Using Roll20 on a video gaming table

I have a 42 inch HDMI monitor built into a gaming table and am thinking of using Roll20 to power my game. I was planning on using just one laptop with the dual screen option turned on. One screen being the DM screen on the laptop and the player screen on the table monitor. Logging into Roll20 twice once for the DM screen and once for the player screen. Is anyone doing this and if so how is it working out for you? Dave

Hi Dave. There has been many people that use Roll20 over the years on their gaming table. There is a wiki page about it also: https://wiki.roll20.net/Using_Roll20_while_Playing_In-Person
Thanks in particular I was interested if anyone had used just one PC to do both the GM and player logins. Sending the player login to a second screen. That's what I plan on using and was wondering if anyone else had already done that. Thanks! Dave

Then, while in the game, right-click the browser tab and select "Duplicate". Once the second tab has loaded, go to the Roll20 settings tab and click the "Rejoin As Player" button. Then send that tab over to the TV. Then players can user their own computers to control their characters while seeing the "On the table" view on the TV. They can also use the Roll20 mobile app to just access their character sheets.
I use two login system myself. I open up a guest or incognito window and log in with a dummy account I created. Then I cast the observer's tab to my tabletop. I like the two account system because I use the Observer API to limit player view during combat.
Currently I'm using the single login system for my gaming table with my second tab set to "Rejoin As Player". One thing I can't get to work is the ping on the map. When I ping on my GM screen nothing pings on the player screen. Is this because I'm using a single login? Dave

Easy enough to test. Set up a dummy account and invite it to the game. Log that one in in a private browsing window, just to be certain a refresh doen't mess up the login.
I have a follow-up gaming table question. Do you use the dynamic lighting available in roll20? I've been thinking about using that with and moving tokens around to simulate the characters in the dungeon even though my players don't actually use roll20 since they are live at the table. Thanks for your help! You might need to set the characters up to share permissions so that they share vision. It can lead to players seeing more than they might normally see and lighting that is too bright (shared light multiplies), but that's probably the best solution without the API.
