Hello there, my name is Tim and I am recruiting people for a longterm sandbox adventure focused around the characters and their decisions. Who am I? As mentioned above, my name is Tim. I am a 26-year-old teacher(well, in 5 months I'll have my diploma) with a love for TTRPGS. I've been playing for a bit over half a decade at this point, most of it has been as a DM. I have played both IRL and online and my preference is definitely to play online. A couple of years ago I decided to try out paid DMing. I have since been a professional DM for many different groups and a multitude of different campaigns as well. Even though my younger self loved the notion of being paid to do what he loves, it has slowly but surely taken the must out of my will to play the game over the years. Now I stand at a crossroads where I must part with the professional style of DMing and go back to do it when I loved it the most, for free. Because the groups of my paid groups consist mainly of my close friends I have decided to not allow any of them into this game as it would force me to favor some over the others. Therefore I am instead writing this post, hoping to catch your interest and reel you into my amazing world. I have been working on this world since I started DMing and every single campaign that I've run has been run in this world, slowly but surely fleshing it out. What I love about TTRPGs is that it's a group of people collectively writing a book as they go. The emotions of both the characters and the players are what keeps everything tightly knit together and the amazing moments that come through sheer luck or careful planning are the key-stories of the book. What to expect from my game and world? I have always said to my players to expect a mix between Dark Souls and Skyrim. Dark Souls because of its difficulty and Skyrim due to the sandbox. I allow my players to run through the world, exploring what quests it is that they wish to whilst providing them with a multitude of plot hooks to choose from. One of the most important aspects of the story will always be the characters and their backstories. Whilst many of my players may stand and wonder what the fuck this mention in the book is, they will understand it X months later when they find the missing pieces of the puzzle. I play for the long run and love the development that both characters, player, and the world does over the course of a longterm campaign. In my world, you reap what you sow. What I mean with this is that I do not pull punches if you have done something stupid. If you were to piss off the most powerful noble in the county, then chances are that you may find yourself either assassinated, thrown in prison or simply hanged. If you on the other hand plan and execute something to near perfection I will always reward you plentifully. This would mean that if you were to for example disguise yourself as someone, then piss the noble off to frame said person and nobody catches on to your bluff, you will definitely see that person hanging in the gibbet the next day. The world I run is biological. It does not revolve around you as the players. It evolves on its own even though what you most certainly impact the evolution. Any actions that you take in the game will have reactions depending on the action you took. If you were to cut off a trade route, then it will have precautions on either side of the road. If you were to save a princess then that too will cause other things to happen. There are and will always be hidden things that you can't see happening behind the scenes and your actions will always affect those things in different ways. I am the DM, I will always cheer for you no matter what it is that you're trying to do. But just because I'm cheering on you doesn't mean I won't kill you when you try to fight the dragon at level 5. There is a lot of roleplaying in my world. You will go sessions without fighting a monster and even if you are out hunting monsters there will still be many opportunities to roleplay. Most of the NPCs have their own agendas, their own lives to deal with and their own shit to stand in. You may at times have the opportunity to "story tell" your way out of a roll. What I mean with this is that if you are trying to persuade a person, the words that come out of your mouth will weigh a thousand times more than the roll on the dice. If you're trying to pick a lock and you can explain to me how you do it in such a way that I can see that you would be able to unlock the lock in such a manner, you would be able to unlock it (unless you roll a 1). Who should you be? I am sorry to all the newcomers that have all read this far, if you do not have any experience with 5e then, unfortunately, this game is not for you. During my years of playing, I have taught quite a few individuals how to play 5e. But for this game, I want to be able to take a step back from the teaching role and solely focus on the world, the story and the characters. What I ask is not perfect knowledge of the rules, for that, I will provide. What I ask of is the effort to understand and know what your own character can and can't do, know how the system works so that there are no massive hiccups during any of the mechanical stages of the game, be it skill challenges, combat or RP. I ask for mature players that can handle the consequences of their own actions, and in some cases where the dice may simply not be in their favor. I want to point out that maturity does not always have something to do with age and therefore I will not set an age limit. I will say though that I prefer people of similar age to myself, but again there is no age limit set so everyone is free to apply. I ask for people who love to roleplay. As I believe that through great RP you may create a great story it is an important point for me. I do wish to have the kind of people who has the courage to do voices (bad or good). Those that can play their character without too much influence from the player. Those people that can interact with each other and without any meddling from me have great conversations character to character. I ask for the storytellers. The people who want to take part and create a cooperative story with a group of people. I want the people that if I hand over the DM torch for a description of things you will not shy away from but rather try your best to describe what is happening, or what the group sees. This is not because I can't do my job as a DM, but simply because I want all players to participate and share things from their own characters knowledge or view of things. I ask for the enthusiastic players. Those who have a love for the game and the characters that they create. Those who don't simply rush to the end simply to finish a story but instead stops and explores the world in a way their characters would. The people with a thirst for lore always have a warm welcome in my world. I ask for people who have the ability to express both their likes and dislikes with not only the world, my DMing but also the other players in the group. A group that communicates is a group that will stay together for a long time. The campaign This part is the tricky part. Some people love when there's already something created for them to start thinking about what characters may or may not fit. I, on the other hand, will not be giving you a campaign pitch right now. The campaign will be focused on the players that I choose to take into the game. It will be focused on what they wish to experience and the characters they wish to play. I hope that you understand and respect my decision to do so. This game will be run once (tiny tiny chance on twice) a week. Scheduling I live in Sweden, making me CEST or GMT+1. The game will most likely be held during a weekday starting at 18/19 CEST (Noon/1 PM EST). I do not have a day scheduled yet, as I will be dropping my other games my schedule will be free. There is also a possibility to play during the weekends, but then it is Sunday at the same starting time as written before. The game will start once we are filled, I do expect the application process to take up towards a month simply to find the right people. The game will run 3-4 hours with the possibility of making it longer during certain sessions if everybody has the ability to do so and we're in a situation where we want to finish something. Requirements It is required that you have access to a web camera, discord, and a good mic. It is required of you that you upon signup know that you will be able to dedicate the time and day to play. Of course, life happens, and there will be times when you can't make it. But signing up and knowing that in three weeks you'll be away for 4 weeks or that you every other month will miss 2 sessions is for me not okay. It is required that you laugh at my bad jokes or your character may end up falling into a pit. It is required that you as a person does not hold any discriminating beliefs towards people of any sort . Joining the game Because of my previous occupation as a professional DM, my expectations will be high for this game. I am looking for a group that will hold together for several years forward. During the course of the recruitment stages, there will be one if not more interviews held. Both at individual levels and on group levels. I will try to form the party that I know will work together and will not simply fall out because of personal differences. To join, please answer the following questions. Please read the questions thoroughly before answering and when answering be descriptive. 1. Who are you? 2. How did you end up here in this post and what has made you interested in joining this game in particular? 4. How much experience do you have with TTRPGs? (Is any of this experience as a DM?) 5. Please tell me of the most emotional moment in your TTRPG history (emotional is up to you to decide) 6. Is there anything that would be "too far" for you in a TTRPG? (Such a rape, gore, violence, bigotry, racism, etc) 7. Who was your most hated NPC and why? 8. What do you bring to the table? / What are your strengths and weaknesses? / What can you offer that somebody else might not have? (Note that this is just one question, some people might not know what "bring to the table" insinuates) 9. Do you have discord, a good mic, and a webcam? 10. What is your discord ID? 11. Please write down YOUR timezone and then proceed to tell me what days you are available. Note that the game will be starting around 6 PM CEST(Central European Standard Time) and run for 3-4 hours from there and make sure you can consistently make the times written. The time will not change no matter what day it is set upon. 12. Would you have any problem if your face and voice would be live-streamed if I chose to do so down the line? (NOTE that this is NOT a requirement and will NOT change your chances of getting into the game) I thank you kindly for reading all this text and I dearly hope that you leave an application! If you do wish to leave an application do it here https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/156613/tbd-a-tales-of-tpk-game
I'd like to kindly thank those people who have already applied for the game. I would also like to mention that the culling process starts later this week so there are still no spots that have been taken for the game!
