The people of Alte have always been tumultuous, power shifting from one country to the next at the drop of a hat. Its a continent that forces you to learn the word coup from a very early age, where a single kingdom hasnt held power for more than 5 years. Of course, that record was meant to be broken. 37 years ago, the Northern nations plotted to overthrow Gladin, the Gilded Emperor at his sons Birth Festival. The Wise Seat of Mazhas, the Elders of Esrif and the Hidden Syndicates of Charris bode their time in the shadow of the Gilded Emperor on his proudest day, and as he addressed his adoring public, unveiling to them their next ruler before the eyes of the gods, Mazhasian Assassins led by Wise Man Orga made their move. 250,000 people looked on in horror as the most beloved ruler was killed brutally, the Syndicate brutes mowing down members of his extended family, and Orga himself drawing his blade on the young would-be emperor. Before he could strike, however, the child disappeared in a billowing pillar of smoke and flame, the Gilded Emperor weaving one last spell to usher his child to freedom. The three nations have ruled Northern Alteran Lands for 37 years, housing much of the continents wealth, land and power. Their bloody betrayal has earned their faction the title of the Red Hegemony, a name they have embraced with gumption. Their rule is not uncontested, however. While attempting to tame the wildlands to the south, the Red Hegemony incited rebellion against their tyrannical rule. After an incursion into a small fishing village north of the Eldesbrekke, Hegemony soldiers murdered the husband and child of Sarin Dofta, a former Gilded Guard of the Emperor. In a frenzied rage, she slew their battalion, repelled the Eldesbrekke incursion, and mourned the loss of her family. After rallying the people of the Eldesbrekke, she began rampaging through neutral land in Yofta, causing destruction to Hegemony and Unnaligned forces along the way. Her destructive force of nature is referred to frightfully and in hushed tones as the Blue Fugue. They claim to be opposed to the tyranny of the Hegemony, but some claim that as its leader, bereft of her family, Sarin is a bloodthirsty brute, searching only for death and blood, leaving a wave of destruction in her wake. There are those who exist in neither Hegemonic of Fugue states. The Unnaligned comprise of the Nomadic people of Jindri, The Yoftan Merchants Association, the Ounani Chorus and the Private republic of Podon. Their future is still undecided, but is yours? Do you stand with the largest empire Alte has ever seen? Do you wage war with the rebels that oppose them? Or do you find peace among the private people in the world, opting not to fight, but to one day see an end to the endless war of Alte? That, dear friends, is entirely up to you.
