Monday Night Marvel Madness (Marvel Heroic)

Looking for players interested in a short game on Monday Nights, starting at 9PM EST and ending around Midnight (EST), maybe a little later at times. The game will be using the Marvel Heroic RPG, and will involve a series of Events. Players will be able (and sometimes be forced) to choose new characters for each Event, based on the nature of the Event. The game takes place in an alternate version of the Marvel Universe, using the background/timeline found below. I've also included some of the key concepts and conceits of the 313 Universe. The first Event will be a new Avengers sub-team, put together in order to divert a potential war with Atlantis. Most non-mutant characters from the core books are available, though some will require alteration due to differences between the 313 Universe and the Mainstream Marvel U (for example, in the 313 'verse, Tony Stark is just rich playboy in an expensive suit of armor, he's not a technological genius at all). Galactic scale and god(like) characters are also unavailable for this Event. Interested? Hit me up here or email me at tedd.haas@gmail.com. We could get started as early as this week if enough interest manifests! Revised Timeline of the 313 Universe... (Start by forgetting everything you know about the standard Marvel Timeline...) Discounting myths and legends from the ancient world, there are no super-humans extant in the world prior to World War II, and human history proceeds just as it did in the real world. 1933 - (January), Adolph Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany. His allegiance to the Thule Society puts him into contact with other pseudo-occultists, most notoriously Johann Schmidt, Heinrech Zemo, Armin Zola, and Wolfgang Von Strucker. By March, the Nazi party is already pursing agendas chosen by these men, chasing down ancient and supposedly mystic artifacts related to Mu (Atlantis). In return for using Governmental resources on their behalf, they use their influence to get The Enabling Act passed, making Hitler a dictator. 1934 - (June) The Night of Long Knives is used by the Thule Society as a cover to rid themselves of opponents to their long term goals. As a further reward for his continuing compliance, Hitler is given the title of Fuhrer 1936 - Humiliated by German losses in the Berlin Olympics, Hitler demands that his secret cabal provide him with superior humans that he can use as evidence of Aryan dominance. 1938 - The Cabal provides Hitler with a series of disappointing (but still impressive) "uber men", finally resulting in the creation of Master Man, a genuine Nazi Super Soldier with the ability to leap incredible distances, strength enough to lift a tank, and skin that would resist bullets. In September, Hitler unveils Master Man and others to world leaders at Munich, leading them to attempt to appease him rather than stopping his aggression. Nazi aggression is almost unchecked for a time, culminating with Hitler himself touring Paris in June of 1940. Britain attempts to capture or kill Hitler using a British Agent operating under the code name Union Jack. His mission fails, and he is captured and tortured by the Nazis. He escapes before the year is out, and the Nazi experiments coursing through his veins become the basis of the British and American Super Soldier by Shopping Sidekick Plugin">programs . Unfortunately, the original Union Jack dies shortly after returning to Britain. 1941 - All but besieged, Great Britain manages to field a pair of its own "super humans", calling them Union Jack and Captain Britain. Captain Britain, who can fly, remains to defend the homefront, while Union Jack heads to North Africa to work against the Nazis and Italians there. The Soviets also field their own super soldier, codenamed by Shopping Sidekick Plugin">Omega Red, at this time. 1942 - In January, the Germans attempt to launch an invasion of the East Coast of the U.S. The first documented public appearance of the duo known as Captain America and Bucky. The pair help to repel the attack, before being shipped out to North Africa where they are attached to an elite international military unit known as The Howling Commandos, led by fellow American Col. Nick Fury. 1944 - Captain America (with Bucky), Union Jack, and a Canadian soldier known only as Lucky lead the charge on D Day. 1945 - Shortly before the Nazi surrender (in May), all super humans disappear from the worlds battlefields. It's rumored that Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill agreed to some kind of "human weapons ban" at the Yalta conference, but no evidence ever surfaces. Throughout the Cold War, rumors and allegations surface that all sides are using super humans in covert operations, but again, a lack of evidence relegates these to conspiracy theory over time. As the Cold War itself fades from memory, so do the rumors (mostly). 1975 - Rumors begin that the United States has fielded one or more super soldiers in Vietnam. Grainy images of a black-clad warrior carrying a shield similar to the one used by Captain America in World War II appear in papers around the world. Though no real evidence ever comes to light, the images are labeled "USAgent" (following the popular conspiracy theory that suggests that the man in question was a CIA asset). 1981 - The first appearance of The Hulk. Las Vegas all but destroyed. For the next 7 years, the Hulk will ravage various points around the globe, always chased by a specialized military unit known as The Hulkbusters. 1986 - Following the Challenger Disaster, private industry takes over space exploration. Stark Industries, Stane Armories, Von Doom Technologies, and other companies race to have the best spacefaring technology, but VDT ultimately wins the new "space race." Led by Doctor Reed Richards, a young prodigy, a four-man team first experiences "faster than light" travel on December 24, 1986. Their vessel, The Mercury, crashes after their flight. Exposure to "cosmic rays" transforms the four members of the crew, who are thought dead. On December 25, 1986, Mole Man and his giant monsters invade the surface world only to be defeated by the Fantastic Four, the first modern "super heroes." 1990 - The U.S. federal government secretly creates S.H.I.E.L.D. based on Reed Richards predictions that the number of super humans will grow exponentially. Throughout the early 1990's, super humans do grow in number rapidly. Iron Man, Yellowjacket and Wasp, Black Panther, and others debut. 1997 - The U.S. Federal Government unveils "The Patriot", an unknown man in a patriotic costume similar to that worn by Captain America in WWII. They surround The Patriot with a team of heroes consisting of Iron Man, Yellowjacket, The Wasp, and The (now under control) Hulk. They call this team The Avengers. Though the core by Shopping Sidekick Plugin">membership has changed often since, The Avengers have remained the cornerstone of American super human activity. 2000 - A geneticist named Charles Xavier first identifies the so-called "X Gene", a rare mutation that might give a tiny percentage of the population super human capabilities. More importantly, he identified an enormous "boom" in the mutant population in babies born between 1988 and 2000, roughly a quadrupling of the normal percentage. Foreseeing a potentially dangerous backlash, he begins preparations for bringing humans to accept this next step in Evolution, which he dubs "mutants." In part, this consists of creating the Xavier Academy for Gifted Youngsters. Through intermediary agents, he collects young mutants from around the world, bringing them to his burgeoning school, set to open its doors in 2010. Throughout the early 2000's, super human activity reaches an incredible peak, much of it centering around New York City. Dozens of new heroes appear; Spider-Man, Daredevil, The Punisher, Moon Knight, Heroes for Hire, etc. 2010 - The current year. Super human activity has been in a lull for almost two years. Despite a few major flare-ups, things have been relatively quiet. But it might just be the calm before the storm...
I may be interested in this, but the time is a bit weird for me. I get home right when it starts, so on an off day I may be showing up late. On another note, I have no idea how this system is played, but I'm willing to learn. I've always been a big marvel fan and would like to join. Could you give an example of how this system is played? what systems is it similar too?
It uses MWP's Cortex (altered to suit the setting) system, but I can't think of a lot of other systems to which it's similar. It's a narrative system (rather than a more tactical system like D&D 3.5, Pathfinder, or Mutants & Masterminds), and is pretty easy to learn in my experience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-MOS56EEVs Here's an example of play video on youtubue, though frankly I haven't watched it so I probably shouldn't be posting it
interesting. What will I need to do for character creation?
ME ME ME ME. I've been looking for a monday night game for awhile and its superheroes; Im game : )
Markos D. said: interesting. What will I need to do for character creation? We'll be using the pregenerated characters from the books, as per my original post. They have a pretty good array of your "normal" Marvel characters.
So you just need us to show up and play? Sounds like fun.
Im leaning towards Moonknight.
Do they have Moonknight in one of the books? 8)
I'd play alex haden, but I doubt he's in there. He never gets any love.
Yes Wild; I forget which one.
Alex Haden isn't in any of the books that I have (which is all of them except Annhiallation), and at any rate I would rather shoot myself in the repeatedly in the face with a nail gun loaded with rusty nails than have anything to do with Deadpool or his spinoff characters.
Moon Knight is in the Civil War Event Book, by the way.

Was the canadian "lucky" person not good ol' DP when he went back in time? And deadpool is generally fine, as long as you stick to his early works. Anything newer is just an excuse to make pop culture refrences, and bad slap stick gags. And by fine, I mean as a read, I have no idea how he plays out on said RPG.
I'm a passionate opponent of 4th wall violation in works of fiction. Ever since that became Deadpool's entire shtick, I want nothing to do with him.
Oh, and no... "Lucky" is Wolverine. I took the name from an obscure reference in a comic I read a million years ago, wherein he was nicknamed "Lucky" Logan while fighting in World War II.
I just have an afinity for witty (if you could call dp witty) and talkative characters. Maybe its because I was introduced to comics through spiderman, but I generally love that heroic arch type.
I love Spider-Man, but I don't consider DP's banter to be witty (for the most part).
Here's a link to a pretty nice Marvel Heroic "player cheat sheet" http://nerdnyc.com/tmp/marvel/Hero-Cheat-Sheet.pdf
I might another one interested; will know later when she gets off work. We going to try and gather tonight?
Yeah, 3 is plenty for a game 8)
Is this weekly or biweekly?
this on roll20, skype or what?
Chris G. said: Is this weekly or biweekly? Weekly, as often as I can make it 8)

Teddy asked me to play, i probably can play but i might miss a few weeks.
Okay, so no game this week, but I'm hoping to organize and definitely get something going next week. If you're interested, apply as a player and let's get discussing which characters you'd like to play!
I'm interested in joining. I'm a big comic book fan and have played and GM'd Marvel Heroic RPG a few times. I'll decide on a character and let you know. email is stang_999@hotmail.com Skype is Dsierra00 Google+ is Dave Sierra
We'd be glad to have you Dave!
Well, I like Iron Man. But what's this nonsense about him not being a genius? Who created his armor, then?
Wasnt his dad in the robotic field?
Dave said: Well, I like Iron Man. But what's this nonsense about him not being a genius? Who created his armor, then? That would be his company, and primarily James Rhodes working from technology created by his Father.
I love comics! I love established characters! I love the Avengers! I love RPGs! I love roll 20! Here is a list of choices: Jocasta, She Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Vision, Yellow Jacket. I'm in for Monday Nights!
... so I'm confused, did I just see someone other than myself admit to liking Hank Pym? Anyway, as far as I know, there is no datafile for Jocosta. I'm fairly certain that She-Hulk has one. Ms. Marvel has one in the core book (as Warbird, I believe). Scarlet Witch is a mutant and therefore wouldn't be available for this game. Wonder Man and Yellow Jacket are both in the Civil War Event Book (though it should be noted that with the timeframe of this particular setting, Hank Pym is into his 50's at this point.) The "new/young" Vision is in the Young Avengers/Runaways Guide, but the datafile could be easily tweaked to represent the original Vision if that's what you're looking for.
