[LFP] [D&D5e] [CST] Lost Mines of Phandelver- Great beginning campaign for those wanting to learn how to play D&D!!!!

Okay, so this is a general interest check to see if there are any interested individuals who would still like to play "Lost Mines of Phandelver". I know that it is a campaign module that has been out for awhile, but it is still a great starting point for those who want to learn how to get started in this wonderful craft/hobby known as tabletop roleplay. I have been DMing for a little over a year now, which I still consider as being fairly new, and absolutely love narrating and guiding my players through a story together. I have seen a lot of interest on the community forum board of those looking for games for "newbies". We all have to start somewhere. So, long story short, I would like to provide a game for those few individuals who would really want to give D&D a try. Here is my gaming availability: Sessions would be on Saturday evenings (8pm CST??) and would go for about 2-3 hours. I want to keep my sessions somewhat short, especially for those just starting out! There will be a session 0 before we start out with the campaign. All this means is that I will be sitting down with each player individually to work on a character and just talk about starting this adventure. So, if this sounds like something that you would like to join please reply to the post below. I am looking for 4-5 players and is not limited to just "newbies"/"noobs". This is a game for anyone who would like to join and have a good time together! We will be using Discord for voice and Roll20 for everything else. Please respond below with: 1. Name/Age 2. D&D experience, if any: 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D? Just give me a brief idea of what brought you to look for a game here on Roll20 (Critical Role, Aquisitions Inc, Youtube, friends, general curiousity, etc) 4. Are you a team player? D&D is a COOPERATIVE game. This is not an individual out for glory kill 'em all kind of game. Please don't come into this with the video gamer mindset that there is a "winning" to this game. 5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM? As the DM, I expect my players to respect the other individuals that they are playing with. I definitely do not know every single rule by heart, but feel that I can make a fair ruling on the fly if needed. That being said, I do not want rules lawyers running the game and distracting from those wanting to learn. If you have questions or comments about something that happened within the game sessions, then write it down and we can talk about it AFTER the session has ended. All this does is slow things down and creates confusion within the game. Please take a little time and read the basic rules to play. You can get these online and will provide you will a general idea on how to play. Once you decide that you want to continue playing D&D, you can always invest in your very own copy of the player's handbook. Okay, I think that will get us going. Thanks for taking the time to look at my posting and I hope that I can provide the start to your tabletop journey!

Hello Brian :) I am interrested in joining your game! My name is André, i am 28 years old and i am from germany. By the way, english is not my main language and would be a thing to be considered. But i could work it into my character, like someone who cant speak Common realy well and is from far away :D I understand pretty much everything with some exceptions but have to communicate in simpler form. I dont have much DnD experience, but i played alot of other roleplaying games (via online chat) and have read allready a big portion of the rules and watched alot of youtube videos. I want to play DnD because i love good and interesting fantasy stories and with this game, u can create your own, be a part of it and share it with others. i think that is awesome and i would like to make this experience :) To play with others is a maingoal for me at DnD and is a great chance to see how others think and play. I would consider myself as a teamplayer and like to support others, but also learn from them. I am often times the good conscience of the group and play a supporting class like a cleric to clear the way for the MVPs ;D But the gm is part of the team too and i respect also his decisions. If my charater looses an arm, then he messed something up, not the gm. The funpart is to live with every consequences. I expect from you as a gm that you create a world where we sink in and have a lot of fun, in what way ever. You dont need to be perfect or know everything in the rules. It be can be even more fun and be interesting if you improvise after a failure or 2 :) i hope i have given a small picture of myself. If you have any more questions just write me peace out
Thanks for your reply, Andre.
1. Name/Age: Jasper/19 2. D&D experience, if any: Zero. 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D?: I see posts about it on reddit talking about crazy adventures and great memories to look back on. I watch tons of youtube videos but have never gotten a group together to play. I am entirely new to actually playing and have a small idea of what goes on within the games. 4. Are you a team player?: I do what is needed for the team. Seeing as this is my first game ever, I would especially try not to mess things up. 5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM? :  I expect a DM to provide a flowing experience to immerse the players within the adventure. Not only should the DM be fair, but occasionally throw something in to keep players on their toes. Also, a DM should also be a coach to some players that may be confused and try to provide necessary information/materials to their players to help them create an experience for everyone.
1. Name/Age: Brett/31 2. D&D experience, if any: Plenty! I've been playing for a few years, mostly on Roll20, but I also DM a game in real life. 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D? Just give me a brief idea of what brought you to look for a game here on Roll20? I've been using Roll20 for a while, and this is where I found the other group that I play with on a regular basis. 4. Are you a team player? You bet! It's a team game, and isn't nearly as fun when it's just a bunch of showboats trying to get loot. Makes for a better experience when everybody gets a little time to shine. 5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM? Honestly, it's a tough gig, so just do your best. Try to be fair, and be open to communicating with your players.
Thank you Jasper and Brett for your interest in this game. I will be getting with everyone individually very soon! If you have any questions in the mean time, you can PM me.

Hello My Name is Nicholas  I'm 17 years old and ive always wanted to play D&D but because of personal reasons and the town I live in, I've never been able to play  as for experience with Co-op games I have hosted a couple RPs on my discord server but I have never hosted a D&D game that being said I love cooperative Games and I have been searching for a D&D campaign to join  I am very new to roll 20 and I have yet to join session so please don't get mad if I get confused about a system or something as for what I expect out of a DM I have no idea BTW my Discord Tag is [removed by mod]
Hello Brian, hope you're doing well. 1) My name is Joshua Graham and I am 29 years old. 2) I do have a wee bit of experience. I've been a life long gamer type of most sorts, especially fond if RPG and adventure type games. Particular to this conversation though, Magic: The Gathering and other TCG's back in the day as well as assorted random.other table top/board games over time. I tried my hand a bit at D&D a few years ago and recently have gotten in to it again with my wife and close friend (Currently I'm involved in an Out of the Abyss campaign as a player and am reading up on the Ravnica 5e information hoping to try my hand at DMing in the not too distant future.) 3) Why D&D? Cause it's a blast and I've enjoyed everything I've done with it far. I'm trying to learn more before I step in to the roll of DM for my own group eventually, so I'm hoping to get a better understanding of how to play as a player and as a DM. I came on to Roll20 trying to find a way to maintain my group as distance is going to soon become a major factor in our sessions, so I'd like to learn how to effectively use Roll20 to maintain our play group and gain more experience with other players as well.  4) In D&D and other party oriented games, absolutely I strive to be a team player. I try to play any game in a fashion that adds to the enjoyment of the game for both the DM and the other players as well rather than strictly optimising and min/maxing my builds. I'm the type of player that I don't really care for straight up arguing with the DM or other players, I'd rather keep the game going in a smooth fashion and have fun instead playing rules lawyer over minor details. I do no refer my.other players to be involved and active.with the game as qell, as it makes the game that much more fun when we can all work.together to save the day rather than chasing one shot ideas to try and break the game. The way I see it, the DM is telling us a story and it's up to us as players to give it life.  5) As for what I expect from the DM, I expect my DM to be fair and reasonable with their game. I do respect the DM's discretion is law, but I do also believe that we as players have the right to (respectfully) question if we are unsure or if something doesn't seem to make sense. In my experience, many games can quickly turn in to "DM vs the players," and then it's no fun for anyone at that point. DMing can be frustrating and difficult in it's own right, and I feel like not enough people understand that, so I try to work with the DM rather than against the DM for everyone to have fun. Thanks for taking the time to read all this if you made it this far. Hopefully we can all click together and make something work here. If not, I wish y'all well in your gaming and good luck!
Thanks Nick and Joshua for responding. I will be getting with everyone individually to make sure that everyone is going to make a good match for the campaign. I will be creating a Discord channel specifically for this campaign. Thanks all!
Hello. 1. I'm Artymis. Arty or Art, if you'd like. I'm 25. 2. Experience is none. I'm completely new and hoping to try it out. 3. Why I want to play? I looks like a lot of fun and I'm a big lover of RPGs and MMOs. I thought that maybe this could also be a good way to maybe make some new friends along the way. I can be anxious around new people, especially large groups, and thought this could be a way to maybe overcome some of that. To get gaming friends. 4. Team player? Absolutely, especially if I have a party/guild of my own. Normally I'm a solo player but help out others in game if available to do so. 5. I don't really know what it expect out of a DM. All of the ones I've seen (only two) had been super fun and one was really loose with the rules, especially if he thought that some else would be more fun than what the rules said. Something like that would be great but however you do it is cool. I'm a learn by doing kind of person. I'll read what I'm supposed to but I would still like and hope for some help with things when I forget or get confused.
Thank you Artymis for responding!
1. Name/Age: Cobi, 24 2. D&D experience, if any: I have no experience 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D?: I've always been interested, but recently I've started looking into D&D things like races and classes and got  the urge to try it. So I looked around to see if I could find a online game and I found Roll20.  4. Are you a team player?: I do like to think I am a team player. I definitely won't charge head first into a battle I do not understand. I will act as a team player and play the roll that my character fits. 5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM? : What I expect out of a DM is, well to be honest I don't know. DM's tell the story and narrate the battles. I don't expect a DM to narrate every swing of a sword, but Narrate deaths or important attacks, like a push or pull into a pit. I don't know. I'm just looking for my first experience.
1. Name/Age: Mariella, 19 2. D&D experience, if any: Two sessions with a nice group under my belt, will continue to play with them every Wednesday. Decent basic knowledge but not too much entirely! 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D?: A friend told me about roll20 and got me interested, I posted on the forums, some nice people helped me out and I found a group and now I'm excited to possibly find another as well! 4. Are you a team player?: Of course, I get along with people pretty well and love to get to know people while having fun with them. 5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM?: Patience! I can be a little dense sometimes, and may ask a silly question or two, nothing bombarding but sometimes a "Where do I go to roll that again?". I don't know anything else, I'm just grateful to have someone DM for me and a group of people while we figure things out!
1. Warren, 26 2.  ~10 years between different editions. 3. I got into DnD about 10 years ago because my friend group and I were super into the SciFi/ Fantasy genre and played a lot of warhammer. We split the cost of the beginners kit at Borders.  4. Absolutely, I have played with Min/Max DMs and it gets old I am happy to be able to just get into the story. 5. I expect a DM that allows for a more organic experience and won't railroad the party into combat or other situations. I like being able to play without having the parties face being kicked in every session. I would also hope that short modules like this will lead into a group that can progress together.
1. Name/Age: James, I am 29 years old 2. D&D experience, if any: started playing 5e on roll20 about a year ago now, still learning new stuff about the rules every day. 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D? Just give me a brief idea of what brought you to look for a game here on Roll20 (Critical Role, Aquisitions Inc, Youtube, friends, general curiousity, etc): I heard about roll20 though watching team four star D&D game and they mentioned roll20 and I was like I CAN PLAY ONLINE FOR FREE!? I HAVEN'T PLAYED IN LIKE 13 YEARS THIS IS GOING TO BE DOPE! 4. Are you a team player? D&D is a COOPERATIVE game. This is not an individual out for glory kill 'em all kind of game. Please don't come into this with the video gamer mindset that there is a "winning" to this game . I try to be a team player and help others in any way I can, though I have had DMs yell at me for trying to use my free action in combat to ask for help/help others by saying "there is a dude behind you, its doesn't like fire" and so on >.>....I had alot of bad GMs on roll20 lol 5. I just want the DM to run a fair game, I wouldn't say I am a rule lawyer but when something like, a creature uses two actions in a row and a player goes down because of it or a DM telling a player they can do what they 100% can, like a goblin using there bonus action to hide, I will speak up but will not argue the ruling of the DM if they choose to keep the events that happened they way they did. Okay, I think that will get us going. Thanks for taking the time to look at my posting and I hope that I can provide the start to your tabletop journey!
Hi, I'm super late but I still really want to send an application.  1. Name/Age:  I'm Sherry (she/her) and I'm 27. 2. D&D experience, if any:  None. I'm trying to get behind the rules, classes and races right now. It's fun! 3. Why do you want to try playing D&D?  I've been a huge fan of the Dragon Age-series for a few years now. That brought me to the medieval setting. I also enjoy coming up with characters so that combined brought me to D&D. :)  4. Are you a team player?  Absolutely. I've never played before but this is a Game and overall I hope that I can find a good experience where we equally challenge each other and help each other out. As a beginner I'd especially try not to step on anyones toes and I'm always open for constructive criticism so I can improve. I'm here to have a good time and make new friends!  5. What do you expect out of a DM/GM?  I'm quite picky! This might be my first experience but I've heard a few horror-stories where D&D-Games went down the drain and weren't enjoyable for some Players.  So I'm being blunt here: I'm looking for a fair, committed and reliable DM . I need to be able to voice my worries and a DM who's willing to answer my questions and reassure me. I want mutual respect and an open mind between all Players (which includes the DM). Okay, I think that's it. Thanks for this opportunity!
1. Name/Age: Shawn/31 2. D&D experience: My only experience is watching hours of Twitch and YouTube campaigns. I have a basic understanding of combat, movement, character sheet, rests, and little basics like that. I also understand character immersion, roleplay, and working with an ensemble of characters from experiences outside of D&D. 3. Why I want to try playing D&D: Having heard of D&D, but never playing, I watched a Twitch stream of it randomly and got hooked. I am a writer and storyteller so I love the idea of character creating and roleplaying. That mixed with being a long time fan of fantasy games on video game consoles makes me feel like the blend of turn based combat and immersive roleplay will be enjoyable for me. 4. Am I a team player: Yes. I did mention video games in my last answer, but I won't be bringing that "video gamer mindset" you mentioned in your original post. This game is meant to be social and interactive, and I care not to make it a spotlight on me type environment where i must prevail and be kept alive to give my character story. The story is bigger than me, I am a part of the story, and I am well aware that could mean death. What I would bring to my team is my character, not me. If my character is lawful good, I will use that as my motivation in my actions and dialogue.  5. What do I expect out of a DM/GM: Respect for all of us that are playing the game. Understanding of my newness to the game. Slight guidance and hints while away from the actual game to help prep me for being as ready and less of a slow down on game day as possible. I don't mind doing the reading and homework needed as long as I am directed to the best places to start. This is all with an assumed obvious expectation of the DM/GM knowing more than me and what is needed for the campaign they choose to run. The best of luck on your campaign, even if I don't have the chance to make it in.
Thank you to all that have applied and shown interest in this campaign. I am now closing this post to any further applicants. Thank you.
Name: Ian Age: 26 DnD Experience: Fairly new. ~50 hours played in person, only 2-4 hours played on Roll20. I have only ever played a rogue as well, so new to other classes. Why I want to try and play DnD: I love the roleplay aspect the most and the interaction between individual player, player characters, and the larger story. Of course, also the fun interaction with RNG! Am I a team player: Yes, I would like to think I am. I do try and be my own individual in relation to the group, and propose contradictory opinions and viewpoints to the party to stimulate roleplay. A party of group-think and going with whatever is boring to me! What do I expect out of a DM: I expect a lot of normal things one would expect, knowledge of the game, respect, thinking on the fly, etc. More specifically, I expect a DM to not play favorites. I have been in campaigns where a DM picked their favorite character in a party and non-coincidentally made that person get whatever they seemingly wanted, while other players were punished. I also appreciate when a DM adequately punishes players for the decisions they make. I've had campaigns where the DM essentially made any decision players made "work out" which stifled strategy since the DM didn't want us to seemingly struggle. I don't mind my character dying, challenge us in roleplay and in combat!  I have discord, and am flexible with times. I also have many different character concepts. I just read you closed the thread, but hopefully I can squeak in. I appreciate any consideration for the campaign!
