I love all aspects of 5e. I adore RP, character driven dialogue, and I don't think that RP and challenging encounters/powergaming are mutually exclusive. I come from a background of turn based tactical games set to the highest difficulty and really love min/maxing to overcome extremely tough challenges. The problem is, most RP oriented games have combat encounters that are generally easy or with DMs who pull punches to spare the PCs when they're in danger. Meanwhile, combat heavy games tend to attract a staunch sort of player who doesn't engage in much RP at all.
