Lookup and Modify Stats by Name

To enter a stat name into a function, type ?{Stat Name} and a prompt will pop up. To look up a stat name of a selected token, type @{selected|Stat Name}. But what if I wanted to look up a stat name for a token? Specifically, can I type a stat name into a modifier box and have it return that stat number? I tried the following: @{selected|?{Stat Name}} but I am apparently not allowed to put one function inside of another. Any ideas?
The way the Macro system is parsed you can't use a queried value within a function call. It comes up frequently in the forums; you can't use queries to call attribute names. You could do it with the API which, as a Mentor, you have access to.
