Hey, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but if I purchase the D&D Players Handbook and Xanathar's Guide to Everything in the marketplace, do I actually get anything readable with chapters and such as per the normal book or is it all just choices in the menu of the compendium? Thanks!

Everything is available in the in game compendium, and you can also read it in a more chapterized format outside the game. You can find this section under the Tools menu item at the top navigation bar: Tools -> Compendium
