[LFP][5E][FREE] Ghosts of Saltmarsh: Curse of the Black Tide

Welcome to the dungeon, you may call me Map, and feel free to apply down below after reading through at least this post carefully! Basic Overview Slots:  4/6, experienced players preferred but new are welcome too Time: Sunday, 1-5 PM EST Period: Weekly Amount of Sessions: Undetermined Format: Voice only, Discord Age: 18+ (this means dark/adult themes) Setting: Forgotten Realms/Homebrew (I'll explain) Start: 1st level, no equipment, Class/Background gold Stats: Roll 4d6dl1, or take Standard Array What to expect... -I'm running a module from start to finish, and beyond. Since GoS is a collection of side quests, I made my own narrative and added some other things to carry on after the module is done should the players want to continue. For example, the game may continue on to other modules or adventures I've made, by choice of the party. -The Forgotten Realms is expanded on with a bit of homebrew, meaning I'm a bit loose in some areas and more rigid in others. For instance, I may bring things in from other settings or media (books/movies/games), but for the most part, FR is the foundation I'm working with. -Homebrew/UA rules are simple; if its similar to something that already exists in the official material, has more versatility or simply does things better than the base material, then its not allowed . If you can't judge something effectively, then just pass it to me. I have to approve it anyway, and we may be able to come to an accord on balance/flavoring. A few examples: Mystic does things many classes can do, and better. It would be severely nerfed into the ground before I'd allow it. If you want to play a half giant with absurd stat bumps, I'd say no, go with a Goliath. If you just don't want to look like an anthropomorphic cat person (Tabaxi) but still want to be a cat person, you can just take some features (ears, eyes, tail, some fur, mannerisms, etc). These are all things I've encountered with previous players and those were my judgement calls I stand by, and will continue to honor. -I employ the fullest resources the internet allows me without breaking out my wallet, meaning I do not own the module on Roll20 and will not have all the same tokens/maps/handouts a DM with the module will have. But I will not just have it be completely theater of the mind, there will be battle maps, music, monster tokens, etc. -There is an age warning for a reason. If a hag biting a child's finger off, a family of cannibals threatening your group with sharp utensils, or finding out the noble family has been incestuous for generations bothers you (as I've used these in the past to drive a shocking and horrific narrative) then this may not be the game for you. Player discretion is advised. -Other than the UA/Homebrew stuff, all races and classes are allowed. Duly note that monstrous races will surely be attacked/captured  on sight. Remember that the goblins and orcs of any traditional D&D setting often pillage/murder villages and towns, so present company excluded, they'll not hesitate to have an attempt on your character's life if they are one of the monstrous races under Volo's Guide to Monsters. You have been warned. -I don't always do accents or dialects, but I do try occasionally. Usually when I do, its because that person/thing is something I want to stand out. -I try to keep my games as fun as possible for everyone. If there's something that's bothering you, that I haven't outlined in this post, please tell me. Don't just suddenly ghost because you're not having fun. Everyone and everything can be improved, and some of my rules can be shifted or changed in the right circumstances. Bottom line is, just talk to me. I like to think I'm a reasonable undead overlord. Wait...what? What I expect... -Show up for games on time, consistently. If you have other things going on that just pop up, I get it. And I understand if life changes between the time you say "Sign me up" and the weeks following. Just please tell me you can't show up so we're not waiting on you, or if you can't play anymore at all, I can at least fill the slot in the party. -Adults. Don't care about your ethnicity, sexuality, or whatever. Just be a reasonable adult. -Take some notes. There's almost always a party book keeper but having your own notes (bonus points for in character perception) is very useful to you and  me. -Always be in character. This helps make the games feel like stuff actually happened even in the dungeon crawls. I'll do my best to engage the players, but its a two way street and I appreciate help, even if it means you just banter with the party or NPCs. -Make sure you ask what to roll before rolling, and make sure you're just being responsible with your rolls. I've had people repeatedly roll Insight on NPCs and not ask before hand, or roll without specifying what the roll is for. Its frustrating for the DM and other players. -Don't record without everyone's permission. I don't really care about being recorded, but some people are really sensitive about that sort of thing. If you want to record for your own amusement or maybe a podcast, make sure everyone is on board. With all of the expectations out of the way, feel free to read the Prologue and apply here or send a message to me on Discord. Map#9044 is my tag. Ciao.
Prologue It's a bright, sunny afternoon, and the Prescott is sailing to Waterdeep from Neverwinter carrying a number of passengers. Several dozen assorted people of various races, creeds, and jobs. The ship is sailing at a nice and slow cruise, and the passengers are allowed on the deck for a while, as the day is beautiful. It makes a turn for the worse when off in the distance, storm clouds suddenly begin to appear. All color in that direction is grey, and the clouds are approaching. The waters under these clouds are black, and even as the captain and crew begin to panic, make the ship move faster away from the approaching tide, the ship isn’t able to outrun it. All passengers are hurried downstairs as the ship begins to rock, and everyone can feel the ship’s hull being assaulted by small blows on every side. Though these blows aren’t meant to damage, it was meant to board. The storm is on top of the ship now, and the crew are forced to drop the anchor. Through cracks and crevices in the boards, the passengers can see webbed and skeletal feet, the sound of light moaning, rattling bones, and strange guttural clicking. The ship was being boarded by a large amount undead and Sahuagin. Some of the forces come down to the other levels, secure weapons and make sure everyone is subjugated. The undead appeared to have coral and barnacles on them, some even have seaweed dangling off of their remains. Their bones are rotted but strong enough to support themselves, and the odd rusty weapon or shield. The Sahuagin are armed with spears and clubs, most are blue or purple in skin color. Everyone is brought back up to the deck, forced to kneel by the railing of the deck. Some of the undead and fish humanoids part, as a figure forms, floating off the side of the ship. The figure lands on the deck, dripping with the sea water he arose from. The skeletal being lowers his hood, revealing the glowing orbs in his eyes. He was wearing clothes fitting a noble, though very wet and rotted from lots of salt water damage. It was outfitted with rotted leather, as if it was armored at some point. One could see he had an accordion on his lower back and a lute on his upper back. There’s also a viol on his side, though all of his instruments look like they’ve succumbed to some level of saltwater damage. The skeletal being slowly floats over to the captain, and the captain seems to be pissing himself, shaking with fear. The other crew members seem absolutely terrified as well. A boney hand extends and touches the captain, who suddenly seized up with a flash of powerful necrotic energy, then collapses...paralyzed. The being floats across the line of crew and passengers, then pulls something out of a pouch, and opens the little leather bag. He opened it, and emptied the contents onto the deck. A set of bone dice… The being systematically begins to roll dice in front of each crew member and passenger, determining something...everyone who gets a certain roll gets a skeletal hand shoved in their chest, then turned into an undead. The process is horrific, quick, but absolutely terrifying. The being had overwhelming power and numbers on it’s side, yet the party were some of the few who were not turned. The skeletal figure stops in front of those spared, and begun speaking. Its voice was smooth, yet forced, as if they were struggling to speak in this whispery voice. “...I wasn’t given...the same courtesy...when I was boarded. You...should consider yourselves...lucky…” The being jingles the bag of dice before putting them back in his clothing. “I...hope you are grateful...and know how to swim…at least better than I…” The being then has some Sahuagin and recently turned crew members toss the “lucky” ones over the railing. The black tide envelops the survivors, and only the party is able to survive the overwhelming necrotic energy of this tide. Within a few hours, the party manages to wash up in a cove, everyone can be considered the last known survivors of the Prescott. It’s nearing sundown, and it may be a full day of light’s travel to another city or town. The party should likely make camp in this cove, find a cave, get a fire, and get some food. All they have are the gold they brought with them and their wits...hopefully it will serve them well.
Hey there! I'm totally interested in playing GoSM, and would like to be considered for your game. Here's some info... Name: Kaz Experience: 20+ years in RPGs, primarily D&D. Character concept: Variant Human Ranger (I'm thinking Gloomstalker at 3rd, especially if we're delving into caves and such) Playstyle: I like a good mix of RP and action. My favorite thing to witness is when players find ways to outwit an enemy, or find a cleaver solution out of an encounter. But I'm not opposed to getting my blades dirty. PM me if you are interested, or need more information about me. Thanks!
Need two more players to fill in spaces for this game, we are two sessions in and the party is sitting on 2-3 levels respectively. They are currently at the Haunted House just east of Saltmarsh. If you'd like to join this game, you can PM me on here or on Discord: Map#9044 Current party comp (if that matters to you): -Aasimar, Male, Divine Soul Sorcerer -Triton, Female, Shark Totem Barbarian -Lizardman, Male, Monk (undecided subclass) -Human, Male, Gloomstalker Ranger
If you are still accepting recruits I would be down to playing this campaign.
