Homebrew content in compendium

September 21 (5 years ago)

So, I've looked around on both the player server and development server and I'm finding convoluted answers to my question. Maybe I'm not understanding or looking in the wrong spots.

Is there a way to ADD to the compendium for specific games? I don't want to edit anything in the compendium itself. But there are homebrew systems that, for example, feed off of 5e compendium. But they add races, classes, etc. Is there a way to add that kind of stuff to the game so that we can still use the character-mancer for level up, etc.?

Thanks

Short answer: no.

Long answer: you can use the Charactermancer to some extent, but the farther you deviate from the norm, the less you can use it. For instance, you can (and have to) add feats manually. And a homebrew one you can type in manually, yet still use Level Up.

The impediments for homebrew compendium expansion are partly technical and partly legal. Technical in that the back end for the Compendium and the Charactermancer are not simple nor easy to use. Support and technical modifications would be problematic to say the least.

The legal complications are due to the possible avenues of piracy. I know that someone usually chimes in to say that people are going to pirate anyway and there are other ways to pirate material, etc. But aside from the programmatic objections, there are very likely contractual impediments. I.e. licenses may depend on not having certain capabilities in the software.

I do not represent Roll20 and these are my observations only.

No, there isn't.  There is a popular suggestion for it, and here is a link to the most recent relevant staff post: https://app.roll20.net/forum/permalink/7120550/

Thanks for that, The hardest part would be that the Charactermancer requires you to pick a Race and Class in the process so right off the bat, there's difficulty if you are trying to use a homebrew race or class. But that's ok, I was just trying to get a feel for if it was even possible.
