I've not been able to fix it since, and it's infuriating me.

Things to check: You are using Chrome or Firefox You do not have a zoom active on the page (it's at 100%) You do not have a third party extension that might be interfering (particularly Stylus/Stylish) Go into the settings tab and turning ON "Enable chat avatars"
