What can you expect out there in the waste? Well the old ones said it had happened near two lifetimes ago, great war machines roamed the world that was, fighting over the rich soil on which all manor of greenery grew... but them war machines got too big, their cannons blew up more and more 'till there was nothin' left to blow up. That's when they got desperate, tryin' to keep what little they had... so they dropped the bombs, but there were too many bombs... WAY too many bombs. Now I wasn't around back then, so I don't rightly know how them folks survived... hell from what the old ones tell, a great deal didn't... But some did, and them folks... well we're born of them few who survived. I'm tellin you like the old ones told me... the world ain't the same as it was no more. Those bombs did somethin' more than blow up... they tore a hole... right down to hell itself... and them devils were linin' up to get here! You've heard the tales... howls comin' from the wastes, travelers bein' torn apart by things that ain't from this world... Men and women with demonic powers breakin all manor of nature's laws... but that ain't the worst of it... man is still his own worst enemy... 'specially when he ain't got enough food, fuel and power... and them things we can never get enough of, so we got gangs choppin themselves up replacing parts with metal and gears and whatnot gettin' ready to take what you got, also we got them who got their hands on some old world war machines, and you do not wanna see what them things can do, but they are eager to show you! Anyways... I've been prattling on too long now... So what can you expect from the wastes? Hell... Hell, is what you can expect. The old ones say the world done seen doomsday, that the end has come and gone and we few who are still around... well we're just too stubborn to die, an echo of the dead and buried... so brother, once you're out there, whatever reason you got to keep breathin in that last gasp of air left in the world... you hold on to that shit, cuz once it's gone... it ain't ever comin' back. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A little about me as a GM and the campaign: This will be a sandbox post apocalyptic setting run in GURPS, with a little bit of everything thrown into the mix. There will be magic, there will be cybertech, there will be mutants with supernatural abilities and there will be creatures that make the toughest men shit themselves... Giving the world (despite it's unusual and cinematic nature) a sense of realism and establishing immersion will be important as RP will most certainly be the main focus of this campaign... how much combat you see depends entirely on how you decide to go about things... however, the world will be a dangerous and violent place... As a GM i'm a simulationist, I want you to feel like the world is a real and believable place so that you can more easily roleplay believable and real characters... it won't be entirely humorless (we're here to have fun after all) but there won't be anything cartoony or overly silly... essentially I don't want you to think "why did the GM send us on this quest?" or "Why is the GM balancing the encounters like this" I want you to think "Why did that NPC send us on this quest"... "Is it really a good idea to fight a bunch of guys with guns when all i have is this here sharpened toothbrush? maybe I should run and hide..." Also death will be a very real possibility and I will be fair but utterly merciless about it... I will make certain you had a way to avoid it (I won't just have a trap you had no way of knowing was there kill you, or have a sniper take you out without you ever seeing him)... but if you knowingly run into a minefield rather than get captured or decide to try and disarm the guy who is holding you at gunpoint and fail... there will be no last second rescue from some random NPC or an uncharacteristic show of mercy from the guy you just attacked... The risk of death being a very real thing I don't expect you to just accept any "quest" or job someone cares to offer you... I don't expect you to save every damsel in distress... I expect you to have your own motivations and a fair degree of self interest and a sense of self preservation... without necessarily being "bad guys"... it's a harsh world... and if you come into it expecting to play the heroes who save everyone and the world you will undoubtedly be disillusioned, taken advantage of, killed and ultimately disappointed... likewise if you intend to play the utterly selfish dudes who don't care about anyone or thing but themselves... you will find that it's not easy making it on your own when no one is watching your back... and even if you survive the world and carve out a place for yourself... it'll be a hollow and lonely existence... and won't feel like a victory. I encourage you (for both of our sakes) to make certain that this is the kind of game you would enjoy playing. If you have any concerns that I did not address please ask questions and be honest and direct about what you want from a game so that we can better determine if this is a good fit. Oh and there will likely be sex, violence, rape, torture, cannibalism and other such themes inappropriate for younger players, which can and probably will get graphic, that is not to say that these things will be the focus or even focused on in the game, but may very well occur given the setting... so I'm gonna ask that everyone be 18+ years of age. If you have questions or concerns... please voice them here.
