We have a Free Game right now, that has 4 Imaginative Players and we would like to Add 2 More, this will not be for everyone, you would need an Imagination, that is critical. You must also be Punctual, Reliable, and Have a Descent way of Audio Communication (we use Discord) and Text. This campaign is for Role Players, if this is you, post something here or send Ajax a Private Message. Serious Players only need apply, However If you are Totally New to Role Playing Games this will be a perfect start for you... What is this game we call Dungeons and Dragons, if I am playing a game where I control an individual that has Ability Scores like Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom and I am rolling a 20 sided dice or any type of dice and have to roll high to determine whether I am successful at what I am trying to do, well I'm playing Dungeons and Dragons, "A Rose by any other name is still a Rose". Call it 1st Edition, 5E, Pathfinder, Hackmaster, Dungeon Crawl Classics, etc, it's still some form of Dungeons and Dragons. What makes the difference is how we juggle the numbers through options provided by the rules of each particular system, but in the end it all comes down to Rolling a High Number against a Target Number. Anything we add to our Dice Roll is constant at the time we actually roll the die, so success is still determined by that dice roll. I want to hit the Orc with my sword, my target number is (whatever might used in the system you're playing) for this example let's say 14. The rule says I get a +3 because of my Strength Score and Another +2 because I have the "I'm too Cool" Fighter Option, and another +1 because I took the "I hate Orcs" Option to Add to my d20 Roll, so I need to Roll an 8 or better to hit the Orc. If I fail to Roll an 8 or higher I miss... I Roll a 7! Cleric Blesses me, another +1, Bard Inspires me, another +1, Wizard casts the Spell "Make the Fighter Even Cooler", another +1. I attack that nasty Orc again, now I just need a 5 or Better. I Roll a 4! The Orc (controlled by the Dungeon Master, who is God) Rolls a 16 on his Roll and slices off my left arm! I run away and hide behind the Wizard, the Cleric Reattaches my Arm and Heals my wounds, I again Attack the Orc, who is grinning at my incompetence. I Roll a 17! the DM (God) says I get to Roll some Damage, I roll a d6 and Add +3 because of my cool Strength, I Roll a 5 + 3, and God tells me, "the Orc crumbles to the ground, his head rolls off into the sand, you look down to find it still grinning". There isn't one thing mentioned in that encounter description that could not have been thought up on the spot by imaginative players, without any need for a huge book of rules! Point, and I Paraphrase Mr. Gygax, "The biggest secret in this game, you don't need any rules" If we use Logic, Reason, and Common Sense a Dungeon Master or Game Master only needs to set a reasonable Target for a Player to Roll on the Dice for anything the player wants to do that would require an effort. So why do we have all these different rules? Well first off, it is so Game Publishers can sell books of rules, they are a business it's what they do. But as players why do we want all these different rules? When we aren't actually playing we can pour over the rule books to find some way of scamming the system... In the End it still comes down to altering the Numbers. Another example: two Fighters, they are Identical Twins, we will call them Bud and Lou. Bud and Lou were born and raised as Farmers but decided to take to the road as Adventures and head toward the frontier and all the unknown that might be out there. Now remember they are Identical Twins, their Ability Scores are exactly the same. Both want to be Fighters. The players are using the D&D 5E Rules. Bud's Player call him Kenny, decides Bud will choose the Protection fighting style, and Lou's Player call him Jack, decides he will choose Two Weapon Fighting. WHY? They are Identical Twins, just off the Farm, why can't Bud wield two weapons and why can't Lou Protect as well as his brother, why, because of Rules. My Point, why not let Kenny and Jack think of these things on their own, just let them play, RULES BOG DOWN THE GAME!!! A Gaming System can be described in a few Paragraphs if the players playing the game have that one element you can't find in a Rulebook, AN IMAGINATION... -Ajax 9-6-2019
