Secret communication between team members

I am setting up a team battle. I want the members of one team to talk without the other team listening. The idea is to give each team member a name that starts with a color like blue. So one member of the Blue team would be Blue cleric , and another Blue wizard . Then the Blue team members can talk secretively through the chat box using the following text... /w blue (then the message...) Then only the Blue team members would see the message, and no one from the Red team would see it. When the Red team talks, they use the following text... /w red (then the message...) I have not tested this out. Will this work? Or is there another way to do it?
Make a character sheet with the team name and assign control of that character sheet to all the players on that team. They can then whisper to each other and only their team mates that way.
So then I would set up a character sheet with the simple name... Blue . Then assign that sheet to the Blue team members. Then they use the command in the chat box... /w blue (then the message...) Only the blue team members will see the message. Is that right?

Correct and make sure the gm is assigned to the sheets if he needs to monitor the whispers also.
Metrodude, the idea is they want to plot against the DM, I make it a point to leave the room and the end of an information session, say" I have to leave for a few minutes, carry on without me, I will be back in 15 minutes. This gives them a chance to talk privately, and I can make a cup of tea, a win win proposition.

This also works great for characters that share a language and want to talk to each other in the shared language so others cannot understand. For example: I have 2 Elves in one of my campaigns and I have created a sheet named "Elven Language" and added those 2 characters to the list of players that can edit the sheet. Now whenever they want to talk to each other in elven they just type /w Elven Language and they can carry on a conversation in private. They've set up macros that tell the rest of the group that "So-and-so begins talking in foreign language" so that everyone can see that the 2 elves are talking to one another, they just can't see what's being typed.
