While the more magical races tend themselves in secret societies or blend into human communal ranges in disguise. With so many language barriers there is no telling what someone speaks anymore. Men fight over simple things feuds made from long ago that nobody remembers and coaster raiders enslave and kidnap children at night. The world is a dark and terrifying place indeed. Do you wish to Claim everything as your own. Or be Guided By the light which you so desperately seek. Welcome my children to the Imperium. Starting Area Sudbury is a Very Clad together Town with ice and wood and bits of rock. Built alongside the mountains with caves as natural defenses against anyone that may cause to many frequent problems. This town has many ancient histories and even many families that will be gone over. You as a player live in this town and you tend to know of it's dark and groggy nature. Its ratchet walls made of cobble and wood and foggy ice fields were the summer farms be. Thus a very Snowy Mythical feeling can be felt year round. Even during the Summer thawing snow is always to be seen. As you have lived here away you have learned Sudbury itself has a tormented economy, which is mainly supported by mining, hunting and raiding for slave trade. Thus Causing somewhat frequent problems. Though they do have their great strengths in mercenary contracts and fletching techniques. Raiding is a common practice into making a man out of a boy. You go on raids to bring in resources to the town. Whether it be slaves for workforce or shiny gold trinkets from the east. Though the people that live here are harsh and tough laws are firm and primal. Thus leading to a lack of many skills like engineering and other things. You already feel it in your skin ever since you were born. Sudbury is cursed with corruption like the rest of the world but you and your people do not fight the corruption you tend to ignore it. Thus making people tend to be more violent you tend not to wander streets at night thus leading to a unnessasery murder. As You know there will be a massive blacksmithing group in Sudbury. These be the great families of Riverstone, Blackheart and Silverwater. As their main exports of Coal, iron and silver your town needs for weapons of raids and the heat of the long winters of cold. But you always hear whispers of how the families that are related by a long ago blood relative having feuds against each other for wanting to expand their own goals. Family Grudges going deep as the mountain stone. Riverstone founding a quarry without letting the blackhearts know and stealing funding from the silverwater family to do so has struck an ever increasing distrust. Not only that but the Blackhearts trying to remain loyal to the mines but having corrupt family members who tend to leave a wake of bastards and slaves. And the Family of Silverwater for trying to break ties with the family and run a slave brothel. With this the families tend to be always going at it. You already know the earl is planning for a new raid for the upcoming defrost of the winter looking to make ransoms for new slaves and to slowly start gathering men for a new raiding target for the summer. The flow of this always means good profit to you or your companions so it might be a good choice to go down this route if you were brave enough. Seemingly though the new found lands to the east have come full of gold and relics full of magic and wonders. But will you take the chance of those same relics and wonders slowly increasing your corruption. As you know there is the greats shamans of your town and then the mystics of the temple of the gods that do great magics in the name of our people. But there seems to be a few new people in the town lurking in the shadows. Who knows you might even be one of these Magical folks lurking in the shadows and you have been keeping face all along. You know for a fact on the outskirts of the main town of where you are is a large communal of huts that stick to the frozen lakes and ponds scrapping and trying to feed slaves and bastards living in bleak meaningless conditions. May they be outlaws or even slaves. Having to stick to the frozen lakes to fish for food or just trying to be used in the next local hunt these people are tough. As to where you are now you are currently staying in SnowBill Tavern, A seemly nice place for Warriors and adventures to settle down for the night. Though you do notice that the earls men tend to live in the same tavern for the walls. You have heard strange rumors of there being an active brothel in the basement? or was it a slave market who knows. But you are always willing to find out are you not! Then you know as every man and women knows to the north deep and high into the mountains along the eighty Thousand steps, Lays the Temple of the Gods. Were are shamans and mystics meet to worship and relay our gods wishes. You know for a fact whenever a boy reaches the age of 15 he must climb the stairs and give an offering to the gods to reach adulthood then be ready for his first raid in that summer. Once a man reaches the top and gives his offering its gives that man the birthright of taking a wife and having children. Though you keep hearing rumors of how the gods are starting to share their powers. Who knows you could be the next mystic of the temple! But As of now you know many warriors taking the steps to offer there blessings in future raids. But What of you and your companions. What does the temple mean to you. Does the fact that on the side of the temple there is an orphanage deep within the mountains or does the fact you have to be branded with runes as a child as an orphan scare you? Who knows in this dark time. Myths are born from the Northern Gate, A hostile and dangerous place within the deep hellish landscape of snow and ice. Treacherous and vile full of snow demons and monsters of untold origins. Those that you know of that have had to traverse this snow wasteland tend to never be seen again. But you do know deep within this area lays ruins of a long forgotten city deep within the snow. Longing to be found full of mystical relics and more. But could you even manage to go up there as the blizzards are harsh and the magical energies get harsher and harsher the further north you go. This is a place of nightmares used to scare children at night are you brave enough to go here. Deep to the south were the mountains start to open lays the Southern Gate, And the Hovel of trade. This is a space of commerce and travel where people leave for the snowy deserts to trade with the empire. Star the snow desert lies beyond for hundreds of miles. The travelers going through these parts are party of large convoys that are stocked full of furs and other trading materials for the long winters ahead. This is also a great way to transport slaves to the rest of the empire. Are you and your party wanting to leave the snowy lands to traverse the rest of your empire. In the East There lies the great wall. The wall that cover the sea mountains tall. You know this to be a brick at keeping the demons at bay and the chaos of the sea in hand. You know this to be true threw a great many military outposts can be seen along the walls from the sea. The sea connects thru ice patches to the great Forlum keep locking and intervening into it. You know this to be true. As the walls reach deep clear to the west where the Forlum keep stands. Deep within the mountains west of the town is where Forlums keep Stands holding strong against any army that wish to attack it. The Sturdiness of its defense is where military might and prowess of your people hold strong. The Massive war docks here lead to the yearly defrost to compel raiding groups and massive war fleets to the tide of the earl. Then you know for a fact deep within an abandoned ore mine a Labyrinth of caves and exploration await you as the earl has locked up the place only to hired mercenaries. It seems things have held up in there that are not for mortal mans hands. Do you and your party go to these deep abandoned caves and travel the lost world underneath. But What of you, Who are you, What are you. What does this place mean to you. It's up to you to decide and venture out and find new lands. New Lores. Interesting facts and hidden puzzles. Come Enjoy Imperium. I am Still needing players pretty badly so if you want to join i would love to have you In this Dark Fantasy Full of many Cultures and more. So I've noticed People love to look at my post but are scared to really join it. I am not saying you can not play as your wonderful favorite race, I am not saying you have to be up and greedy All I ask is you stick to roleplay and be respectful. This game is just very roleplay heavy meaning simple actions you do will be taken into effect. I Would love to have more players and to let them know I am a very kind and understanding DM. I will even take my time to pull you aside and talk to you for an hour if that is needed to help tell you about lore or even to just help you get your bearings. I tend to like to make my games enjoyable for everyone. If that means you need help with making a backstory or anything i am willing to help you through that process. Everyone should be given a chance. Apparently not a lot of people understand the setting of this campaign so i will explain in a little more detail in this post. You as a player are someone ether born and raised in a Viking era town of Sudbury, THAT Or you are someone who has just come to live here from traveling or you were possibly brought here threw slavery. Magic is still allowed in this game there is no magic shunning by all means play as a wizard I don't care. Just understand that this is the midevil times were people are not too fond of magic. Pretty much think Medieval times when if you used magic you were labeled as a witch. Now with the vikings they did have there mystics and shamans but there everyday man still didn't use magic. So if you really wanna play someone with magic. All you have to do is come up with some fun backstory as to why the vikings didn't kill you or label you as demonically possessed. And if you need help writing this backstory I can easily help you i have the time to set aside for my players. Come and join There is a new world to explore. Victor is my dad . Thank you for setting up these games. I hope I do you proud! Don't kill your son, thanks. - Nogs
So far the DM has shown nothing but support for all of the players involved within his campaign setting. Helping them with the lore for their backstory, helping them make their character so it could fit in, while also helping them change their character's slightly to maybe feel like a different person than the next Viking. Overall he's the kind of DM you want if you're looking for heavy roleplay in a dark and gritty world.
Vic has been a great GM for us so far during the prep phase. He's written a staggering amount of lore for this world, and has helped everyone with their characters to make sure they can get them in, even if it requires a lot of background tweaking to fit said world. He has also been very welcoming to my two friends that I invited with zero roleplaying experience, for which I am grateful. Vic was recently going through hard times and still stuck with us, even when we all told him he could take all the time he wanted. To put it simply, he's been great to us, and I'm sure he'd be great to and for you too.
This is an intensely interesting read! I submitted an app (minus a character concept because I prefer to build to suit a party, rather than just make something and try to shoehorn it in). I'm really hoping I hear back, this looks amazing. :)
We're looking for players for the Tuesday campaign, which most players will be active starting between 1PM to 3PM EST. So, if you're a player that can handle that timezone, or you're a European that can be available between 7PM to 9PM GMT+1.
