[LFP] [5E] Looking for 1 or 2 Roleplayers to Join our Story [Sunday 8:00 PM EST]

After an extended break our group is starting our old campaign back up, but we need to fill a spot or two. Our games are Sunday nights at 8pm eastern until somewhere around 11:30 or midnight. We try to play weekly, but most of us have jobs and families, and we usually strive for 4 out of every 5 weeks. Right now it looks like the game will start September 8 th , but I might try to do a session or two with just the new additions before that. The campaign is story-driven, and there is a lot of roleplaying. The story is at a point where a new player coming in will not feel out of place, and they will not just be filling a spot. Each character’s individual backstory plays a big role in the overall campaign. Min-maxers need not apply. Characters will start at level 5. D&D 5 th edition. This is free and always will be, as it should. To apply, please either PM me or reply here with the following information about you and your character concept: 1) Basic player stuff- whatever you feel like telling about you. What are you looking for from a game? What is your experience (none is needed if you have a willingness to roleplay, have fun, and be part of a team.) Where are you from, do you have family, what do you do for a job? None of those really need to be answered for consideration, but if you feel like sharing, go for it. **This is an LGBT friendly group. This is not and LGBT only group. We don’t care, and we don’t hate. If any romantic relationships happen in the game, it will be based solely around the preference of the character. We’re here to play, not judge. Don’t have hate in your heart, people. ** 2) Basic character stuff- class, race, general alignment tendencies 3) Backstory- this is probably the most important thing. The campaign integrates all of the characters backstories, so you need a good one. There will be some ideas below, but really, if you have an amazing backstory for a character you want to play, I’m sure there will be a way to integrate it. There is enough undefined space in the world that you could make up a homeland, and it would work. 4) Flaws- superhero characters are boring. Flawed heroes overcoming their weaknesses make for great stories. If your character doesn’t have flaws and quirks, he or she isn’t going to be very interesting. Your character should have a defining/tragic flaw. Some basic background to help you with back stories: Eradonia used to be a large, multi-racial continent with multiple cities, robust industries, large armies, and just about everything you can imagine for grand fantasy kingdoms. Eradonia had been troubled by orcs to the north for decades, but it was only in the last few years that the orcs had become massively organized and invaded the kingdom. One by one the cities and forts fell, and the final remains of any resistance were finally destroyed this week. The great elven kingdoms of Eradonia also fell, with the last, and perhaps greatest of all, Illya Alora, being one of the last bastions to fall to the immeasurable orc horde. Refugees have been fleeing the continent for years, but within the last few months and weeks it has been a steady stream of desperate people looking for salvation. Most fled to wherever they could, but the grand city-state of Tradewinds was a popular destination for many. For the elves, some sought their own kind in the foreign forests of Ferrante Glade.  Tradewinds is the largest city in the world, an absolutely enormous place that serves as the center of commerce for the entire planet.  The city is so large some people live their whole lives never leaving, and even the most dedicated of cartographers have long abandoned the foolish notion of mapping everything. The city is run by a council of grandmasters who represent the various forces with interest in keeping the city thriving, and those forces range from the city watch and lawful temples to the seedy crime syndicates. The various forces somehow manage to keep each other in check, with a balance held for the good of all. It is said if you want anything in the world, Tradewinds is the place to look. If it’s not there for sale, then the information about it, the muscle to take it, or the transportation, mundane, magical, or even inter-planar, will be for sale.  All sorts of characters find themselves in Tradewinds for numerous reasons. Ferrante Glade is a largest elven kingdom in the world, especially with the fall of Illya Alora and the other Eradonia elven kingdoms. The elves tend to keep to themselves, but they are tolerant of interactions with the other races and kingdoms, and trade, while not vital to their survival, enhances their quality of life. They are sympathetic to the elves from Eradonia who have lost their homes, and while they have only rare encounters with other elf kingdoms, they tend to be respectful, though there are some they view with suspicion. There are stories and whispers of Brennan elves, strange foreign elves. Some stories say they looked down on Ferrante Glade elves, others say they come from another world, while some say they are demon-touched and cursed.
Sorry, I forgot to put that all races and classes are on the table for character creation options.
Hi, Your game seems really interesting with lots of opportunity to explore your world.  I very much like the entire overwhelming force threatening civilization theme its where I find the most fun honestly.  I tend to enjoy playing a heroic type of character with generally like minded heroes who for whatever reason end up together and work cooperatively for the betterment of their races/homes/clans/families/nations, etc.  It really helps to push past the why are we adventuring/working together so we can all enjoy the story at hand. 1) Basic player stuff-  Name: Kevin 38 yrs old married no kids working professional.  I manage a department responsible for making pieces of plastic that nearly all of civilization bows down to (credit cards).  I enjoy games where everyone at the table understands this is a cooperative game but also is a story telling medium.  As such we should always try and portray our characters accurately but not at the expense of the story we should all be working towards moving the narrative.  I also always appreciate DMs who make attempts to integrate backstories into the game.  As far as diversity goes I really could care less about any of that because honestly it has nothing to do with the game.  I believe vehemently in a live and let live philosophy.  I have met plenty of jerks from all walks of life and plenty of super awesome people from all walks of life so to me it really doesn't matter. 2) Basic character stuff- I prefer to generate characters cooperatively with the group or atleast the DM.  I find it makes more organic character development plus I just like having characters with a link to an existing character.  Plus it makes it easier for the DM to introduce you.  However,  I have found that I tend to favor melee focused characters the most in particular Fighter-Battlemasters.  I do tend to favor characters that have roles in and out of combat as such I will admit I have probably played half-elves entirely too much. 3) Backstory- Rannick Silvanus Rannick began life as many have on the streets of Alessia wondering where his next meal or safe place to sleep would come from.  He would steal just to survive from the freshly baked bread taunting his hungry stomach with its aromatic sweetness to the careless rich merchant leaving his coin purse unattended.  However, as hungry as he was Rannick never stole for himself only for the other children of the streets who were not as capable.  One of these children one day decided to try and do something for Rannick.  However when she attempted to steal a small purse of coins from a nobleman's table at the tavern.  She was noticed by a large imposing knight that she failed to notice.  She stumbled back tripping over the chair behind her and let out a scream.  Rannick hearing his friend's cry for help ran towards the tavern and saw her crying while being held suspended in the air by the stalwart sentinel.  Rannick did not hesitate and let out a battle cry jumped onto a table and leaped at the knight foolishly punching his helm off of his face.  The knight not hurt in the least was clearly surprised as he let go of the girl and once he regained his bearings saw Rannick cradling his hand but taking a protective stance over his friend.  The knight was impressed by his bravery even when he was clearly so afraid.  The knight introduced himself as Darian Tarse, The Black Spear and asked tell me where would you like to spend the night in jail with 1 hand or in the barracks with me working towards something greater than yourself?  From that day forward Rannick spent his days training with the knight till he was strong enough to be his squire.  The 2 of them were inseparable and at more than one occasion people would mistake Rannick for Darian's son.  These were happy times indeed until the orcs came.  At this point in time Rannick was newly annointed Knight and was deployed to the front line with his old master.  The sheer numbers of the horde rattled the bravest men to the bones however the King himself took to the field in order to boost morale.  His decision changed to the course of Rannick's life forever.  The forward flank succumbed to the fear of the horde and broke leaving only the company of the Black Spear to protect the king.  Rannick witnessed the unthinkable his master began to order a retreat.  Rannick pleaded with him but noticed his master had fully panicked this stalwart man that never showed fear had been cowed by the orcs.  Knowing the result of their line breaking with tears streaming down his face Rannick knew he had to silence Darian.  Darian would not relent so Rannick plunged his spear through his chest and took command rallying their company and was able to fend the orcs off long enough for the King to escape.  Many would claim Rannick a hero but sees himself only as the man who murdered the only person to show him true kindness.  4) Flaws-  Rannick is self loathing to the point of seeking out missions that are so dangerous that no one else would ever volunteer for.  He is consumed by hatred for the orcs and himself.  Those who know what happened on that fateful may look on him as a hero but he feels like a craven murderer a man unworthy such praise.  He tends to shy away from areas with Alessian refugees for this reason.
Homebrew is allowed?
Luck said: Homebrew is allowed? Do you mean like a homebrew race or class? I'll consider just about anything, but it needs to be balanced and make sense. We have one guy who is playing a variant class not found in the PHB, Volo's, or Xanathar's, but it was something that was play-tested before being published. I'm pretty flexible with stuff so long as the story is there and there's a good reason for it.
1. I want interesting people to interact with an a game world that I can really become a part of. I've been playing 5E for a few years now, and a bit of 4E when I was in high school, I do love to role play when I get the option in a campaign. I'm 22, from the west coast, don't really have a family, and I stay at home due to injuries. So I have quite a bit of free time. 2. I tend to play a lot of Warlocks but have never played a tiefling before. Odds are I would play a Warlock again, though I'm not apposed to playing something else if we can talk out a really cool concept that works within your world. 3. If I'm honest I do like the sound of your setting  but I think I'd like to hear a bit  about  the current situation so I can go back through and make something from the ground up to get my character integrated with purpose rather than just showing up to have a few friends. 4. above applies.
