About me: I have a few months of experience playing in 5e. Started playing Hoard of the Dragon Queen in late August (jumped in part way in) and last played a couple weeks ago, until my character was beaten to death by a dragon's tail. I have played a little bit of 5e, and even less 4e, under a different GM, right around the time that 5e was coming out. For some reason, my characters always seemed to die prematurely in that group. I took a stab - once - at running Lost Mine of Phandelver. It wasn't pretty but it could have gone worse. I am interested in getting my feet wet as a DM, but can never seem to find the right group dynamic. Even if I don't DM, I will be more than happy to help people with character creation. It's one of the coolest, and most fun, parts of the game, once you get the hang of things. In terms of availibility, I should be free most nights beginning at 8pm EST. My schedule is a bit weird right now, so it'll be easier to work out a common time and then settle on a day/night. The only night that I need to keep open - for now - is Sunday, since that's when my current group meets. If you need to get in touch with me, feel free to message me on here or via Discord (Mike B#1596). I look forward to "working" with you guys. Resource Note (Warning - it's long) Depending on what you want to play, D&D Beyond may require you to pay to "unlock" certain races and/or classes. In terms of classes: when you reach level 3, you choose from one of 2 (sometimes 3) basic career paths (I'm igmoring the options from supplements). DDB will only offer you whichever career path appears first in the Player's Handbook (PHB). For instance, a Barbarian can choose the Path of the Berserker or Path of the Totem Warrior. Because Berserker is listed first in PHB, that's the "free" option on DDB. So if you wanted to go Totem Warrior, you'd have to pay for access. fastcharactercreator.com gives you access to all of the PHB classes and their career paths. Meaning if you wanted to play a Totem Warrior Barbarian, you'd just go to the drop down tab, and find Barbarian (Totem Warrior) (or however they've listed it). The site also gives you access to all major, and most minor, playable races. It's a very plug-and-play resource, but that comes at the cost of being able to truly customize your character. If you want to roll up a character real fast, try this site. If you don't mind the array method of generating stats, then it's definitely worth a go (it does not allow point buy or 4d6/drop lowest). As with DDB, you're only shown info relevant to your current level. Ability score increases are done automatically. While I'm not a huge fan of this, but more than likely the site is picking what you would have picked. Overall, I'd say fastcharactercreator is a good tool, especially if you want to throw something together quickly.
