There are other suggestions to add comprehensive/improved layer support, but this request is much simpler than that so I created a separate topic. I am suggesting a single layer that does not scroll or move with the rest of the map that is rendered over the top. Like a HUD or UI. After gaming for a couple years using VTTs I've found that playing with a traditional tabletop is actually holding back the options we have as a gaming interface. One of the things I've begun incorporating into my games is lobby rooms and UI overlays for our maps. These maps hold information about the campaign, adventure, current quest, party or individual players or characters. They may involve custom mechanics specific to a scenario, tokens, numbers, cards, etc. The problem is that many of these elements become designed to be visible at all times, regardless of where you are looking on the scenario/campaign/adventure/battle map. Example: On a vast sailing map with ships and islands you want your compass rose, wind direction. and available special actions to remain visible regardless of where you scroll or move your camera. Unfortunately this is not currently possible. If this is not less effort than the fully realized customizable layer system then this is not needed, but to me it seems like this layer already exists for rendering cards and dice, and just isn't accessible by the players/GM. Thoughts?
