BECMI OD&D on purpose. Interest check.

I'm looking for people interested in playing the BECMI version of OD&D on purpose. Plenty of games have been filled by people who were simply "willing to try it". But their fundamental lack of interest in the version usually precluded the use of Weapon Mastery, or adjusting their saves based on their stats. Plus i'd like to try out a system i found for making custom classes. Does anyone play this version? On purpose?

Us old schoolers are everywhere. ( ignore that comment, we not suppose to say anything as we are a secret community that hides in plain sight. :D ) You can use the looking for group search(see blue banner) and key word "oldschool revival" plus there is a large community on facebook and g+ communities have them also.
I'm running a D&D B/X campaign on purpose, while borrowing a few elements from BECMI. I love the simplicity of it, well-suited for running in Roll20.
Wait, you mean there's stuff on google plus? I always thought google plus was where the internet-devil took you at the end of a sinful internet-life spent comparing things to hitler. Is it like a texas thing? Clearly built to house the souls of the damned, yet people started living there for some reason? Plus it kinda sounds like both of you are in games already. Are you looking for another one?

I'm a heroquest board game on tuesdays and an every other week trinity game that I might not be staying in. Both of them are ran in a hangout.
Not another person , another game! I'm hoping to start an OD&D game if I can find enough interested people.
Billy Redd said: Does anyone play this version? On purpose? I know of at least one long term BECMI/RC game running on Roll20 and I'm almost 100% certain they deliberately picked their rule system. I have a reoccurring nightmare where my OD&D game spontaneously turns into a BECMI (or worse yet AD&D), but that's between me and my therapist. As to Google+, for whatever reason a large portion of the OSR community gravitated there and are active and posting up a storm. It might have had something to do with Google Hangouts facilitating Flailsnails style games. In any case, when I advertised my OD&D game almost a year ago half of the initial 10 respondents came from the OSR and Swords & Wizardry communities - making it just as effective as the LFG tool and forums. It's purely anecdotal, but the people coming from the Google+ groups tended to be a better fit for the game since they knew what they were getting into. The Dragonsfoot.org forums could be another asset in finding interested players if you want to take a look there too.
I have a similar dream where my Next group turns into 3.5-esque power gamers (or worse, 4e power gamers). Thanks for the ideas!
I can verify that Dragonsfoot is a good place to recruit for an old-school Roll20 campaign. Two of the players in my 1st edition AD&D Roll20 game were recruited from there and they're both great players. It's definitely the target audience you're looking for when recruiting for an old-school D&D game.
Hello Gents, I'm a big fan of the BECMI rules set and I would play them On Purpose but in order to do that I'd first have t find them. Not sure how Google+ Hang out works as of yet or even where one goes to look over the upcoming events for it. But please count me in for potential future games.
I love becmi. Keep me posted. EST here.
I'd be very interested in a BECMI group, Billy and on EST here, as well. I run a weekly PF game on Saturdays at noon but I'd love to be a part of this if we can get enough players. Please PM me with any specifics or if I can help in any way.
There are a lot of old school players all over facebook also.

{shushing noise and in a soft voice} Trollkin, you're not to tell them that we're everywhere. :D
Every last square inch of the grand canyon can be filled with food, and it still won't help you if you're starving on another continent. I'm looking for people here . Telling me there "might be some in that direction", is much less helpful than you might think.
In roughly the time it took you to think up and type that bon mot, you could have joined Dragonsfoot and posted that you were looking for players. Granted, it would like slightly longer to sign up for G+ and hunt down a few OSR communities, but that is still an option. Brett and I both are running stable, long term games of rules that are older than BECMI on Roll20 and of the type you seem to be interested in running. We're telling you what worked for us - that recruiting people not active on Roll20 is a good strategy; a year later, I still get people asking if they can join my game from an old Google+ post. @Mike Blanc - the BECMI rules can be legally found via sites like DnD Classics in the guise of the Rules Cyclopedia or the individual box set booklets. Those seeking a cheaper (free) and legal option should google the Dark Dungeons retro-clone.
If that was an avenue I was interested in pursuing then it would have already happened, and it wouldn't involve posting on roll20. Again, with this ad, I was looking for people here .
