The D&D 3.5 Character Sheets Need Some Major Work

The fact you have to make your own macros and ensure that they work for these sheets are ridiculous. For the average user, it is extremely difficult working with these 3.5 sheets. Like, why isn't the Power Attack feature and all that calculating stuff not automatically added? In 5th edition, it's sleek and simple. You roll and it rolls your attack, and then you click it, and it rolls the damage. In 3.5, it's asking like 6 different variants before it rolls EACH attack roll, then 3 different variants before it rolls EACH damage roll. It's extremely difficult for the average user to even know what it's talking about. It's horrible. We need a much sleeker, more simpler sheet for 3.5, much like 5th edition's beautiful look.

Keep in mind that the 5e sheet was made by Roll20 employees that were paid to do the work and turn out a very automated sheet.  Any sheet that doesn't say "by Roll20" like the sheet you are talking about was made by someone in the community (meaning that Roll20 is in no way connected to the sheet being created or maintained).  If you know how to implement the things you are talking about, then contact the sheet author and help make it happen. If you look the sheet up in the github repository, the author will be listed in a document for that sheet.

3.5e is notoriously complex and to cover all possibilities with a standard built in macro would be nigh on impossible... hence 5e’s advantage system.

Macro building can be as involved or as simple as you like and this community is always happy to help if you are struggling. While I’m sure there are updates that the 3.5e sheet would benefit from it doesn’t change the fact that Diana’s initial implementation takes the majority of the pain out of running a 3.5e game. Bear in mind that she made all macros easily editable, don’t like all the queries in your attacks? Remove the ones that don’t apply... it’s easy to do.

As already mentioned, the majority of sheets are community contributed and maintained so anything beyond sheet breaking updates shouldn’t be expected unless the author has the time, drive or need to update it.

Also, wrong forum... this will close after 30 days unless it gets 10+ votes, a mod may be kind and move this to the character sheet forum for you.

Hello Chandra,

I have moved your post to the Character Sheets & Compendium forum as it is not a Suggestion.

Just a reminder in addition to what has already been mentioned in this thread...

the majority of these sheets started out over 4+ years ago when there were far fewer options and features available to sheet authors.  Many sheets are created out of a labor of love by individuals that pour COUNTLESS hours into their sheets to accommodate requests from the community, bug fixes, and implementing increasingly complex features/changes that roll20 introduces monthly.  It's best to ask nicely, give your support/accolades, and encourage sheet authors to keep improving their sheets.  Cheers
