[LFP][18+] Vampire Noire: The Masquerade in the Roaring 20's

The date is January 21st, 1921. The first World War is over. The veterans returning home to Prohibition-era Chicago have found immigrants from the Deep South and war-ravaged Europe have usurped their jobs, leading to race riots which leave hundreds dead. The Ku Klux Klan are over five million strong, with influence all over the USA, lynching whenever they please. The banishment of alcohol production has led to a drastic increase in power among street gangs, which begin to grow into the new force the FBI come to call organized crime. The Irish Mob and the Mafia leave the city's packed streets running with blood while smallpox and polio still regularly claim the lives of the young or infirm in the dirtiest city in America. It's a place of great opportunity and wealth, Chicago, but all these parasites and predators lurk in the shadows cast by the first skyscrapers in the world; they gorge themselves, knowing that all who go missing in this urban meat grinder will be forgotten and quickly replaced by another. You are one such replacement, your quick feet always trying to stay one step ahead of the gnashing teeth constantly snapping at your heels, waiting for you to fall in and be ground up like the bag of meat you are. Perhaps you think you know the dangers and are hopeful that you can win this race.  You think you can find yourself among the predators instead of running with the rest of the prey. There's just one danger you couldn't foresee... Information This is a Vampire: the Masquerade 20th Anniversary game. This will be a long-term chronicle. Due to mature themes, we seek mature players. Only players above the age of 18 should apply. We will use voice chat and possibly video. Make sure you have capable equipment which will not detract from the quality or immersion of the game. Sessions will be weekly on Saturday or Sunday (TBD). They will be 4-5 hours long and can end no later than 21:00 GMT / 4 PM EST. We will begin play as mortals. Character creation begins at the table with the group. Do not expect to be able to bring a pre-made character to this. There are currently 3 open slots. Process Potential players will undergo a series of casual interviews with the Storyteller and players. You will be expected to undertake other activities with the group during the screening process (gaming, watching movies, etc.). We aren't overly picky but we put a lot of effort into our games and we want to play with people we like and who show commitment. We're not in a huge hurry, so the player selection process might take 1-2 weeks unless there are obvious standouts. Post any questions you have about the game in this thread. (optional) Write me a PM here on Roll20 which includes some information about who you are, your tabletop experience, and your Discord username. Be sure to include the last 4 numbers after the hashtag. You will be contacted and a brief interview will be arranged over voice chat. You will meet the rest of the group through an array of other possible activities. There will be a wait period to provide maximum exposure to this LFG post, but you will be kept in the loop. During this time, you will be expected to read or refresh your knowledge of certain portions of the core rulebook. As soon as a decision is made, you will be informed if you are accepted, rejected, or placed on the waitlist. If you are placed on the waitlist, you can make a character with the group and may be contacted shortly after the game starts if someone proves to be unreliable. Disclaimer: I include all of this information only because the methods are a bit uncommon and some people fret when answers aren't immediately given. It's not as formal as it seems. When you run as many games for strangers as I have in my 15+ years of DMing, you have some bad experiences and develop a process.
Sent over a PM to express my interest, not sure if you're still seeking players in the like.
Ah, yes, thanks! I sent you a request on Discord. We are still seeking players. :)
Hey there, definitely interested! Pm me a discord invite if you're still taking applications. I'm interested in the application process, because I can think of some interesting concepts, and would like to know more about how characters are created and how much influence we have in our future characters.
I have a question. When will it be firmly decided whether or not the game will take place on Saturday or Sunday?

Hi Are you still looking for players? if you are I am definitely interested.
Patrick F. said: I have a question. When will it be firmly decided whether or not the game will take place on Saturday or Sunday? That will be decided with the group in the next few days, working out scheduling between new players and old. We're still recruiting for this game and another game set in Modern Nights in LA. The tentative time for the LA game is 11-15 GMT-5 on Saturdays. I can say that with 80% certainty. This may put the 1920's game on Sundays, time TBD, or earlier on Sundays, based on the timezones of the interested players. And for those curious, we are still recruiting. Basically, the story is that I wanted to play V20 and couldn't find a storyteller, so I started work on this 1920's game for my regular group. Then we found a storyteller working on an LA game and, given I haven't been a player in anything since 2012, our group switched priority to the new game. I'm using this thread to recruit the rest of the party for the 1920's game and to catch one or two players for the LA game. sir mordred said: I'm interested in the application process, because I can think of some interesting concepts, and would like to know more about how characters are created and how much influence we have in our future characters. For the 1920's game, characters are created with only their mortal past in mind. Basically, session zero has you make a mortal with no thoughts to the vampire world at all. This will be a game where it's possible that half of the starting group won't survive to see The Embrace. This will very much be a horror Chronicle, and the very last things that your character will ever feel are safe and assured of his future. That said, with decent luck, a savvy player can see beyond The Masquerade and start accruing favors in that world to have a say in which kind of Kindred he will become. To summarize, there will be no divination involved at character creation. All you can do is give your character the skills they need to survive in their world. From there, it's up to how you play, now how you write. :)

I must say that the response to this game has been truly overwhelming. I've received more applicants to this than to anything else I've ever posted in LFG. That said, I got an opportunity to be a player instead of a storyteller, which is something I haven't done in years. Due to scheduling conflicts, this game has been delayed indefinitely. I'm very sorry about that. There may be more news of this in the coming weeks. Thanks to everyone who applied! I apologize if you sent me a message and you didn't receive a reply. I'll try to comb through my inboxes in the coming days and update everyone. Good luck in your hunt for VtM!
I have just sent you a PM, thanks. :)
