Ch. 5: The Aboleth is defeated, Then Confronted by Yellow Musk Zombies!

Dungeon Master (GM): You all are inside that yellow box, representing the cube of force's force field, to keep out all things, this includes rowan & the hirelings being inside the force field. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: 8 people inside a 10 foot cube? GreyWolfVT (Grax): that square doesn't appear to be the right size for us all Dungeon Master (GM): It's only 10 x 10 x 10 ft. It would be the adventure group (10 characters) + the hirelings inside the cube (10 more). GreyWolfVT (Grax): uh ok... Dungeon Master (GM): each square = 5 ft GreyWolfVT (Grax): thought that cube did a 30 x 30 x 30 forcefield normally? Dungeon Master (GM): The 30 ft is the movement rate. Ok, so you want to fight the aboleth? if so start making init rolls for whomever is attacking, I guess just the missile weapon users? WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Aboleth the Aboleth , gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: 7 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: -5 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Grax Ironcloak the Shield Dwarf Fighter / Thief, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: -5 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Cassandra the Human Witch, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: 5 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Balen the Human Bard , gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: 3 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Rowan Root, Halfling Guardian the Halfling (Stout) Guardian, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: 0 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Rokas of Strip Claws the Sylvian Elf Beast Fighter, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: -1 WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Maevis Silverleaf the Half Elf Bard, gets ready to make an attack move! Weapon INIT Roll: 5 Magic-User SPELL INITIATIVE ROLL: Xilicien - Magic-User the Elven Magic-User, gets ready to cast a Spell! Spell INIT Roll: 3 ok is sheila attacking at all? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: no. she has no ranged weapons Start of Round 1 Start of Turn 1 for Aboleth (7) Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, the Aboleth continues pounding on the cube with it’s tentacles to no effect Start of Turn 1 for Maevis (5) Dungeon Master (GM): Hi Devin! GreyWolfVT (Grax): man that thing needs to keep it's tentacles to itself Dungeon Master (GM): is Maevis doing anything??? GreyWolfVT (Grax): seducing the creature Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: He's flashing his blue light at it Dungeon Master (GM): Ha Ha Ha! Also for Cassandra is she staying out of range of the fight on her broom, you guys can move her where you want to go Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: if she is basically one of the hirelings then she can stay out Maevis/Quintolos: Maevis will use a shell shuriken Dungeon Master (GM): ok ok GreyWolfVT (Grax): right but she does cast spells and her spells are useful Maevis the Bard, Attacks with the Magical +1 SHELL SHURIKENS OF CRUSHING (6") at Aboleth enemy! Shuriken #1 Strike Hits: AC 10 For 4 S/M/L Damage! Shuriken #2 Strike Hits: AC 16 For 3 S/M/L Damage! Shuriken #3 Strike Hits: AC 2 For 3 S/M/L Damage! Victim must make Saving Throw Vs. Paralyzation or suffer 3 Crushing Damage for each round of 2 rounds ! SAVE VS. PARALYZATION For Aboleth Rolls: 16 Needs ≥ 10 ok so only the 3rd one hits the creature dealing 3 damage and saves vs the magical crushing Start of Turn 1 for Cassandra (5) Dungeon Master (GM): she's just flying out of range right?
Start of Turn 1 for Xilicien (3) GreyWolfVT (Grax): i guess so Xilicien the Enchanter, using saltpetre (salitre) and sulfur (enxofre) rolled together with pitch, cast the MELF'S MINUTE METEORS Spell upon Aboleth! Level 3 Magic-User * Evocation Components V,S,M Casting Time 3 Segments Range 100 ft + 10 ft/level: 170 ft Duration 1 round/level: 7 rounds Area of Effect Special Saving Throw Vs Spells Negates Damage: 5 5 7 5 4 5 2 Effects: Tiny globes of fire are created, one for each caster level (to a maximum of 10). Any creature or flammable object that takes damage form at least one meteor, must abide by the rules of catching fire, except that the fire lasts only for 2 rounds. Each meteor can strike only one creature or object, but more than one can hit the same target. If hit by multiple meteors, the target needs to save only once, but the save DC increases by +2 for every successful hit after the first during the same round. The meteors are treated as ranged touch attacks, and those who miss their targets are treated as missing thrown splash weapons (Player's Handbook, pg 158) that land on a random adjacent square from the original target, dealing 1 point of fire damage to all within that square. The meteors can be fired with a swift action (allowing 1 meteor per round to be fired) or as a full round action ( allowing up to 5 meteors per round to be fired). In either case the caster uses his full base attack bonus to all meteors. The spell ends when all the fire spheres are gone, when the caster dismisses the spell or when the duration expires. This Spell does not function underwater. Is part of it above the water? SAVE VS. SPELL For Aboleth the Aboleth Rolls: 18 Needs ≥ 13 Start of Turn 1 for Balen (3) Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: his tentacles should be at least Dungeon Master (GM): It’s like half in and half out of the water Dungeon Master (GM): ok Balen just taunts the aboleth JESTING to TAUNT or TEASE Balen the Human Bard , starts to gesticulate! Jesting to Taunt or Tease is being done. Affecting those within 30 ft and who are able to fully view him. This form of Jesting causes those being jested at to roll a Saving Throw Vs Paralyzation, with a - 1 penalty per three levels of the Jester: - 3 Those who fail must immediately try to physically strike the Jester for as long as the jesting continues. The effect ends when the jesting ends. SAVE VS. PARALYZATION For Aboleth the Aboleth Rolls: 3 Needs ≥ 10 Maevis/Quintolos: maybe it will fail this time Dungeon Master (GM): ok so now the aboleth is focused on the Jester, trying to get at Balen! Start of Turn 1 for Rowan & Hirelings (0) WEAPONS ON HAND "TO HIT" ROLLS: For Rowan & Hirelings the Halfling (Stout) Guardian Dagger Overbearing Parry Pummel Punch Attack Shield Punch Shield Rush Short Sword +2 Subdue Wrestle / Grapple Attack Dungeon Master (GM): ok he can't do anything Start of Turn 1 for Rokas (-1) WEAPONS ON HAND "TO HIT" ROLLS: For Rokas the Sylvian Elf Beast Fighter Overbearing Parry Pummel Punch Attack Punch Dagger Claws Shield Punch Shield Rush Spear Sword, Long Subdue Wrestle / Grapple Attack Dungeon Master (GM): he can’t do anything right now either Start of Turn 1 for Grax (-5) Grax the Fighter / Thief, Fires FLIGHT ARROWS (18") with SHORT BOW (Short Range) at Aboleth enemy! Flight Arrow #1 Strike Hits: AC 0 For 1 S/M/L HP Damage! Flight Arrow #2 Strike Hits: AC -3 For 6 S/M/L HP Damage! Gets 2 arrow attacks per turn. Short Range is: 6ft to 50ft Dungeon Master (GM): both hit for 7 total damage! Start of Turn 1 for Coal (-5) Coal the Ranger, Fires a FLIGHT ARROW (18") with the FOESEEKER LONG BOW +1 (6ft) (Point Blank Range) at Aboleth enemy! Flight Arrow #1 Strike Hits: AC -6 For 9 S/M/L HP Damage! Flight Arrow #2 Strike Hits: AC -4 For 9 S/M/L HP Damage Flight Arrow #3 Strike Hits: AC -7 For 5 S/M/L HP Damage! Specialized Weapon: +2 'To Hit' at Point Blank Range of 6ft to 30ft ; 3 arrow attacks per round
Dungeon Master (GM): ok, as all three arrows hit the aboleth it goes limp! Half the body is on the river bank/path, the rest of it in the water. It seems that Aboleth is defeated! Maevis/Quintolos: Yay So What about Quint? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I will step out of the cube and attempt to retrieve my arrows if I can reach them Dungeon Master (GM): do you turn off the cube yet or stay inside? GreyWolfVT (Grax): i think we turn off the cube now. RECOVER ARROWS or BOLTS/QUARRELS For Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger WHICH SAVES AS METAL VS. CRUSHING BLOW. AFTER 3 ROUND(S), Coal RECOVERS 2 UNIT(S) OF AMMUNITION. Dungeon Master (GM): it will last for 10 minutes unless you expend another 6 charges ok so you turn it off Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: no reason to keep it. it does move at 30' per round according to D&D Wiki GreyWolfVT (Grax): i thought it did Dungeon Master (GM): ok maevis pulls out the shuriken that struck the creature, you can roll arrow recovery on the other two at say -4 since they may be in the river RECOVER ARROWS or BOLTS/QUARRELS For Grax Ironcloak the Shield Dwarf Fighter / Thief WHICH SAVES AS METAL VS. CRUSHING BLOW. AFTER 2 ROUND(S), Grax RECOVERS 1 UNIT(S) OF AMMUNITION. Maevis/Quintolos: Does Quintolos come back? GreyWolfVT (Grax): i agree what of Quin? Dungeon Master (GM): remember you have Quintolos in the river whom you now see pop his head out of the water, saying, "Guys that thing changed me, I can only breath water, and my skin is all funny now.". Then swims over to the party but stays in the water GreyWolfVT (Grax): bloody hell Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: is his skin all slimy? Dungeon Master (GM): sure is GreyWolfVT (Grax): farewell merfolk Quin.... Maevis/Quintolos: looks like it Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: did the pathway illusion dissapear? or is it still in effect? Dungeon Master (GM): yea, everyone now sees that marked off area as part of the river! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: is Quint's head out of the water? GreyWolfVT (Grax): Quint was turned merfolk on us guess he wont have a problem passing the waterfall now Dungeon Master (GM): Yes, quint’s head is out of the water. I remind you that you know of two other possible ways to get to the city, one is said to be a secret entrance. and you can go back outside and look around some. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: tell him to swim over to the waterfall and check it out Dungeon Master (GM): ok as he does so a few items catches his eyes! GreyWolfVT (Grax): ... Dungeon Master (GM): the items are: one silver brooch (worth 1,000 gp), three disks of jade (worth 500 gp each), and a gold encased incense burner (worth 900 gp). Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I am not in charge of Quint, so I cant tell him to go check out the shiny items GreyWolfVT (Grax): Quint is his own merfolk half-elf so none of us can tell him what to do ;) Dungeon Master (GM): ok so i guess he swims back to the party and shows them what he found, including the 2 other shurikens Xilicien - Magic-User: We could, but that does not mean he would do what we said. GreyWolfVT (Grax): exactly Dungeon Master (GM): so folks, anyone think they have something to help Quintolos? GreyWolfVT (Grax): nope Xilicien - Magic-User: Probably not. GreyWolfVT (Grax): not unless it was a curse and we can remove it then again i would have to look at the scrolls in that haversack Sheila has Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I could try to neutralize poison if it was that did he get bit? or we could try to dispell magic? Dungeon Master (GM): not bit at all it was contact with the aboleth that caused the change as Quintolos would tell you when he was pulled closer to the aboleth’s body the mucous covering it, covered him, causing him to suffocated at first, then breath water, though he was already able to breath underwater due to the cloak, this was a physical change that also affected his skin. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: well I will try to neutralize poison in case that was it. Sheila, praying to Ra, cast a NEUTRALIZE POISON Spell upon, Quintolos - Cleric/MU! Level 4 Cleric * Alteration (Reversible) Components V,S Casting Time 7 segments Range Touch Duration Permanent Area of Effect Creature Touched or 1 cubic foot of substance / 2 levels: 3.5 cubic ft Saving Throw None Effects: The cleric detoxifies any sort of venom in the creature or substance touched. Note that an opponent, such as a poisonous reptile or snake (or even an envenomed weapon of an opponent) unwilling to be so touched requires the cleric to score a successful hit in melee combat. The reversed spell, poison, likewise requires an attack (a “to hit” touch which succeeds), and the victim is allowed a saving throw versus poison. If the latter is unsuccessful, the victim is incapacitated and dies in one turn unless the poison is magically neutralized or slowed.
Xilicien - Magic-User: I suppose we could try dispel magic. I wouldn't recommend staying long enough to suffocate, but perhaps if he gets completely out of the water the effects will be reverse. Dungeon Master (GM): you don't know how long he will be able to breath water physically from the aboleth change, or if it's permanent but again the cloak he wears helps him breath underwater. GreyWolfVT (Grax): I'm a F/T so unless he wants me to backstab him or fight him not much i can do. Dungeon Master (GM): ok the neutralize poison did not seem to have any affect upon Quintolos GreyWolfVT (Grax): only things i can think to try are remove curse or dispel magic other than that it would be maybe a polymorph other spell Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, as he tries to sit out of the water Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: So question:... If I castr dispell magic on a person, does he need to remova all magical items first? or is it contained within his slef? Dungeon Master (GM): (To GM)rolling 7 11 Maevis/Quintolos: Maevis has nothing to help Quintolos has nothing unless Neutralize Poison works Xilicien - Magic-User: I believe magic items are only temporarily suppressed by it, so it shouldn't be too big of a problem, if that's the case. Dungeon Master (GM): ok about 7 minutes later Quintolos begins to not be able to breath, (he is out of the water thus the cloak does not kick in), and noticed his skin was drying up fast so he dunks back into the water. The Neutralize poison has no affect. GreyWolfVT (Grax): ok... still not really helping. at least not on my part. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: well I do know that dispel magic will permanently dispel any potions he is carrying.. if it is cast in a area of effect manner. I am just curious if it is the same as if I cast it on him. Xilicien - Magic-User: If this edition has targeted dispel, I believe it will only affect what you target. Sheila, casts a DISPEL MAGIC Spell upon, Quintolos - Cleric/MU! Level 3 Cleric * Abjuration Components V,S Casting Time 6 Segments Range 60 ft Duration Permanent Area of Effect 30 ft Cube Saving Throw None Effects: When a cleric casts this spell, it neutralizes or negates the magic it comes in contact with. Base Chance of success is 50% + 5% for every level of experience of the caster above that of the creature whose magic is to be dispelled or efficiency level of the magic object. For every level below the creature/object the caster is it is reduced by -2%. Specially enchanted items, such as scrolls, ring, wand, rod, staff, misc item, weapon, shield or armor is rendered non-operational for 2 rounds. Please see spell description for more information. Dungeon Master (GM): ok, i would tend to think it's a magical effect in a ways but the module does not say anything to that effect though it does tell me what it takes to cure him Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: gotcha so no effect Dungeon Master (GM): the mucous itself caused the change, like being exposed to an acid GreyWolfVT (Grax): so Quint is having an acid trip? He can't really breathe water lol Maevis Silverleaf the Half Elf Bard, scrutinizes an item for any Legend, Lore, Item Knowledge, he / she may know! (From Maevis/Quintolos): Percentage chance to know (20%): Rolled: 8 % : Scrutiny of Item: 8 rounds : Determine information gained: 13 Dungeon Master (GM): looks like Quintolos will have to stay in the water but has no idea how long the aboleth induced part of the waterbreathing will last Xilicien - Magic-User: I still have a sealed Kara-Kara bottle (I'm not sure what's in it). GreyWolfVT (Grax): he'll figure it out once he can breathe air again Maevis/Quintolos: trying to figure out how to cure Quintolos Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: well he has the cloak.. maybe he cant really breath water GreyWolfVT (Grax): i mentioned that once the cloak that is Dungeon Master (GM): what was maevis scrutinizing over? oh right the cloak he can stay indefinitely underwater! Xilicien - Magic-User: Is he still wearing the cloak or did it fuse with him? Dungeon Master (GM): not fused to him no just mucky from all the slime Xilicien - Magic-User: What did the slime come from? Dungeon Master (GM): the aboleth itself Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: burn it off! Maevis/Quintolos: Did Maevis get any ideas from his legend lore? Dungeon Master (GM): does quintolos want to try the burning? was he thinking about his skin condition? Xilicien - Magic-User: Perhaps, if he removes his possessions & purges himself of the mucous he will revert to his air breathing self. Maevis/Quintolos: Maevis was trying to figure out to get rid of the slime Xilicien - Magic-User: Including his clothing, because we have to be thorough. Dungeon Master (GM): I am looking in the bard book about the scrutinizing result Maevis/Quintolos: Quint does not want to burn unless no one has any other ideas GreyWolfVT (Grax): Grax has no more ideas other than to pick Balen's pockets maybe he has something that will help Quint after all :) Maevis/Quintolos: Quint can remove everything and cast Fireball on himself GreyWolfVT (Grax): in the water? Maevis/Quintolos: no out of the water GreyWolfVT (Grax): be he can't stay out of the water lol
(From Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): Cassandra THE LEVEL 7 Witch - Wild Magic Witch CASTS WILD MAGIC LEVEL VARIATION 15 WILD SURGE 4592 (From Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila): http://www.traykon.com/pdf/The_Net_Libram_of_Random_Magical_Effects.pdf Maevis/Quintolos: not for very long Dungeon Master (GM): ok i can';t find the chart but the roll indicates he knows something so i will say that Quintolos says, "Hmmm, do you guys have any ways to cure a disease perhaps?" GreyWolfVT (Grax): where's the cleric? oh wait that is you Quint Dungeon Master (GM): was that wild magic actually cast? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I did not get that one today.. maybe we can rest ofr 8 hours Maevis/Quintolos: no just quickly looking over his spells Dungeon Master (GM): I looked no one has a 'cure disease'! GreyWolfVT (Grax): ah yeah and Sheila is the other cleric Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: sorry I was trying to see what spells Cass had and accidentally hit that button unless it will help Dungeon Master (GM): ok Xilicien - Magic-User: Do any of us know what's in the Kara-Kara bottle? *sealed GreyWolfVT (Grax): nope Dungeon Master (GM): hmm Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: the two scrolls I ahve dont have cure disease either Xilicien - Magic-User: Does anyone know Identify? GreyWolfVT (Grax): i don't think any scrolls we have have that Maevis/Quintolos: Quint does I believe Dungeon Master (GM): Roxxi, you can have Quintolos leave the party and perhaps go swimming down the river to look for help or something. Maevis/Quintolos: Quintolos has Identify Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I will pray to Ra to provide me with an additional spell for cure disease. Xilicien - Magic-User: Can Quintolos Identify the substance in this bottle? I think it may be useful. Dungeon Master (GM): really that bottle should have been ID'ed already, i can go check but would need to find where it was found Devin M.: How do I send a thumbs up? Dungeon Master (GM): on here? no idea, no emoticons Maevis/Quintolos: dont think you can here GreyWolfVT (Grax): roll20 doesn't have emojis at least not that i have seen Dungeon Master (GM): looking at previous module's loot list now Maevis/Quintolos: I would look in my Monster Manual hehe but thats no fun Dungeon Master (GM): ok if i remember right, that is a potion of healing it was from the crystal skull room Dungeon Master (GM): 2 bottles were from there that didn't shatter Xilicien - Magic-User: I'm fairly certain it's more recent, though I could be wrong. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: So what did Quint find behind the waterfall? Dungeon Master (GM): i did post what he found! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: oh just the loot Dungeon Master (GM): yea again: one silver brooch (worth 1,000 gp), three disks of jade (worth 500 gp each), and a gold encased incense burner (worth 900 gp). ok so will you guys attempt to fly over the river gap with Cassandra or go look around elsewhere? GreyWolfVT (Grax): burn some incense? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: Without sleeping to pray for new spells, we should go outside and look around for that secret entrance. GreyWolfVT (Grax): .... Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: and Quint can go sleep for 8 hours and remove his own curse tomorrow. GreyWolfVT (Grax): sure Dungeon Master (GM): he'll have to stay in the river. Like i said you can have him go explore downstream it's only been like 4 1/2 hours since you guys got up from last rest Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: yeah, that sounds like a good idea.. go explore downriver and find us that entrance Maevis/Quintolos: May as well go for a swim make himself useful that way Dungeon Master (GM): ok (To Maevis/Quintolos): I think i might have Quintolos come across something you guys were supposed to bump into on the way up here in the first place Maevis/Quintolos: will check along the river banks in case there is any underwater caves (To Maevis/Quintolos): there were some fixed encounters i forgot about that were from I11 you were supposed to bump into but i guess i tried to get you to this module quickly and forgot Dungeon Master (GM): did you see my whispers Roxxi? (From Maevis/Quintolos): Thats cool just hope it wont kill him Dungeon Master (GM): It' should not but i have still do wandering encounter rolls or just make it one so the one encounter should take place oops that was a whisper to Maevis GreyWolfVT (Grax): -_-
no apparently it was a public statement to all of us Dungeon Master (GM): well it is now ok so Quintolos goes and does his own thing what is the rest of the party doing? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: So what you are saying is that the next "Wandering Monster" is really not wandering so to speak.. Xilicien - Magic-User: Waiting. Dungeon Master (GM): heh yea, it was a set encounter but i may add to it for quintolos to have the encounter happen more logically Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: I will go outside and see if I can find any traces of foot traffic that may be leading in a different direction other than to and from this cave, using my ranger tracking Dungeon Master (GM): ok give me an outdoor tracking roll from coal Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger, attempts to do some OUTDOOR TRACKING! Coal's, attempt to Track Outdoors Roll: If a 90 % base chance + / - any modifier or less is rolled it is a Success! The area is heavily overgrown. Lianas, ferns, brilliant orchids, and bright yellow flowers hang down around the entrance. There are many crannies and nooks in the rocks in this area. Rivulets tumble through these, making the ground damp and muddy. Maevis/Quintolos: Back Dungeon Master (GM): any actions from the party aside of admiring the beautiful foliage? Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: seems we found the secret entrance, but I am not liking the look of this large yellow flowering thing Dungeon Master (GM): ok stop right here! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: ok I am headed north did I go to far? Maevis/Quintolos: Any chance The Ranger or maybe Elf can identify the yellow flowery thing? Xilicien - Magic-User: Maybe. Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: Rangers are adept with animals.. not so much plants. Dungeon Master (GM): three zombie-like creatures emerge from behind rocks in the foliage to attack Coal, Cassandra & sheila! GreyWolfVT (Grax): I'm calling it a night on my end i gotta head out here shortly Xilicien - Magic-User: Since when do rangers not know plants! Dungeon Master (GM): Ok Ed Thanks for playing tonight! Shadowfox: Coal & Sheila: Yes, I agree.. can we pick this fight up beginning next week Maevis/Quintolos: ok rollfor init first before you leave set that up WEAPON INITIATIVE ROLL: Coal Blackstone the Human Ranger, gets ready to make an attack move!
