Fate Core Suggestion: Conditions from Fate System Toolkit

I'm going to be running an online game that uses predefined Conditions rather than Stress & Consequences. https://fate-srd.com/fate-system-toolkit/conditions Is this something someone would be willing to try to implement? Or, like, tutor me in implementing? It seems like a significant rewrite of the stress and consequences part of the sheet, so I have no idea whether it could be implemented as an option, or as a whole new sheet. Thanks! CRH

Hi CRH, It doesn't look like it would be that hard to add to the new Character sheet I have been creating. Should Conditions completely replace Consequences? Reading that link seems to suggest it would. When will you be wanting to start your game? Regards, MagooChris

The tricky part with Conditions is that every game using them might use different conditions, with different stress values. It might be worth implementing them as a repeating section that the user can configure (name each condition, set its stress value, and a box to check).

It's going to be at least a month before my game gets started. We're still hashing out the characters and setting (Victorian Era weirdness is the vague description). And some of my players want a finale to the Masks game I was running. I think it makes the most sense to completely replace Consequences but not Stress. When I played in a game with an EvilHat person that used the option, it replaced both, but that wouldn't feel right for all situations, especially since doing that removes some of the utility of Will and Physique in the default skill list. I agree with GiGis. More customizable is definitely better for something like this. Here is a screen shot of the game I played in that used it. I the the columns are an attractive look! This was for a Jedi. I will post one from another character in the same game with different ones to show how fun customization can be.

Would it be useful/interesting for thread viewers to see the full character sheets for this Fate Star Wars hack?

That is a bit different than what is in the SRD site. It is interesting that this isn't in any of the Fate rule books I have. I'm guessing the arrows means that particular Condition transitions onto the next one? Getting that last into a sheet will be a bit hard. As for the names, we could definitely have a section that populates a name per level, but the problem will be populating these across all sheets. It would be cool if you could link a resource to a resource list. The column version does look good, just not sure how I would rearrange the sheet to have it all on it's own. Let me fiddle for a bit and I give you some shots of what I have done.

The arrows (intended to indicate that you are required to take the less severe category and also heal the more severe category first) and the category (fleeting, sticky, lasting vs. current, lasting, terminal) are pretty different from the examples in the SRD, it's true. Name dropping confession time: I'm local to some EHP people and we occasionally play. This was a game Fred Hicks ran, the intent being to have a game we could play with the vaguest notion of how Fate worked, along with a pretty comprehensive character sheet. I think the arrows are unnecessary. GMs and players are perfectly capable of discussing how conditions should flow, and it seems like the code would be needlessly complicated without much value added. I hadn't even thought of a resource list that can be referenced. Does Roll20 even support that kind of thing? That's super strong for customizing without having someone do a lot of repeated work. I had just imagined the GM or players filling in column headers or labels or whatever. Thank you for being willing to work on this!

the idea is that the game can be played with a basic understanding of Fate and the sheets. It springs from the notion that FAE is just a version of Fate Core with some stripped down skills and rules. This is somewhere between FC and FAE in complexity.

So this isn't complete yet, and is purely based on the rules on the toolkit page first. I deviated slightly and the second checkbox is checked when healing, not the reverse. But how does this work for you? Editing: Usage:

I think that is great! Sorry for the delayed response. We're having a staycation, adopted some kittens, and have generally been AFK.
