How do my players utilize my purchases?

I have purchased the PHB and XGE. How do I ensure my players can use it for character generation should they choose? Any boxes I should click? I also have Volos and Mordenkainen...Can they use the info in their compendium too?

I believe you share those with a game in the game settings area, the same place you configure a character sheet. 

As far as I can tell, that covers adventure-specific compendiums, but I can't find a way to ensure PHB/XGE sharing for my players. I appreciate the help given, but I just cant tell.

I believe the PHB is tied into the charactermancer but I don't know anything about the XGE.

You cannot share individual compendiums - it is either all or nothing. So if you have compendium sharing enabled on the settings page (it shows the name of the games you have compendium sharing enabled in, not which compendiums are shared) then all of your compendium content should be shared. At this point, individual adventure modules don’t come with compendium content.
