Free Alternative to Dynamic Lighting?

Hey, I have a free account and don't want to get a premium or pro account, but I really want sight and lighting in my d&d 5e campaign. Can someone make a free alternative to dynamic lighting?

Your best bet is creative use of regular fog of war.

Even if someone recreates something akin to dynamic lighting (not sure if even possible with the API, I'm not familiar with it), it won't help you any. You need a Pro account to take advantage of the API.
Thank you aisforanagrams . keithcurtis , what do you mean by "creative use"? The only option for free players is how dark it is.

By "creative use" I mean revealing as you go. I guess it's not particularly creative. Perhaps "judicious use"? "liberal use"? What I mean is that the only way to hide and reveal areas of the map without Plus or Pro, is either Fog of War, or dropping rooms on the map as you go. Fog of War would be much easier. There is no free equivalent to Dynamic Lighting. My only advice would be if you are building your own maps, try to design them so that they can be revealed in rectangular chunks. It would be faster than odd room shapes.

There are map-pieces out there that share the same size; 9x9 or whatever the number is, there might even be some on the marketplace. With a little work you can create a nice looking dungeon with these on the gm-layer and reveal them when the players enter the piece. Other then that, go with Keith's suggestion above. Edit: Found some on the Marketplace: https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/2315/aarons-map-tiles-dungeons-and-tombs
Keith, I can't reveal certain areas without advanced fog of war, which is a premium feature. Ravenknight, I'll follow your suggestion.

You have access to regular Fog of War , which is what I was talking about. Advanced Fog of War is automatic, regular Fog of War is manual and far, far less demanding on your processor. It's also pretty foolproof, whereas Advanced Fog of War can be finicky.
I agree with Keith, I am a subscriber, yet in most cases I use regular Fog of War.
Thank you keithcurtis and Chris S. . There were some features of Fog Of War that I just didn't know about. This will come in handy.
I've moved this to the appropriate forum.
