So, I mean... how long is this going to take? (Middle mouse button panning still broken.)

This might sound like a rhetorical question, but I don't mean it as such: Are you guys serious? This is a pretty crappy problem to still have, well over a year later. It makes drawing dynamic lighting lines excessively frustrating, as the way I used to do it, a year and a half ago, was to draw the line, pan with the middle mouse button, and keep drawing. Now I have to mouse over the bars on the bottom and right side of the screen and scroll the map in the direction I want it to go. I'm not exaggerating when I say it more than doubled how long it takes me to set up dynamic lighting for maps. Can I get a more reasonable response to this? Some sense of urgency or interest in the problem? Who is "The Chrome Team" spoken of in days of yore? This sucks, guys. Also, in related news, I just watched a youtube video about FoundryVTT. Looks pretty great. I bet their middle mouse button panning works, you know?

I am unable to reproduce this behavior. I can pan up and down with the middle mouse wheel, and left right while holding down the shift key. Have you tested with both supported browsers and with an alternate mouse? Turned off all extensions?
Yeah man. Did all that. Check the thread I linked. It was verified as a problem by Roll20's people, and then nothing was done.

I did read the thread. There are two issues reported, scroll wheel panning, and panning "with the right click when you're selected on a tool, like drawing dynamic lighting". Also, you listed your extensions, but did not actually state they had been turned off. Just trying to be thorough. The scroll wheel panning issue I cannot reproduce, it is possible that the dev team was not able to do so either. I couldn't really decipher if a ticket was being opened to investigate, or if there was an in-thread acknowledgment of the reproducibility of the bug and a ticket was being opened to fix an actual issue. It was unclear. I do note that the dev in the thread believed at least one of the issues to have been caused by an update to Chrome that they could not get around. As for the right-click panning while on a different tool issue: I'm unsure if that was ever the behavior. I mean you can't do it, but have you ever been able to? Nevertheless, I agree that a statement from Roll20 would be helpful for clarification if nothing else. Note: I am not an employee of Roll20, just a motivated volunteer. I cannot speak for mods or dev team. By doing this triage, it can help speed things up for a dev when they are alerted.

Zwig said: Who is "The Chrome Team" spoken of in days of yore? The 'Chrome Team' would be the developers for the Chrome web browser, rather than a name for a subset of Roll20 developers.

Just to add another data point, I can scroll left right while holding down shift not only with the middle wheel, but with the two finger scrolling gesture of my touchpad. It doesn't matter which tool I have selected. Are any other users unable to scroll left-right?
I have the same problem as Zwig – for about the same time-frame. To clarify, I am able to use the scroll wheel as you, keithcurtis, describe – BUT, this is not the issue. It is pushing in the third mouse button and click/holding it that no longer works in Chrome for me. About a year or so ago I could click the third mouse button (click/hold down the mouse wheel); whether click and release or click and hold; then pan around the tabletop (not requiring me to use the shift key). Since about a year or so ago this only works for me in Firefox, it does not work in Chrome. Roll20 overall works better for me in Chrome, but this is one issue that is quite annoying. Mostly it is a problem because I am using a laptop which sets on a desk and the keyboard is not easily within reach – so that click and pan was sooooo useful! Thanks to Zwig for bringing it up; thanks to keithcurtis for addressing it promptly. Hope I made the issue clear – I've got a hell of a cold and little sleep the last week (I should be in bed – not typing on a forum! No chance! Lol) Hopefully it gets remedied someday – I really miss this function in Chrome! Thanks everyone – happy gaming!
Hi Everyone, It was believed this issue may have been resolved in the most recent Chrome update-- if you are fully up to date then this may not be the case. This is an issue we submitted directly to the Google Chrome team for resolution since a band-aid fix from us in the interim would not provide identical functionality and potentially conflict with a Chrome update that does fix the problem. Ultimately, the full resolution of this problem is out of our hands. We understand the loss of this functionality is frustrating (I can definitely sympathize!) and we continue to monitor Google's notes for fixes in this area. In the meantime, we do have an internal panning tool via right-click while using the drawing/select tools.

Thanks, Drespar!
Thank you for the info Drespar - really appreciate it! My Chrome is up to date and still the issue persists. Such is life! Hopefully google fixes it someday soon! Good gaming all...
Lots of responses, nice to see. Drespar, no dice on my end I'm afraid... if this issue was resolved in the latest Chrome update, then I, like W.C. Austin, am one of the 'lucky few' who are still having the same issue. Guess the chrome team didn't quite figure it all out yet. Maybe another year... Thanks for the responses. Thanks for trying to help, Keith. Problem persists for me, but at least it's not somehow getting worse, I guess.
Oh also, by the way... the whole "right click and drag thing" doesn't work when you have a tool selected. Like the polygon line drawing tool when drawing dynamic lighting. Which has been my entire point all along, really.
