[LFG] Need guidance! New player

First disclaimer; I've never played a D&D game, I know just about nothing! I don't know if I should be posting this here, but I don't really know where else. Have been interested in D&D for quite some time but never sat down and looked into it, or had any friends that played or could help me. I'd like to find someone, or a group, to help me get on my feet and learn the basics and all that jazz! I'm a quick learner so it won't be too big of a task to take on, but I am a little bit dense sometimes so please be patient with me. *Even if you don't want to directly teach me, any links/tips/comments are appreciated, I know just about NOTHING, so a complete run down would be amazing. My schedule is very flexible so times are usually not a problem for me. Thank you all for taking a look, hope to join the fun soon!
Welcome to the addiction. I'd suggest you check out a game on YouTube. Watch to see what it's like. Roll20 presents has a few good ones. That will expose you to both the concept and the mechanics. Also pick up a copy of the player's handbook. That way you have a reference and can sorta get a feel. After that, find a newbie friendly game and enjoy.
I would be happy to have you join my group I sent you a dm
Me too Heckaroo. Always been fascinated by D&D. Wanting to learn the basics and get a feel for it. My son 12 going on 13, has shown some interest, so have a couple of family friends. So hopefully in the future we can start to play as a group. I’ll check out Roll20 on YouTube. I’ve tried looking on YouTube in the past, there’s tons of content to the point of overwhelmingness. Will also grab a copy of the players handbook.
My game is looking for a player and I am totally cool with taking on a "new" player. Good luck! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/152704/spring-madness

If you happen to look for a pick-up game on Sunday evenings, you *might* find more than one listing for campaigns that suit your needs. I’d be more specific, but I don’t want to run afoul of posting rules.
I am running Mazes & Minotaurs , a free RPG based on the idea of role-playing emerging from ancient world miniatures war-gaming instead of medieval miniatures war-gaming. The result is an old-school D&Dish rules set with a classical base to the chaotic blend of various flavors. It's simpler than modern D&D, so not a bad intro to the hobby (it is also free, which makes it a cheap intro). The current adventuring is forest exploration. A variety of pre-generated characters will be available, with just enough background to provide a motive for being there. If you keep playing (and the character survives), you can develop additional background and character as we go along. If this sounds like something you might be interested, the game is to be found at: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/100381/time-of-heroes-original-mazes-and-minotaurs
Hello Heckaroo, I am trying to get a campaign going that would be for beginners to go though the module "Lost Mine of Phandelver". If you are interested, you can check out the post: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/7359948/lfp-d-and-d5e-cst-lost-mines-of-phandelver-great-beginning-campaign-for-those-wanting-to-learn-how-to-play-d-and-d
