Noob needs character sheet help

I am pretty new to Roll20 and need some help.  In order to experiment I created a game.  I then created a character and now have a character sheet.  If I search the compendium for let' say a warhammer, it will show and I can easily drop it into the sheet. However If I am looking to add a spell I click classes >  cleric and then I get a pop out showing me spells by name and level.  I cannot drop any of the spells into the sheet.  Must I research the spells that I want and then search them individually so that I might drop them into the sheet? I did search and did not find anything relevant.  I am sure this is just noobie confusion.

Which specific DnD5E sheet are you using? is "DnD5E by Roll20", the "Shaped" sheet, or the "Community Contributed"-sheet? If you can't figure out which sheet you're using, share us a screenshot on how it looks. If you're using the sheet made by Roll20, this should work.

Ok, for that sheet you do need to research the spells and drag the spells individually unless you are using the charactermancer. If you are using the charactermancer it will list the spells available to you and and you can pick the ones you like. Iirc which spells have full descriptions is based on what the game has access to. So if your GM has the PHB you should see all those spells and descriptions, same with xanathar's, if the GM doesn't have those you'll see the big spell list but only be able to see full descriptions for the spells in the SRD (the free ones).
