named Mark and his style was a cross between narrative and sandbox. How he created a game is that he would write a narrative, and if a player decided to do something that went against his narrative he would encourage it rather than trying to block player character influence in the story and I appreciated that. After High School I decided to permanently leave organized religion and be agnostic. I decided to maintain my new hobby of playing tabletop role-playing games. Sample character: (I am willing to make changes.) I'm a high elf from a crystal Spire City I followed one of my parents advice and joined a religious order dedicated to that Elvin Divine Patron. The life of a priest not fully satisfying me I gave into my wonderlust and we doing an adventure. On my Adventures I became infatuated with a human woman. Spending some time in per City we developed a mutual appreciation for one another and started to imagine spending more time together. In an unplanned night of passion we began a child together. In the following months to come our indiscretion became known. My woman friend fearing the label of adulterer due to producing a child without marriage she made plans for and announced her desire to abort the child. My failing to argue for the life of the child and my unwillingness to allow harm to come to a life that I am responsible for gave me conviction to preserve the child. Determined to keep the child safe I declare to my brief lover that as soon as a child was old enough to travel I would leave with the child and not return. I convinced her with the promise that the child would live separate from her in a home that I would keep for myself and the child. When they travel to reach the age of two I decided not to delay our departure and decided to Adventure back to the crystal Spires of my home City. Returning home I was greeted with some curiosity as to why I had returned with a human child. Despite my efforts to conceal a child with me it's presents with me was obvious. I can fight it in my trusted cousin but I had returned with a child old and requested of her that she care for and protect the child while I continue my duties as a priest. Time passed in my cousin began to school to me for coming back with a human child and concealing the child from the order of priesthood that I served. My cousin brought the presence of the child to the attention of my parents and then my parents brought the fact that I had returned with a child to the city's ruling Council. Non elves are not welcomed in our nation's cities. I was frankly told that I must take the child out of the city and not to return with the child again. I was told with a small amount of compassion that I would be welcomed again when I was no longer responsible for the child.  I prepare to leave live with conviction that I would remain loyal to my son and I would not abandon him. I prepared for permanent leave from my home and from the religious order. With reluctant confidence that I had adequately prepared myself and my son for a uncertain Journey I walked to the main gates and stood by the doorway pondering what I would make of Our Lives and by what conditions If Ever I might return to my former home. This part of my journey is still Unwritten... - Character details: Neutral good, loyal, honest, conservative in battle, prefers to avoid violence. Sometimes brutally honest. My character wishes to avoid combat as much as possible and prefers to use the least amount of force possible.

All,&nbsp; if you are looking for a Harn gamplay example, the guys at Blades and Blasters give a good preview (though they have either neglected a few rules or streamlined some).&nbsp;&nbsp; <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3Z58rdo1pA&amp;t=7329s" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3Z58rdo1pA&amp;t=7329s</a> Go to about 44min to watch the start of the combat.
Hello, I'd like to say that Harnmaster sounds quite interesting so I'd like to join. The only problem is that I only have time on Tuesdays.
I saw your post, i'd be interested. Let me know if you get enough people.
Thanks for the interest!&nbsp; PMd you a discord link.
I'd be interested if it ends up being Thursdays.
@Steve, thanks for the interest, but unfortunately the group consensus was TUE evenings at 8pm EST (we have at least one player thats PST).&nbsp; Please feel free to get in touch if things change for you. Still a small group with room to grow.
Hi Todd, I will not be able to play (at the moment), although I'd really like to since Harnmaster is my favourite system and Harn my favourite fantasy setting, but I have written a character sheet for it and since you are a Pro subscriber, you could use it. It really helped us streamline combat, skills, armour protection, and pretty much everything else. it is a work in progress but is very usable. If you are interested I can show you how it works and you can easily use it in your campaign. Let me know. Cheers, Fabio&nbsp;
Fabio, thanks for that.&nbsp; I am using one of the ones listed in the Roll20 repository.&nbsp; Its setup for 3rd ed which is what we are going to be using.&nbsp; Its listed as Harn 3.&nbsp; Is that yours?&nbsp; I am in the process of adding most of the attribute and combat macros to it but if you already have that done, I'd love to get a copy.
No, it is not mine. I used the listed sheet as merely a HTML canvas, but then I heavily modified it using sheet workers and the Roll20 API to do a lot more stuff behind the scenes... I use 3rd ed rules as well in my game, so you should find it compatible with your campaign. If you PM me your email, I can send you a zip with the required files. If you want to see it in action, I can quickly invite you in a game already existing to show you the features (and explain a bit of the abbreviations and other stuff).
Hey, I saw the post and this looked like it could be rather fun! My Tuesday evenings/nights are fairly open, so scheduling shouldn't be an issue.&nbsp; I've never used Harn before, but it sounds like something I'd be interested in, and if it is as easy to learn as you say, it shouldn't be a problem after a session 0, or if you happen to have some other time before the campaign you could walk me through it.&nbsp; My discord is RizaVortivask #3808, or you could contact me on the roll20 (but response time will be a lot slower). Send me a message whenever you're free!
Lost one, could use another...
You had sent me a link to check this post and it seems quite interesting. I'd love to learn more and join in, if I'm a good candidate that is. I sent you a PM if you would like to discuss.
I am interested, i play with another group on Sunday nights. I'm free Monday-Saturday I've played 3.5 and 5th, is 3rd different than 3.5?&nbsp;

I really appreciate all the interest.&nbsp; We have a full party and will no longer be recruiting.&nbsp; Thanks.
Hi Todd, we'll be closing this thread as you're no longer looking.
