[LFP] [D&D 5e] [US-EST] [Video] Starting Campaign Wednesdays, looking for 5-8 Players.

Hello my name is Josh and I’m looking to begin hosting/DMing an online D&D 5e campaign. The adventure will begin with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and will transition into Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage. I’m looking to gather between 5 and 8 adventurers. What to expect from the campaign as a whole: It will see adventurers from level 1 all the way to level 20 and will likely take over a year to compete. The first wing of the adventure (Dragon Heist) takes place in the bustling metropolis of Waterdeep and will feature the heaviest role play of the campaign, however Dungeon of the Mad Mage will feel more like a dungeon crawler, favoring combat encounters to social ones. If dungeon crawlers are not for you, this will not be a campaign you enjoy. What to expect from me as a DM: I’m still fairly new to DMing and have been hosting a pen-and-paper game for about 3 months now. Despite my “newness” I’m fairly confident as a DM and have really fallen into the role. I enjoy encouraging creative solutions and if you think outside the box or provide fantastic roleplay you will definately be rewarded with lower DCs or inspiration. Timeslot: Right now my plan is to run the campaign at 8PM-12AM EST Wednesday nights. I am considering running the campaign twice a week (either Sunday or Saturday nights at the same timeslot.) I realize that most players may not prefer twice a week and I will be consulting players on the subject. What I expect from PCs: Timeliness and Accountability: DnD is a commitment. If your schedule is chaotic and you may miss sessions with little warning, this is not your campaign. I understand that life happens, and DnD is not and should not be paramount in your life, but giving warning that you may not be able to attend really makes all the difference. If absence is habitual I may consider removing you from the group. Really, outside of emergencies, I cannot really think of a reason you cannot spend a minute to notify the DM you will not be attending a session. Voice and Video: I find that voice-only sessions can be alright, but having video can really step up the experience as it allows players to not only voice their characters but also express them. For this reason voice and video will be mandatory for this campaign. You don’t need a high quality camera, just a functioning one that can be interfaced with your personal computer. I understand if you may need some time to acquire one. Currently I plan on using Roll20 for voice and video functionality but I am looking into other options such as google hangouts. Acceptance and Kindness: While this is an 18+ group and mature language will be commonplace, I want to foster an environment of support and acceptance so I have a zero tolerance for bigotry. This includes homophobia, sexism, and racism aimed at your fellow players. That being said appropriately role played racism is a cornerstone of DnD so if your character hates elves because they wiped out his village, that’s fine. I intend on interviewing applicants 1-on-1 then once I have gathered a list of 8 players I will send out more information. To be considered for an interview please make a reply to this forum post and answer the following questions. Alternatively if you would rather the information not be public, send it in a private message to me. Either way, if you are selected for an interview I will send you a private message here on the forum. Name and Age. Note: mature language and themes Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before. Note: new and inexperienced players ARE welcome! Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why? If you are anxious to go ahead and create your character, here are the creation rules I am using for my campaign. Character creation and sheets will be handled on DnDBeyond. Character Creation: Permitted Sources: Core 3 (PHB/MM/DMG) Xanathar’s Guide to Everything Volo’s Guide to Monsters (Monster races allowed) Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide Unpermitted Sources: Homebrew, please don’t ask. Unearthed Arcana Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica (Magic the Gathering) Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberon Additional unpermitted races: Arakkoa Bugbear Winged Variant Teiflings Feats: If you elect to create a variant human, or at a later date decide to take a feat over an ability score improvement the following feats are not and will not be available. Magic Initiate (IMO this breaks down class identity too much) Lucky Other character creation notes: No duplicate classes within the group I am going to encourage (although I will likely bend on this) that there are no duplicate classes within the group. This encourages identity for each player and creates a more diverse role play environment. For these reasons classes will be first-come first-served based on the 1-on-1 interviews mentioned earlier. No evil PCs. Having evil tendencies or commitments is fine (such as a warlock’s patron conditions), but PCs must be overall good or neutral. This means no murder hobos. No “private” dice rolls. Stats will be rolled at session zero and will be using 4d6 drop low, or standard array. Any other dice determinations in character creation will also be handled at session zero (starting gold for example.) Your background shapes the world. The Sword Coast and the Underdark are established settings, but in our campaign they can be altered and bent to fit your background. Your background is how you will shape the story of the campaign. One of my favorite things to do as a DM is to incorporate PCs’ background’s into magic items, side quests, and NPCs. The more detail you put in, the more you can expect to get out.
Name and Age: Mark, 31 years, mature language and themes noted. Timezone: EST, forseeing no problems with the time slot Experience: I've been playing 3.5, Pathfinder, and 5e for 3 or 4 years now, and have been a GM myself for about 50% of that time. I get very into my characters and connect with them on a very deep level. Voice/Video requirement: It is not a problem at all! I am a streamer and am used to it, and would even be interested in streaming the game if permissable. I also have a Zoom subscription, which would allow the whole group high quality video chat for free. I appreciate the emphasis on commitment and reliability. I often find myself being the only consistently reliable attendee to games, and appreciate a group that shares that level of commitment.
Name and Age: Paige, 32, mature language and themes aren't a problem. Timezone: Mountain, and the time slot is good. I travel occasionally for work, but should only have a couple of Wednesdays a year that I might need to skip. I wouldn't be able to commit to a regular second night, and definitely not a weekend night, so if the other people you talk to are interested in that, I might not fit in and understand that. Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before. In recent history, I've played 4e and 5e off and on IRL and online, but have had difficulty finding a consistent group. I was playing pathfinder at a game store for a little while, but I didn't really care for the style (always different people and characters, it was always a higher level so they'd have me play a premade, no overarcing storylines). I played 3.5e with a regular group for a couple of years a decade ago. Mostly played in the Forgotten Realms setting, and it is my favorite. I've only DMed for one-offs, and only a couple of times. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? Voice is pretty much a necessity for gaming enjoyment, and I can get something set up for video.
Name and Age: Hi there! My name is Rob and I'm 34. Timezone: I'm in the EST timezone and a Wednesday night game fits perfectly as I have that day off and a late start on Thursday (so if we run late its not a problem). Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I have played D&D on and off since the 90's. I'm most experienced in 3.5 and am still learning 5th Edition. I have also GM'd before in and out of Roll20. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why? Voice/Video are not an issue. In fact, I like your take on the matter. As it happens I just got a fancier webcam for for FOIP and head-tracking in games and this will be a great opportunity to get familiar with it. A few things as an aside: I like the structure you are laying down for the game. Structure and ground rules help with the immersion for me. I value punctuality and live by the old military creed "If you're not 15 minutes early, you're late." I also appreciate people who understand that other people's time is valuable and I do my utmost to respect the time of others. I find D&D more enjoyable when it is played more realistically over the murder-hobo style and relish opportunities for roleplaying. I am naturally inclined to creative problem solving and like to find new or unexpected ways to think outside the box to overcome challenges in the game. I am vaguely familiar with the setting, less so with Waterdeep, but even then that was mostly in the 3.5 time period. I look forward to the "unexpected".
Greetings I'm Jeremy, I'm 23, and I think I'm pretty swell. I'm on the east coast, and your time works perfectly for me. I'm a student and I work almost full time, so the time you set up is like hitting a gold mine. I'm always off Wednesday so I won't have any problem consistently making that time.  I started out in 3.5, played mostly 4th and 5th, and GM'd 5th for a little bit (actually on Roll20 is where I got my GM start), so I'm pretty comfortable with roll playing. I have no problem with voice and video. That's about it. I look forward to hearing from you. If you have any additional questions for me feel free to DM me.
Greetings, my name is Kevin, I'm 28 and am comfortable with mature themes and ideas, being respectful and welcoming to all types of people. Im on the east coast as well so the time of game is great for me, as well as playing twice a week if that comes to be. Depending on when the game begins calendar wise that should be fine. I have over ten years experience with Dungeons and Dragons from both sides of the screen, and on roll 20 for some time now. I love problem solving and creatively tackling problems using outside the box thinking so I appreciate that from you as a dm. Im completely fine with all of your restrictions on character creation, and I usually prefer to discuss creation and class with my fellow PCs and DM before I decide anyway so that's perfect. Video and voice is no problem for me I would just have to buy a web cam, I'm sure I could find one no problem. I think the background you have set up for this game would suite me perfectly and am looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers.
Name and Age. Note: mature language and themes : AmishRambo(IRL Michael) and 21 years old(22 in april) Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot : I am in EST I foresee 0 problems in the immediate, near or far future for this timeslot Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before. Note: new and inexperienced players ARE welcome! : 4 years total spend in a eclectic assortment of systems, Pathfinder: 3 years GM'ed for a few months and as a player the total time, 5e:2 years, 8 months as a player, all time as a player, misc systems ranging from 6 to 10 months in play and GMing, these systems include, Shadow of the Demon Lord,Open Legend,Fallout PnP and reach of titan so I have played a few different systems and I have GMed before Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why? : no I have a good quality microphone(Blue Snowball) and a webcam with 720p live video quality with no issue using/showing either
Name and Age: Terry, 48 Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot: Arizona (Currently PST); No issues with the timeslot Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I've played a number of different systems (D&D, Star Wars, Star Trek, Shadowrun, M&M) over about 20-odd years. I have GM'd a couple of campaigns just for friends. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? Not a problem.
Hello, my name is Trevor, I'm 28 (just like my friend Kevin up there ^) and I am comfortable with mature themes/ideas/behaviors. I am EST as well, making the time/time zones a nonissue, and Wednesday nights would work perfectly. I could possibly do Saturdays as well, however I would not be able to do Sunday games unless they were midday. In terms of experience, I've only had about 2 years of experience with D&D, 1.5 of those years actually playing on both sides of the screen. I very much enjoy committing to characters (not in the detrimental "Well, my character would murderhobo because of X), and I also enjoy bouncing off of other PCs and NPCs in terms of RP. As for character creation restrictions, I totally understand them, as I use most of those rules in my own games!  And for voice/video, I definitely like seeing/having other people see me as we play as it does indeed help with acting out a character and I have the means for both readily available. Overall this sounds like a great opportunity :D
1. Name and Age: My name is Ronald, and I'm 30. Mature themes aren't a problem for me. 2. Timezone: CST, I don't forsee any hiccups in my scheduling currently. 3. Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I started on D&D 4e but have since expanded out in other systems, and I have not DM'ed before it isn't exactly my style. I'm a bit of a lore junkie I enjoy reading about settings for games I play in to help make characters that fit the world so to speak. Add some extra flavor to them. 4. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? Neither of these things are bothersome, I'm currently expecting to get a webcam next week at the latest. In fact, I rather like you were upfront about it. I had a game where the webcam thing was sprung up with prior notice and it became a turn off.
Name and Age: Callie. 22. Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot: EST. The timeslot mentioned would work just fine for me and I don't forsee anything that would make me miss a game beyond an emergency or rare event. Scheduling a second weekly session might be difficult, since I think I'll have regular commitments starting up weekend nights, but the first one definitely works! Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I've been playing DnD 5e for about 2 years now, with a little bit of experience in Pathfinder, and have never GMd. I'd say that I have a pretty good handle on the rules of the game by now but I'm looking to fill out my experience more with classes/modules I haven't gotten the chance to try yet. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why?: I can't say I've played in a game that used webcams yet, but I'd be willing to give it a go. I have both a reliable mic and webcam.
Name and Age. Angel, and I am 23. Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot: I am in the EST time zone, so this is not a problem at all. Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I have about 3 years of tabletop rpg experience, mostly DnD 5e. and Pathfinder. I have never GMd before, but I have thought about it more than a few times. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why? No it is not an issue at all. I have a good mic and webcam.
Name and Age. Cameron, age 32 Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot: I am EST and this timeslot is totally fine with me. Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before. I have 24 years of tabletop experience as both a player and DM. I've DM'd several campaigns both personal games and as an RPGA judge at conventions. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you? If so, why? I'm fine with both. I just have a really bad lighting situation so it might be hard to see my face at times.
Name and Age: Akinorus, Age 26 Timezone and whether or not you foresee problems with the timeslot: PST. If you would be interested in me, I do come with one tiny hang up. My normal work shift is from 12-9 pm. But sometimes I also have Wed. nights off. It is something out of my control sadly since work is work. However, if you would be willing to start at 9, I can run home and be on and joining within 10 mins since I live right by my work. If this is a problem, I understand. I will also note that I am more than happy to play twice a week, Sunday being my day of choice since Saturdays are a 50/50 chance I work until either 8 pm or 10 pm. Experience as a player and whether or not you have been a GM before: I have been a DM for a good handful of years now. Being one, I will say I do own the books for these campaigns. I have NOT played them or read them in hopes of experiencing their story first hand first. Is the voice/video requirement problematic for you?: I have no issue with it. I will say my camera is shit since it's the eye toy from a Playstation 2. But it does work.
