Hello there friends. As per the title of the post, my friend and I are looking for a new group to play with on Sundays , Mondays , or Tuesdays , any time from 12 PM PST on . We have a great deal of experience with D&D 3rd/3.5 and Pathfinder. We each have close to two decades of tabletop experience. Our preference is to play a Pathfinder 1st Edition game or D&D 5th Edition . We haven't actually played 5th Edition before, so we might be good candidates for a more newbie friendly game in that case. We have read the rules and, with our prior experience with other D&D/Pathfinder games, feel like we could get up to speed in fairly short order. Other systems and settings are fine to pitch to us, though we may need to be sold on it. What we really would like to find is a long term game with an emphasis on story--both for characters individually and over-arching for the campaign--and a slow enough pace to permit role play. We also tend to prefer APs over home brew, simply because APs tend to be better/easier to balance, though we will absolutely consider a home brew game if it is well fleshed out both in story and mechanics. Speaking of mechanics, we additionally would like a group that has a mind for the written mechanics of whichever system we're playing in. This isn't to say that there can't be home brewed rules, or that there can't be some wiggle room in interpretation on spells/abilities for cinematic appropriate scenes, but we simply want a stable rule set that people will adhere to. We've had some bad experiences in the past with players who get too 'creative' with their classes, creating their own archetypes/classes/races/feats/skills/etc. Home brewed rules or not, we just want to have something codified that we can reference and keep in our minds while playing. Essentially, we want both role-playing and game . Speaking for myself, I have no problems sharing a table with players who are new to a system--or even to tabletop in general. Mechanics can be learned over time. My only interest is that the story that we all create together collaboratively be immersive. So long as we all respect each other and are open to discussing any concerns we have, I feel there will be no issues. For this reason, I prefer that our group consist of adults. This one is a bit tougher to convey, but I'd also like the characters of our party to fit the general theme of whatever story we're trying to create together. Obviously there are exceptions and cases to be made, but, for example, making a Thrune loyalist character in Hell's Rebels may not work. Or making a heavily combat focused character for a political intrigue game. It's fine to go against the grain, and there are creative solutions and interesting stories to tell in such cases, but a player who chooses to go this route should be aware of the consequences of not fitting the narrative when making such a character. Both my friend and I are perfectly comfortable with dark and/or mature themes. Evil beings do evil things, and sometimes those things can make us uncomfortable, which is perfectly fine. All that matters is that it all fits the theme of whatever game we're in and isn't something highly disruptive. Our final request is that we all make time for a session zero with all players and GM present before committing to any game, so that we can all be on the same page with our characters, with the story, our expectations, etc. It's totally cool to do individual interviews first to see if people are the right fit, but I can't stress enough how valuable it is to have a session zero with all parties present and talking out of character prior to starting the game. That's it! Thank you to any who took the time to read my post. Please note that we are actually fairly flexible and that most of this post is preference. When in doubt, feel free to ask me--either by posting here or messaging me privately--and I will be happy to answer.
