Dealing Cards

A while back I tried to run a game that featured a deck of cards. I couldn't really get it to work they way I wanted it to. Making the deck was fine, but distributing the cards to the players was nightmarish. Of course, a lot of other things were also fouling up that day, including the die roller and the display within the Google Hangouts app. So I'm wondering how to deal with cards (if you will pardon the pun). What is the best way to use them while keeping your sanity?

If you could describe the problems you had perhaps we could better offer solutions. Im not sure what element of distribution is "nightmarish".
It's been a while, but I'll try to clarify things. Perhaps the best way to explain it is that as I am giving the cards to the players, they cannot find them. I want the players to not only be able to see their cards but have them on display so that everyone can see them. The game in question is Costume Fairy Adventures , and the cards represent the costumes PC fey wear that give them special abilities. They have a hand of three, with one costume active, The other players need to be able to see the other costumes in their hands, though, so they can kibitz on the costume selections. Rather than go into minute detail on what went wrong, perhaps we could determine how it should work and go from there....

It's still not clear what your issue was, and without describing it, we can only guess at the solution. But anyway... You can deal cards in two ways: * To the table (just drag the card from the deck) * to the player directly (you can deal to multiple players at the same time) When a player receives a card, it appears as an icon above their name at the bottom left of the screen. All players can see the card backs of cards held by other players. Important: for each deck, make sure you add a graphic to the "Card Back" section. Otherwise they wont be visible. Make it the same size as the images you use for card fronts. So, by default, players can see the card backs of all cards held by other players. In the Deck setup, you can tick a box which allows them to see the fronts as well. If the card back needing a graphic isn't the problem, you'll have to be more specific if you want useful help.

Michael , we do need to determine what went wrong so that we could determine how to rectify it. So far, the problems you have described already have solutions. 1) Your players cannot find the cards. They should have them in their hands (above their icon) so I am not sure why they could not find the card. Could you go into more detail? 2) Your players cannot see the front of other player's cards. As GG stated, the GM can set the cards to display either the back or the front when they are in players hands.
