Hand drawn map effects...

Here's a question for others who like the "hand drawn map" look for their games: what sort of effects do you use on them in play? The whole fog of war/line of sight effect would seem to work against the whole concept as it blacks things out and you can't change the color of the fog...or can you? I haven't needed a lot of "battle maps" for my campaign, but the more I create them, the more I would rather go for something of a more hand drawn look . Ideally, I would invert the fog of war feature to "white out" unseen areas of the map, but I don't think you can do that currently. So what solutions have the rest of you worked out and how do they look?
If you wish to have it look as if it's being drawn as you go, you could try inverting the colors of your maps. black background, light foreground. As far as I know we cannot currently change the color of the fog of war.

One option might be to place white rectangles on the map layer above the actual map, and remove them as the players progress.
