[DnD 5E] [Partially Sighted Player] Looking for DM and Group willing to accomodate & support

Hi all I was recently introduced to D&D and would love to keep playing. However, I am partially sighted so need a little help playing on PC rarther than in person. Plus new to roll20 so would appreciate a quick "tour" on how to play - think I got it, but just to be safe. I played using the squire android app and was able to roll fine. Don't want players to be afraid my vision will hinder the game, from my current experience it hasn't. However, I do need a little help: *Might need things on screen described/pointed out. (Ie I find it difficult to see text on white/light backgrounds -  high contrast modes are life savers), things are easier to see if they stand out rarther than being transparent or blend into background. ** The more verbal the better - avoids me having to do loads of clicking and looking at the screen * Familiariseing/setting up screens/apps/tools/macros/API etc (which app to use?) * Little help getting my build ready and on the app/sheet correctly. That being said I was hoping there is a DM out there that is willing to "take me under their wing" so to speak. No special treatment expected. Hoping for an experienced DM/Player with patience and with a willingness to help explain things. More importantly a DM who is happy to accomadate for my vision and help get me familiar with navigating and using screens/apps/tools/macros/API etc. Note: As I get used to the game, app/screen I am sure that the help I will need will diminish to next to nothing. Just need that initial helping hand and friendly companions to get me comfortable and I will strive to be as independant as possible ASAP. Finally, I'm still a beginner so would love to play with other level 1 characters. So we are all learning together, and have a DM who is able to guide and educate us...but up for anything * I am based in UK (happy to play internationally as long as start time UK is after 10am and good connection can be maintained - a late morning/afternoon game on the days I dont work would actually be nice) * 26 years old (ideally players of a similar age or older) * Would be nice to have a mix of male and female players. * Happy to play 1-3 times a week (can see the sense of starting with just 1 session and increasing if the team wants to). * Work Mon and Wed 8:30-18:00, Fri 19:00 - 20:30 atm so fairly flexible any day/time around my work. * Read PHB, XGtE, SCOG etc so would be nice to use all races/builds/backgrounds and possibly multiclass once settled. * Would love a dedicated group to go through many campaigns/long campaign) P.s sorry if there are guides on forums I have missed. I have looked at the tutorial thread. But it would be a great help if I had someone to help me get set up and ready to adventure! TLDR I am partially sighted and looking for a DM + 2-3 level 1 players to play the game with. However, need companions/DM that are kind and friendly enough to accomadate for my visual impairment, help me set up my first character and explain things till I get comfortable in the game.
Hey Suraj, I'm legally blind myself, and I know how vision disabilities can steepen the learning curve of any new computer interface.  Don't sweat it.  And don't feel that you need to apologize for anything.  A group that resents someone with a disability taking a little extra time to acclimate to a new interface sounds like a group you wouldn't want to spend time with anyway. My advice.  jot down some notes about a couple different character ideas. and apply to every LFP campaign that works for you timewise.  Once you get chosen, if you still feel nervous, let your DM know and maybe they can set you up with a private lesson on whatever AV stack they use. This is a really friendly community. Cheers

Really helped settle my anxiousness about finding a group and playing - feeling much more confident now. Personal question, hope you don't mind, how do you go about playing with your vision? Ie seeing the screen/rolling Any tips for playing with a visual impairment? Appreciate it!
I think this would be a great opportunity for a DM to improve on their descriptions.  My games start at 1am your time so all I can do is hope you find a good group.
No worries thanks.
I just want to chime in to say I'm also legally blind, and wish you luck!  There are actually tons of blind players and DMs out there. I even wrote an article for TheMarySue a while back about all the ways blind players are making DnD accessible for themselves and how game companies are helping the process.   I'll be honest. I've had a couple of DMs who struggled with me being blind and weren't great about being helpful or patient. But that's the minority. Most of the DMs I've played with are people I've met via Roll20 and they've been amazing. Most of the time, i don't feel like there's any difference between me and the other players. If anything, Roll20 has made gaming a much more even playing field for me. I hope you find the same results!   My advice, honestly, is just to apply for games here or in the Join a Game tool, and when you apply, mention to the DM that you're visually impaired and ask if they'd be done to do a one-on-one session zero just to show you their GM style and so you can brainstorm some ways to help make things easier. (For example: My DMs know if they are making any markings on maps, it needs to be high contrast so I can see it.) In my experience, pretty much every GM has been totally down for this. If someone is a jerk about it, they aren't a GM worth your time anyway.  But I don't think you'll have much trouble. Glad to see another low vision person in the DnD community! Welcome and good luck!
I wear glasses, but otherwise see fine so I can not pretend to know what you are going through. I was running a mini campaign over the Summer before a personal issue pulled me away. We had a player whose reader was not compatible with roll20. He was able to use D&D Beyond for his character sheet and another program to roll dice. I moved his token around and rolled initiative in roll20, but other than that his part was all external from roll20. I usually do quite a bit of theater of the mind play, but had drawn maps because I knew there were a lot of new players between three weekly games I was running for that server at the time. It worked pretty well. I would probably mention it early on. Find out up front if someone is willing to work with you or not and save yourself some time. It can be a hurdle, but an easy one to knock over or step around if you work together.
Suraj,     I replied to your PM with my details! I'm down to play.
Thanks. For all replies give me hope....still looking for that godsent DM though :)
