In the compendium for D&D5e, the only background that is listed is the acolyte background. When I try to look for the other backgrounds in compendium, they are not listed on roll20.
Have you purchased anything on Roll20 which should be adding to your available compendiums? The SRD only consists of a limited 'taster' of the ruleset, and this is all Roll20 can provide unless you purchase rulebooks and the like through Roll20. Nothing is stopping you from manually typing things into the character sheet, if you have the resources from elsewhere.
